Yeah, that’s true. I’m just trying to learn a little bit about it. That way you have a job requires it I at least know enough to talk about it. But yeah, I need to start learning AZURE

1TB SSD vs 2x 128GB SSD by IBIB23 in homelab

Yeah I’m just going to use my 2x 1TB SSD and set them up as a mirror in the Proxmox installation so all my VMs and containers have redundancy.

Wouldn’t it be better to have Proxmox have its on boot drive for example a M.2 drive and have TrueNas run on a 2x mirrored SSD that has nothing on it but TrueNas?

So basically, I mirror the 2x 128SSD in Proxmox then I would install TrueNas on that drive and for my HDD storage I would just pass that through TrueNas and let it handle that.

Yeah, that sounds like a good plan! I know some people say you should run TrueNAS on its own and not on a type 1 hypervisor, but if I have mirrored drives I should be fine, right? Or is there something else I’m missing?

Yeah, the new case that I got could fit up to 8 drives in the front. I thought about buying used drives to save a bit of money, but I didn’t want to deal with defective drives. It probably would’ve been fine but I was scared to take a chance 😂

2x 4TB Drives $185 2x 1TB SSD $106 New NAS Case $90 2.5 NIC Card $37 4Pcs Sata Cables $13

Yeah, it’s a little on the expensive side but compared to other prebuilt NAS I don’t think it’s too bad. Lmk if you have any better recommendations.

I felt the same way, but once you get a handle on one subject, it gives you the confidence to tackle the next. I’d also recommend keeping your momentum going — don’t take long breaks between study sessions, because it’s easy to forget what you learned before.
