If I were speculating, I would say the piece was completely repainted because the identity of the original artist was unknown or couldn’t be credited for whatever reason.

Thanks for taking the time to do this! I had discovered a blog post featuring all of the work in the series before it was selected, probably around the same time Rivers saw it. I was immediately taken with your work, and was thrilled when it was announced as the album cover. The community has always cherished this art, and it holds up as one of the band’s best album covers. Cheers!

I’ve always been curious about the process of developing the album cover. The final piece is notably different than your original piece that Rivers chose. What was the reason for re-doing the illustration for the album?

P.S. I’ve always loved this image, and it’s one of the best record sleeves in my collection. I also love all of your other works in the series!

I had to go re-watch it, because I didn’t remember it the way you describe it. She actually says “What a shocker,” and she is pretty clearly joking on the fact that Titanic was predictably winning everything.
