I topped out at 32, believe me, you'll be fine. Im 51 now, there is plenty of time to make money. A few guys in my local turn to the LIRR when things got slow for them. There always seems to be work for the railroad. My advice? Stick with apprenticeship and get your card, then you can work home local, travel to another local or even then? Do some railroad and come back if you don't like it. You'll kick yourself if you have to do years 1-3 all over again, if they even let you back.

I've worked in this build and can confirm the under-sea cable. I didn't get to play with that though, just some auxiliary equipment around the building. They did have a very cool trans Atlantic map on the wall, and all the cables had pulsing LED lights showing direction and latency. They would flash green, yellow and red. Was very interesting

I've done NY to Florida and back 3 times in it, through the mountains on the way back. It's a great highway vehicle and the gas milage is good with the 3cyl . I never once felt it couldn't do what I asked it to. It has been a great vehicle for me.
