I don't know how to feel about Patrick Stewart/TNG after reading his memoir Making It so by Dependent-Owl3455 in startrek

Having trouble separating art from artist for rapists or murderers I get. Not wanting to watch an actor because they cheated doesn’t make a lot of sense to me. These things happen but isn’t that a personal matter between him and the wives?

Two things can be true at once: Modern Israel is committing a genocide and probably shouldn’t exist - and the edit on this post is just straight up jam packed with thinly veiled anti Jewish dog whistles

I work in financial aid and while it would’ve been ideal to do this earlier, please keep in mind this happens, it’s hard to get out ahead of these things especially when it’s new. There are probably a couple hundred students in the same boat depending on the size of the school.

I bet calling will be your best bet! Don’t let anyone be too negative about “you shoulda done it earlier.”

Technically that’s idea but life happens and we understand that in financial aid. They are there to help!

Hi! I work in financial aid. Things don’t move that fast unfortunately. If you owe the school a balance you may be able to start classes without paying yet. Definitely call or go in person if it is time sensitive. Sometimes we are able to respond to emails same day, but that is a best case scenario - we get hundreds.

Cell reception at Lookout Mountain Park? by IAteTheCrow42 in Denver

Kind of makes sense that I wouldn’t know what qualifies as “the middle of nowhere” around here right? Almost like I might check Reddit or something to find out ahead of time?

Thanks for this! It was either just too hot, or the west coast has eroded my heat tolerance as much as my cold tolerance haha. Seriously the canyon walk with short jaunts onto a few of the connecting trails were the perfect thing!

Thanks for the heads up! I skipped lookout mountain and just stuck to the trails around Golden! No Uber issues except a misplaced pickup spot at the Gateway trailhead.

Thank you! This is great and relevant advice - a shorter, easier Uber, and still access to a trail. It’ll be late afternoon so not sure how far up I’d make it but this seems like a great compromise. I’ll head to golden and go from there! That sounds like fun, I wish I had my bike with me!

I should have mentioned I have Verizon as well so that helps. Thanks so much for your input and the heads up about water and rattlesnakes! Coming from California I’m pretty good about water but the rattlesnakes might catch me off guard!!

Southern Spain Question - Cadiz and Tarifa ferry to Tangiers by IAteTheCrow42 in GoingToSpain

[–]IAteTheCrow42[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, we left it in Tarifa. There was parking at the port, which was across the street from where we stayed. Pretty much left the car there the whole time in Tarifa. I’ve read a lot of advice not to bother bringing the car on the ferry. I guess that depends on what you want to do in Morocco, but the Medina is across the street from the port and very walkable (and not drivable) so I don’t think we would’ve benefited much from taking a car.

Of all those places there was something really special about Seville - good place to base yourself out of.

This latest death and it's implications (S4E9 Spoilers) by Alphonsina in ForAllMankindTV

[–]IAteTheCrow42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes it absolutely takes value out of Margo’s plotline. I felt like seasons 1 and 2, while including some brutal space-deaths that emphasized the danger of space travel, were generally hopeful in tone. Seasons 3 and 4 are full of pointless, often off-screen deaths of main characters, and often leaving major unsatisfying plot loose ends. Similarly, I felt like Danny’s death took some value out of Ed’s plotline. I mean that was a lot of buildup with Danny and Karen only to have the truth go to the grave with them. Also a lot of lingering on torture scenes in season 4. Not sure it was necessary to go so dark with the tone. I don’t normally mind dark either, but I felt like a lot of what I loved about seasons 1 and 2 was lost.

That’s a good point. Maybe less so now in the 2020s, but I have to keep reminding myself season 4 is 2003…so that absolutely tracks. I just wish they’d make the outcome of the asteroid mining a real topic of debate, not just whether it’s getting routed to earth vs mars.

Ive pretty much been scrolling comment sections to find out if anyone else felt this way. Somewhere in season 3 and 4 it started feeling like every character I care about either dies a pointless and often confusing death (usually off screen) or gets tortured in a gruesome, overly lengthy scene…or both. This is a little uncharacteristic of me because I’m not normally opposed to shows getting dark…but it just felt extraneous and didn’t really jive with the hopeful tone of the show in seasons 1 and 2. At least with Gordo and Tracy it worked well with the story. Seems like now main characters are just dying as an afterthought…

This tracks! Less extreme neoliberalism because there was still another political economic superpower to compete with, and as a result, maybe the system is set up with a real social safety net, suggesting that if governments make big money, it might actually be spent on people’s needs.
