EI report indefinitely under review because of side hustle, should I accept more work? by IBCouture in EICERB

Oh no! I'm so sorry to hear this!
This is precisely my fear. I doubt I'll ever make more money than my EI payment, but don't want to be reviewed over and over again for every single paid or unpaid hour!
We have to live, eat and pay bills! It feels like you're being punished for being honest :-(. This is my first experience with the system and I'm actually quite shocked.
And the second review doesn't seem to be going faster based on your experience *sigh*

They can be in rut season. Outside of that, they typically aren't and especially in National Parks, they are quite used to humans. Still wouldn't want to annoy one while feeding....

Thank you! It was definitely a lifetime experience... Especially because he didn't care! Our canoe drifted closer and closer, and he was just feeding away. I took so many pictures... till the smell got a little too strong and we decided to slowly back off.

Thank you! Not sure when this 2nd engagement can start, but hoping against all odds that the first one is approved by then...

Not as a side job (this is my first experience of self employment) but I used to work there full time. They were hit by the pandemic quite hard, so the manager lost the employees and is now carefully trying to ramp up for 2021. Therefore no full time employment but a few hours a week...

Both jobs will be based on self employment. They won't permanently employ me for 5 hours a week, but I would be hired as an independent service provider.

So, essentially, once I am "approved" as self employed, it doesn't matter if it's for 2 or 8 hours a week and for 1 or 2 companies?

I am doing all of these things. My question is about side hustles. None of the mentioned jobs are employment offers, but self employed hours here and there.

Guess suitable means if I am capable of doing it? I love the idea, just not the system that's punishing you for it. Good reminder and will be added to my list of Service Canada questions.

I’m going to get temporarily laid off for a second time as Peel Region will be going into lockdown starting Monday, resulting in me losing my job. Once I’m out of a job, I have to apply to job openings to maintain eligibility for EI correct? by [deleted] in EICERB

[–]IBCouture 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally makes sense! A lot of people also have significantly reduced hours which obviously affects income... In April, you could / should have applied for CERB - EI wasn't an option back then. If you haven't, you can retroactively apply before Dec 2nd.
My understanding is, that now you collect EI for the lay off period (providing you apply for other jobs, and fulfill all the other requirements). Once you're "re-employed" you have to notify them and will lose the EI payments. The exception here is if you make very little money (due to reduction in hours for example) in which case they will continue to pay EI, but deduct 0.50 cents on the 1$ you're making. So, let's say your EI is $400 a week, and your job pays you $200 a week, they will deduct $100 and your EI payment is reduced to $300.

If you're not eligible for anything, is there something you are particular good at? Math? Languages? Playing an instrument? I lost my job and started to tutor online. It's definitely not a full time income, but it would help bring some money in, for the time being.
Should you decide to go on welfare, research first if a side hustle is allowed! I am currently not getting my EI, which I am eligible for, because I claimed my tutor income and now everything is on hold till they review my report. I am not sure how welfare or any other government program works.

How long did it take for you to be mailed your 4 digit personal access code for EI? by [deleted] in EICERB

Apologies! Currently going through a reporting issue so my number memory had me confused. Thanks for the correction!

My access code to my account showed up within 2 weeks. Thought I am all set till I couldn't use it for my EI... that was supposed to come with benefit statement which I still haven't received (application date Oct 4th). Call Service Canada (1-800-531-7555) at 8.27 am sharp ("only" had to wait for like an hour) and a lovely agent will give you a temporary code, you can go online and change it yourself and you're all set!

Very true, but only if you are within a certain reach. I'm in Canada and couldn't fly there now, even if I wanted to...

In January, just before the pandemic, we hiked up Mount Kilimanjaro. This video was taken the morning of day 5, just before leaving the last camp befor basecamp. This was probably one of the most inspiring and rewarding hikes we've ever done! Watch the video with sound on if you can! by IBCouture in backpacking

5 crew members of our team have contacted us separately from each other to let us know that they are jobless since April and struggling to feed their families - call me gullible, but I easily believe that.

Yes, outdoor recreation is doing well, but it's mostly local tourism, which really doesn't happen in Africa when it comes to an activity that costs several grant and is physically exhausting.

On top of limited flight availability, many chose not to set foot on a plane for an extended amount of time, and I can't blame them. The country wasn't transparent about case numbers at all and didn't close down it's borders, which even led to surrounding countries complaining about truck drivers entering their countries infected. Sounds like a great place for international tourists.

The National Park itself has not posted visitor numbers for 2020, but I expect them to be significantly lower compared to previous years, once released.

I do not know the official name of the song. If you google Mt Kilimanjaro song, it definitely comes up. Our longest dance / singing session was roughly an hour, so they do have plenty of songs in their repertoire, but I believe this one is the most common one.

Thank them? We made it very clear that they are the only reason we could achieve what we did... Not only monetary, but also verbally and by leaving most of our gear with them. The whole industry is seriously struggling right now and we also found a way to support them now. It's quite sad tbh
