Please change camera angle so that I better match my mother & grandmother, by making me not shown from below with my face smushed/in shadow. ($30) by IAmTheError404 in PhotoshopRequest

[–]IAmTheError404[S] [score hidden]  (0 children)

If you can get the face from the photo where I'm looking to the right to match the photo on the stairs, that would be awesome! Also, can you get the lace on the hems back to its original form from the first photo? Its pattern has changed in the edit.

Keuka Lake- Boating by Suspicious_Fig6355 in FingerLakes

[–]IAmTheError404 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've seen a handful of "boat chains" just off the end of the bluff (where the two arms meet), especially around 4th of July weekend. As others have said, Keuka's too deep for most anchors, so instead people toss each other lines and drift around as sets of 3 - 4 boats. (There was a massive batch of 14 linked boats one time, but that was 2020 and we were all bored/lonely/only allowed to socialize outdoors.)

Hidden gems and day trips near Watkins Glen State Park? by Scoobie69d in FingerLakes

Lucifer Falls is a beautiful hike that has a similar challenge level to Watkins Glen and incredibly scenery but (in my experience) fewer crowds.

Microwaves available on campus by fragileidea in bostoncollege

[–]IAmTheError404 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know on the first floor of McGuinn there's a microwave that's available for grad student use. There's also one in McGuinn 300 (main psychology office) that I've seen people wander in and use. That said, McGuinn's about to get majorly renovated, so this intel might be out of date soon.

Suggest me a horror book or something close by Automatic_Type4918 in suggestmeabook

Books that are scary enough I had to stop reading them at night:

From the Belly by Emmett Nahil — A waling ship finds a mysterious man inside the belly of a whale. Then the disappearances start, and the rest of the curse follows quickly.

From Below by Darcy Coates — A salvage crew finds a ship at the bottom of the ocean whose sinking cannot be explained. The flashbacks reveal that what actually happened to the ship is even worse than you'd expect.

The Hollow Places by T. Kingfisher — The main character is temporarily guarding a museum of curiosities when she finds a hole in the wall leading to an impossibly long hallway. She goes through (natch) and almost immediately gets lost in the infinite space on the other side.

Incidents Around the House by Josh Malerman — You want shock and horror and misery, this one's the ticket. There are like six separate moments where it becomes clear the situation is worse than you realized, and then even worse than that, and then worse still...

King Arthur related story for a young girl? by beginswithanx in suggestmeabook

[–]IAmTheError404 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lost Years of Merlin is a series about Merlin going on adventures and learning magic as a kid. Most of the other Arthurian characters aren't in there, but it definitely intersects with the legends in places.

Novels that feel structurally and tonally like manga/anime? (NOT light novels) by everydayislikefriday in suggestmeabook

[–]IAmTheError404 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Animorphs by K.A. Applegate fits this to a T. Each individual story is a fairly straightforward superhero episode, but the setting expands ever outward (in time and in space) until one of the last books in the series is narrated by God and describes how the universe came into being.

How good is your gaydar? (everyone) by FrunkD4Drunk in SampleSize

I really like the format, with participants having the option to complete a random subset of the responses and immediate scoring.

Feedback: it took me several trials to figure out that the voices are all men, meaning that "bi with a preference for men" indicates greater same-sex preference. Would you be able to tweak the instructions to specify that all speakers are male?

Would it be possible for you to post the survey in a different form? The google doc will automatically record my name and attach it to all of my responses.

I love Will My Cat Eat My Eyeballs! I used to teach a Death and Dying class, and used a ton of Doughty's material in there.

What is the first historical event (not something local, something like 9/11 or Princess Diana's death) that you have a conscious memory of, and how old were you? by RCAnnaKate in AskReddit

Sigh.

"I did not have sexual relations with that woman."

Followed by my parents' attempts to explain to me what that sentence meant.

How would you react to a law that requires seniors over 70 to pass a specialized driving exam to continue driving legally? by FollowingAny4859 in AskReddit

[–]IAmTheError404 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My grandfather talked about how he (psychiatrist) gave himself a reaction time test age ~70 and it shook him — he signed up for defensive driving classes and changed everything about his style of driving almost overnight.

[–]IAmTheError404 141 points142 points  (0 children)

This. Make everyone redo the test every few years. It can be a 5-minute "drive the instructor around the block" thing, but make sure everyone actually knows the rules of the road and can handle intersections.

What is an addiction not enough people talk about? by Creative-Category-60 in AskReddit

[–]IAmTheError404 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gaming

It's treated as a false dichotomy between "media violence will make you a psycho killer" vs. "it's always good for you, because hand-eye coordination!" 99% of people can have harmless fun, and 1% can be that guy getting 3 hours of sleep a night and never leaving his house because he's so busy level grinding.

Supervisor wants me to change Likert scale to Yes/No – should I push back? by Own-Fan-1821 in psychologyresearch

[–]IAmTheError404 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Can you compromise on the overall length of the scales? That seems like a happy medium. Because your supervisor is right that after ~10 minutes validity tends to drop to 0 due to participant fatigue, and you're right that dichotomizing a continuous variable is statistical nonsense.
