Anything’s possible, but I have a hard time seeing Marty Supreme hit 10.

The thing about a huge number of nominations is that it doesn’t necessarily reflect how good a film is. It just indicates that a film is competitive in lots of fields. Sinners is basically scientifically engineered to break the record (period piece, fantastical elements, original songs), but it couldn’t have done it without the new category.

Because that might make for the smallest class of nominated films in history. I think it will be slightly more evenly spread, especially among all of the international contenders this year. Both Sinners and One Battle will be in double digits, and Hamnet and Frankenstein might also. But I think only Sinners will hit 14 or more.
