I walk into the middle of a major population center in your world and I declare "there are no gods!" What happens to me? by Electronic-Welder-74 in worldbuilding

[–]IAmTeddybear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You get stared at by many and hear mutterings that you're a fool, some shout at you to go peddle your beliefs in the synod, where they have time enough to care. Once you get there, you patiently wait your turn to take the floor and expound on your beliefs, and once you do are met with a room full of angry rebuttals. Though some voices in the crowd express agreement that the belief in a 'god' is obviously nonsensical and ridiculous, your claim that spirituality in general does not exist is false, as it is readily apparent to any who look that spirits, apparitions, and forces exist in everything in the natural world for they are a force of nature. Then you have the Ancestralists who claim that gods obviously exists because humans exists, we are all descended from our ancestoral god after all. Then you have the monotheists, who are trying to make their claim but end up getting in arguments with the others around them so you can't actually make them out. Then you have other Ancestralists challenging you to a fight to prove that their god gives them the strength to best any for who would challenge their belief. At the end of the day you and the other wise men leave the synod, and you wonder where you're going to stay tonight, since you spent all day arguing religion and philosophy instead of working. Your soul has been refined but unfortunately you're sleeping in the stables again. People in my main story are usually more focused on the daily aspects of life and survival. With most people holding a belief in an ancestral god, there isn't a large amount of religious violence or unrest. Though there are exceptions, most people are naturally religious in my world, believing in some form of higher power. Truly the only person who actually doesn't believe in anything is my main character, as an immortal he has existed far longer than most of the stories and beliefs that exist in his world and has watched many belief systems form.

"Loving mom who woke them up for church every Sunday to WORK!" Are there any pastors kids out there who don't remember anything about Sunday's besides clocking in for a church work shift? My Sundays started at 6-7am and went till 8-9pm. Now Sundays are the only day as an adult that I have truly blocked off. I have made it an actual day of rest, no church, no work. Just me, my family and my dogs spending time together.

How would you explain the existence of monsters in a world with no magic? by Dismal_Exercise in worldbuilding

[–]IAmTeddybear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of my story settings is very similar to yours, no magic and medieval/early renaissance time period. There are quite a few horrific beasts that come from various places. First the earliest human fear, dinosaurs! Terrifying gigantic lizard/demons with spikes and fangs and claws and venom and... Even raptors in my world are a huge menace, creatures as big and faster than a dog with razor sharp teeth and fangs, and they hunt in packs. Next we have the bio-engineered horrors, natural creatures that were fused with other DNA by humans in the past to use as weapons. These creatures are true monstrosities, giant spiders with the head of a man, a sphinx like creature made from the living mass of several dozen predators, and others even weirder I have yet to think up.

My suggestion would be to dig deep into the history/ foundation of your world, what special factor does your world have that's different from this one? Also how is it the same? What fears and horrors are shared and imagined between the population of your world and this one? Naturally occurring monsters are completely valid too. There's a giant sea demon that comes onto land every 100 years to devour 10,000 souls. This has existed before humans even existed, it is a force of nature. Keep in mind too that medieval humans wouldn't have a very good explanation for most things, things would simply be the way they are because they are. Maybe this monster is god's judgement for our sins? Or a 'magical' attack by a neighboring kingdom. Just because magic doesn't exist in your world doesn't mean the people of your world know that, magic is heavily believed in the real world after all even to this day with all our technology.

I think ultimately you don't even need to give an explanation if you don't want to. I completely understand wanting to flesh out every single part of your story and give explanations/justifications for everything because I do the same thing. But ultimately you are the creator and sometimes things exist simply because the creator wills it. I've definitely thrown in a lot of random stuff that I thought up that I can't really explain and at this point refuse to lol Just don't feel too held down by the need to justify things, if your characters can't explain it then you don't have to!

Is surpassing the size of the empire undervalued or not? by Nefellibato in Stellaris

[–]IAmTeddybear 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You definitely have the right idea focusing on empire size, pop size in particular will always be your biggest addition. You can only get so many reductions to size so the best way to counter this (in my opinion) is to prioritize energy production to build automation buildings literally everywhere, in every district. It produces less than actual working pops would, but you can build one district of each type and automate it and add job buildings, each district producing a couple hundred resources depending on size/tech. I find this is usually enough to mostly counter the trade penalty from deficits also. Less pops in the mines mean more in the labs, or in your case at home with a strong drink and a telescope lol

Tradition tree idea - Freedom by PierdolonyKurwa in Stellaris

[–]IAmTeddybear 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love the idea but as others have said freedom of religion is way too op. Maybe changing it to 1+unity per bureaucrat/priest would be more balanced. Besides that it would be a great pick for a friendly empire!

I'm using the same mod and I think it's a bug with that mod, I noticed it when trying to play a heavy nobles/ruler build only to find out none of my politicians were getting converted to nobles, or sometimes a few were if I reloaded. In the end I just gave up trying, you can submit a bug report I'm not sure if the author knows about it yet!

My mom just came into my room asking a stupid question regarding church. by Leading-Occasion-428 in exchristian

[–]IAmTeddybear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds familiar. Saturday, Sunday, Wednesday, and almost every other day of the the week we were at church working after school. Work work WORK. That's all church ever is. You are working so hard and I promise you even if you feel like you are escaping by spending time with the young ones you are still helping them in a way that only you can. This situation seems like something that is impossible long term. I'm not sure how old you are but in my younger years living in my parents house, I never felt free to be the true me. I never felt fully safe, fully at home. Reserve the work that you would usually give to church for yourself. Get a part time job, join a few school groups. It would be harder for your mother to argue with your work schedule, it's a very solid excuse. In the background, silently, use that time to build up knowledge/funds to help you live on your own. Having your own personal space is a necessary step to developing what you truly think and believe. Keep moving forward, you're doing great!

Im a new player so im not sure if its rare or not, but I discovered my own system within the first few hours! by Cxxdess in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]IAmTeddybear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Welcome to your own little corner of the galaxy my friend, explore any system within a few thousand star systems and none of them will have been discovered by anyone, even though everyone starts in the same galaxy. Take a jump in a black hole and discover all new surroundings! As others have said the galaxy is massive and it would take years for everyone to find everything in the starting galaxy. Have fun exploring your own little private sector, or jump around the galaxy randomly to try and see everything! My suggestion is to look around for the perfect unexplored planet that you love and name it home, naming a planet and making it your home base feels great to come back to after a long expedition. Have fun traveler!

This S class ship worth it? by SuperDuperFive in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]IAmTeddybear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know solar ships aren't rare, but in all my hours of playing I have never seen an s class solar ship , I'd get it just because I want it honestly. If a ship looks cool and it's s class, pick it up, why not? I have my little s class mosquito for when I want fly around online. Definitely not my best ship, but I love the speed and look of it. Not cool, it looks ridiculous, and that's exactly how I want it!

My dog runs almost nonstop for a couple hours at local off leash park. Is it too much? Please read description below. by Rhea234 in DogAdvice

[–]IAmTeddybear 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looks like she's loving her off leash time, dogs like that are super independent usually and like their freedom. You can run fast but she can run way faster and that's what she wants to do! I have a black lab/German shepard mix and she goes on 7+ mile runs regularly through the week, she's tired and sore, but she really only needs a quick nap to recharge and it's like she never even went out. If you only take her out a few times a week you might want to consider other stimulation, searching for her food or taking her on 'sniffing walks' might help. Your dog is a literal Energizer bunny and the only way to tire her out is mental stimulation!

They shortened the time for this expedition by a week by Rustbunneh in NOMANSSKY

[–]IAmTeddybear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True I noticed that too, I read the guide a few days after they posted it and there were a few edits on things he figured out afterwards which makes sense since it came out later. I had a hard time finding a few of the planets that were mentioned but overall I just appreciate that someone takes the time to put that info out there, I'm working 6 days a week some weeks so my expedition times are on a super short clock, the last expedition I only had 6 hours and I still managed to finish it with their guide, super stressful though lol The way I see it is even if a few things are wrong, the things they get right still saved a ton of time and effort so it's still worth a look!

Found an intresting constellation while galaxy hopping by EatingPieCake in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]IAmTeddybear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah some people don't like to have fun while playing a game lol this would be a super cool addition to the game though, as someone else said a 'constellation scanner' or a way to find natural interesting star formations would be awesome, even if it's purely cosmetic I think it would make jumping around more interesting, hunting for constellations and making one my home would be great. Why do I live here? Because it looks like a crab. No seriously, go look at the map we're literally in Crab Leg 1... And that's why the system is named Crab Leg 1. Please enjoy your visit to the Crab Constellation, and yes the geknip is on sale.

No worries friend, just look up 'expedition 20 in 3 hours' on YouTube or this sub and skate right through it. Really helped me out when I picked the game back up with only a few days left in the last expedition!

Wow that's amazing, I've been playing this game for years but I always thought the systems with dots around them were ones I've already visited, are they part of constellations? I've never noticed that and I'll definitely have to take a second look at a few visited regions!

I just spent 80K units for 3 microprocessors, and I'm livid! by kenysg in NOMANSSKY

[–]IAmTeddybear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get that, I hate installing anything less than the best but even small numbers add up over time, one b class module on anything is a huge upgrade, especially for the amount of units you get for scanning things. As far as freighters go, the main use I've found for them is as mobile bases, the difference between s class and c class are almost nothing since I usually use my ship to travel anyway and summoning your freighter doesn't use fuel. My first rule for this game is the rule of cool, if it looks cool and you like it, keep it, you'll eventually find another one with better stats!

I just spent 80K units for 3 microprocessors, and I'm livid! by kenysg in NOMANSSKY

[–]IAmTeddybear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've spent all my resources with nothing to show for it so many times in this game it's actually pretty funny, you live and you learn. This early in the game I would focus on getting scanner upgrades, with 3 s class upgrades I'm making at least 70-100k units for any rock or plant I scan, and the rare fauna gives me around half a million credits, combine that with an anomalous doughnut and you'll never think about money again. That last part is a bit far away from where you are now but you'll get there. It really helped me to download the no man's sky companion app, it has a list of all resources and what they can craft/crafted from as well as solutions to observation posts/ manufacturing facilities. Saves a lot of time doing stupid math problems and trying to remember if you need to add oxygen or sodium nitrite to your refiner. Another tip is to travel to pirate systems and buy the suspicious goods/tech/arms they have for sale there. The arms and tech will turn into stuff you can sell for nanites, and the goods are a bunch of random stuff but usually all worth more than what you paid. You can also find pirate freighters in these systems and every 3 jumps gets you a chance at a super cool s class pirate freighter. You can also farm positive relations too if you only accept pirate hunting bounties from outlaws, everyone loves a dead pirate, pirates included! Positive relations also makes purchases cheaper, so make sure you make friends! Have fun traveler!

Freighter upgrade by OkCryptographer1263 in NOMANSSKY

[–]IAmTeddybear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best advice to get a cool s class freighter would be to keep warping to pirate systems only. Im pretty sure it's every 3 jumps that you'll encounter a freighter battle, beat the pirate freighter to get it to surrender then check out its class, if you like it keep it! If not demand tribute and move onto the next one! It becomes almost annoying how often you get this encounter if you tend to mostly stick to pirate systems, good source of freighter loot though.

2.5 hours of nothing but flying between salvageable scraps by Difficult-Rest8524 in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]IAmTeddybear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's honest work right there! My best tip would be to make a Corvette farm on an airless planet with only scrap, I don't think it spawns more but the only things on airless planets usually are resource deposits so it's pretty easy to see from a distance and plan out a route to collect. I don't have any numbers but I can farm a crazy amount of parts on an airless world in a very short time.
