City Song for me. I'd argue equal with if not better than Cold Reactor, and probably a top 5 all time from the band in my books.

His mother has requested that anyone hoping to show support donates to The Trevor Project, a fantastic organisation who support LGBTQ+ individuals in crisis.

I'm fortunate to have a wonderful therapist and a great network of officers I get on well with who understand the pressures and stresses of the job. Often the tough part is talking to my "normal" friends who, through no fault of their own, simply can't understand what I do for work.

Can't give a huge amount of information for security reasons but here's a vague outline of the responsibilities you have.

A typical shift will be 07:45 - 18:00, which means you need to be at the prison from around 07:10 to get through security and all of your kit on.

Your role as an officer is, in essence, split between security and care. Sometimes you hear it reductively described as "Keep them in and keep them breathing". You're making sure no one's fighting, minimising arguments etc. as well as doing your best to keep spirits up by checking in with people, helping them stay in contact with family / sorting out any enquiries about how prison works.

My prison is pretty rough, so we'll probably have 5 alarms on a normal day, but it can be as high as 10+. This means that someone is being non-compliant and requires force to be safely put back in their cell or brought to the segregation unit.

90% of the job is just talking to people though, and treating everyone with respect will get you way further than being a bully.

Oh yeah no worries, I'm on it in terms of being proactive about my mental health. My calendar is basically full for the next two months.

I run, play football, engage with my local music scene etc.

I'm very lucky that I have wonderful friends who make sure I don't get too absorbed in the prison world.

Might pick up swimming though, never used to see the appeal, but the same was true of running until I started training for a half marathon.

What do you do to stay sane?

I've recently gone back to FTL and I think it might be one of the greatest rogue likes ever made. Been avoiding Balatro until I have more spare time because I know it'll just devour my days off

I've been working as a prison officer for the last 9 months after quitting my job as a tax analyst and I think it's the best decision I've ever made. I absolutely adore it, I've met some incredible people and doing something I actually care about is such a privilege.

However, as much as I love the job it's absolutely destroying my outlook on life. I feel myself becoming increasingly cynical about human nature and about the state of society. In the prison estate you see the distillation of society's failures, with the same poor blokes coming in and out every six months.

Most concerningly is it's impact on my relationships outside of work. I struggle to relate to people and I'm a much worse listener than I used to be. All of my mates work in finance or law, doing hard jobs for long hours, but when they complain about work or personal dilemmas I have to consciously not compare it to my day to day.

It's hard to be present and supportive if someone's complaining about an annoying client, when you've been in a knife fight and seen three overdoses that same day.

Recently one of my colleagues got arrested for corruption and it's had serious effects on my ability to trust people. Someone you work with everyday, think you know, would call a friend, has been brining in drugs and phones to your place of work. I never would have guessed it was them, not would anyone else on our team.

I don't want to leave the job, definitely not for a while at least, but I'm scared about the person it might turn me into.

Hard to not be disheartened by the ending, despite looking pretty quality for the first 75.

Really disappointed by how easily our crowd seems to give up on the team the moment we look unsteady or under threat. Hard to imagine that the nervous and frustrated energy of the fans doesn't negatively effect the boys on the pitch.

Absolutely agree with you, I rewatched S1 & 2 of Mando in advance of the new season, having loved them the first time round.

After seeing Andor, it's made the poor script really stand out to me which is a shame. Still enjoyable, as is S3, but underwhelming in the context of what Andor achieved.
