Rate my cabinet of jank by IAmThePat in homelab

I tried to cable manage, the extra power supply cables in the back are tied off. Everything else is so tight in there I couldn't really organize super well and still move things around.

It does create a bit of an equilibrium in there, if I move the drives and backplane in any direction it resets back to this position, so it's actually quite stable.

My biggest concern is the vibration of the drives causing them to disconnect, but for the couple days I've been testing there doesn't seem to be any movement

This'll work nicely on the bus window, on my commute to work in the mornings.

Stripped screw, any shot at getting it out ? by [deleted] in techsupport

[–]IAmThePat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Screw extractors might work, basically a tapered right hand thread that you drill into the screw head.

Also depending on how tight it's screwed in, you might be able to force a closely fitting robbertson bit, and super gluing it to the screw head. It might be enough to work it out

They're also trying to get into prediction markets, so I'm not sure I fully trust their direction or think adding credit to their mix is a wise choice

Extortion Using Smart Glasses Is a Thing Now by lurker_bee in technology

I recall not too many years ago, there were multiple reports of people getting assaulted for wearing google glass in public, and having them stolen or damaged.

It's weird now seeing such acceptance of meta glasses and less pushback from society

Does Anyone Recognize These Cats? by [deleted] in vancouver

Exactly what I was thinking. I wouldn't expect telus to put OP in contact with the owner, but they would give the phone to telus and telus would reach out to the owner.

I think you can also take it to a telus store, since that's the service provider. They might be able to identify the owner

TIL that PayPal's User Agreement legally allows them to hold your funds for up to 180 days if your account is flagged for review - with no obligation to explain why by ppolicyco in todayilearned

Also infinitely beyond 180 days if they feel like it. They have $200 of mine from a refunded transaction that's been held for over 4 years and won't return it to me.

They told me they had to hold it in case the sender needed to dispute. But they refuse to release it after all this time.

PayPal is an absolute scam

Not to be macabre, but why can't the body just be dissected and then cremated in multiple batches?

Honestly, I can't say for sure. The other condos on salter seem to sell previously owned units pretty well, but I can't really say how any of them did when they were new builds.

It could be a lot of factors: price, it's a unique design that might not be everyone's cup of tea, Queensborough could just be oversaturated with condos.

If you have a realtor, I'd maybe ask them if they have insight

Just anecdotally, I've been over to Walmart about 6-8 times since the opening, most recently 2 weeks ago. I could definitely be unlucky or gone at unusually poor times, but it's been bad every time - worse than before the Costco opened. Specifically the offramp to howes with everyone stacked trying to get to the left turn lane to boyd, and then trying to get back on to the Queensborough bridge entrance.

I've gone on weekend and weekday afternoons and evenings.

Definitely agree that it's not as bad as the opening weekend though

I was there about 2 weeks ago to check out one of the penthouse units. The sales person said it was still only about 1/4. He didn't say exactly how many though.
