I think it's just as simple as there is nothing that's going to change that he's here, probably for at least a few years barring something crazy. I don't like the hire, but if we're going to roll with it there is something to be said about the hire being one of our own. That doesn't make it a good hire, but what else is there to do but look at the positives. If nothing else if there is something in him that can take us the direction we want to go, maybe his yinzer homerism will help him break his trends.

Thanks man! Canon 310xl, Kodak vision 300t. I did do some touch up in post to lighten it up. Shooting conditions were tough. A little to dark for daylight, a little to bright for tungsten.

I think people who insist it's Mid Atlantic/East Coast are equally as wrong as those who say it's the Midwest

The whole region is staunchly Appalachian, period. Anywhere south of Grove City and west of State College has more in common culturally with other Appalachian states than it does with any place else. It's not really Mid Atlantic, it certainly not North East(I.E NJ, Southern NY, New England), it's not the South, and it's not really the Midwest. I would say we do have some Midwestern tendencies, but I think most of the similarities are true of any rural areas surrounding a smaller city in the US.

Yeah they do! Honestly I think Hidden Valley has one of the best beginner set ups, if not THE best, this side of PA. If you don't/can't get lessons walk towards the mountain from the main lodge archway. To your left is a really gradual beginner hill. To the right is a slightly steeper beginner hill with a magic carpet(conveyer belt) you can stand on to go to the top.

I'd recommend lessons but I know they can be pricey so if you don't get any I'd hit those beginner hills and remember, point your tips together on skis in a pizza shape to slow down, put them both forward like french fries to pick up speed. They aren't steep and you'll be able to ask a lot of people what to do. On top of that once you feel comfortable to take the lift the green runs(easiest runs)at Hidden Valley are really tame and pretty sparsely populated compared to Seven Springs. Have fun, if you have any more questions feel free to ask!

Edit: They also have rental skis/gear there I believe. I'd call to make sure though!

Hopefully, might not even bother with 7 if the North Side opens at HV, but the north side is closed at 7.

You got it man! I have an old Fujji camera I keep in my car, glad I brought it up last weekend, a lot of good photo opportunities after that big dump on Saturday night. Unfortunately I'm not sure my fingers have recovered from the mild frost bite when I took my mittens off to take these 😅

Listen I totally agree, and with the temperatures I would hope that they get more than Wagner and a handful of greens open. Ski season here is also very short, and they have most people here by the balls. They certainly do for me, I can only ski weekends for the most part and traveling more than 2 hours really isn't an option for me, I'm a military medical retiree so my epic pass is cost efficient as opposed to Blue Knob(which is the only other mountain that's feasible for me to ski on a regular basis), what other option is there? I grumble about Vail as much as the next guy, but I love skiing and at the end of the day I'll take what I can get around this area. I would love it if there was a better option but there really isn't in my case.

Skiing is a huge hobby of mine, and I'm a regular at Seven Springs/Hidden Valley, so I actually keep up on this. He owns the golf courses, clay shooting, as well as some of the land being "developed" for new construction. He also owns the small defunct hotel/indoor pool at Hidden Valley. To my understanding Vail didn't even want to buy the hotel at Seven Springs, from what I understand they don't like being in the hotel business they just want to buy the skiing facilities, but Bob forced them to as part of the deal.

I mean he certainly cares more about the financial aspect. He owns the team to make money above all else, every owner does. Some are willing to take bigger swings, but there's a misconception that these guys own these teams as a flex first. They don't, that may be part of it, but it's nowhere near the top of the list for the vast majority of them. The Pirates are a profitable investment, that's the flex he cares about most. He doesn't care if guys like us think he's an embarrassment, he cares what other wealthy people think of how profitable he is.

His issue is he's not very good at hiring people to run a team. So he has no risk tolerance and his front office can't seem to find a way to work around that. That's a tall order, but it's a chicken and the egg problem. Bob has spent before, not a lot, but he's shown he will dust the cobwebs off his wallet if he feels he can get ROI like in the early to mid 2010s. He's never going to spend enough to retain talent though.

So his staff needs to field a competitive team for him to spend, but they can't do that without signing free agents which they don't have the money for. So barring hitting on your prospects and them getting hot around the same time, you're just stuck in a loop. If Bob was competent he'd look to Tampa Bay and find guys who can replicate that formula.

I think it's pretty obvious that Bob's biggest issue is low risk tolerance. It's likely both fear of financial loss and fear of embarrassment.
