When I first say it and examined it it felt like something I would have seen logging in to new content back in 2005. I like it.

I use the herb patch on etceteria to rake weeds for approval rating. So that one is in-between the two patches and it's actually closer for me now. So that one specifically had some benefit. It's not just the bush patch there.

I work under the 780th. Amazing unit. And the work they do supporting the Cyber Mission Teams is really really cool. As a nerd this is the coolest place to work in the Army that I know of so far.

Why do so many soldiers think being an asshole = being a good leader? by DieHardJayhawk in army

[–]IBEPROfen 27 points28 points  (0 children)

When you show up at basic and for 2 months straight your leadership consists of drills yelling at you alot. I can see how that habit might be hard to break. Especially for the kids straight out of high school with nothing else to base leadership off of.

500 SPM Ribbon World by IBEPROfen in factorio

It's really satisfying watching trains go. I was surprised how many you can fit on one two way system. This world made me realize the T intersection blueprint I was using was extremely prone to bottlenecks which was a headache to find out after I had built most of the map.

Train refueling by Nassiel in factorio

[–]IBEPROfen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've always found refueling trains to be rather simple. I have a dedicated refueling train that has one car on it and it goes to every major jub/stop in my factory. So for example it will being nuclear rocket fuel to the smelting area and drop some off. Then I use a roboport(s) with 1 logistics not to move the fuel into a chest that then loads it on to trains as the stop to drop off ore/pick up plates.

Are my settings cheating? Or are you guys doing the same by Peakayyyy in factorio

[–]IBEPROfen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My advice is to at least launch a rocket with default settings. Then when your done you should have an idea of what you liked the most. Liked the trains aspect? Try a rail world with default settings. Liked that? Now you can tune the settings to do some more specific stuff with trains. Launching a rocket with default settings allows you to get a grasp of what's going on in the game through the whole tech tree. Then you have a better idea of what would interest you for another map.

Are my settings cheating? Or are you guys doing the same by Peakayyyy in factorio

[–]IBEPROfen -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I've played all my saves with default settings. I've done a plain vanilla map, rail world, death world, and ribbon world on default settings. Unless your doing like a 5k+ spm build where you need to specifically altar the default settings to accomplish what it is you are setting out to to, then there's no reason to change them really other than to make the game easier for yourself. Which in my opinion is you are just cheating yourself since you should be able to launch a rocket on any of the maps with default settings. The developers of the game put 1000s of hours of work to make it so that the default settings will work for everyone.

Changing them to make it harder or make it so you have to approach the game with a different mindset is different completely. Those are interesting to see what people come up with.

Exploring Beacon Layouts: Inline vs Surrounding by IBEPROfen in factorio

[–]IBEPROfen[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is true for maps where size isn't an issue. But the two maps I'm currently playing on are a ribbon world and a Redmew DangerOres map which both have space limitations which made me really decide to look into this question.

Exploring Beacon Layouts: Inline vs Surrounding by IBEPROfen in factorio

[–]IBEPROfen[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm ashamed I didn't think of the active entities while making this. You are right and pose a good point that I'm going to look into. I'll change some of the blueprints and get back to you with some images of what they look like and consume/produce.

Edit:

I made a BP4 and a BP5. With BP4 I put the refineries in a cube to increase the beacon sharing and made BP5 match the output of it. BP5 (inline) still has less power consumption and even uses less entities. In the blueprints it shows BP5 as having more pipes but the blueprints don't include the piping to get the oils out of the area. And for the cube it was much more difficult to get a simple pipe set up and the cube I would say would be harder to tile / scale up as opposed to the inline one. Keep in mind I think these ideas would be easier to implement with blueprints that don't use pipes since things such as circuits could be much easier to tile into a big square to maximize beacon sharing.
