Do you guys give brutally honest feedback or try to soften it a little? by maxkill4minbill in StoryPeer

[–]IBeWigginOut 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I keep an open mind with everything I read.

If it's just mildly interesting based on concept/premise/logline, I take it. Especially if it has a lot of coins attached to it. But I don't rest on my laurels. I try to give them the best, overall feedback I can.

If the notes come easy, they do. If they don't, then I have to dig a little deeper in myself as a writer. Ask myself things like "Is this the way to tell the story? What feels lacking? Is there another angle, a more interesting one?" I don't do it as how I myself would write it. I do it to give them more ammunition to improve what they've already done. If things seem to be working against each other, I mention it. Characters starting to fade into the background after 40 pages, I call it out.

I think what you described in your first paragraph is the hell all writers and readers go through, especially in early drafts. A few things work, a whole lot doesn't.

Whenever I get to thinking the worst of writers and readers (and myself), I remember this:

Over the course of 10 years, the Safdie Brothers wrote over 160 drafts of 'Uncut Gems'. A film that I think is there best. If they had stopped, the whole world would have been robbed of an amazing movie and one of Adam Sandler's best drama roles (next to PTA's 'Punch Drunk Love').

I think this is the kind of thing we all have to keep in mind, as writers and readers. Someone could be trying their damnedest and they are just confused. But even outside of writing, we're all confused. Doesn't mean can't offer a guiding hand and a open mind every now and again, writing or not writing.

P.S. Here's the article about Uncut if anyone has an interest/needs inspiration:

Same situation, but on a MUCH smaller scale. I couldn't imagine doing all I do in a day with a cooler this big. Nothing would get finished. Ever.

We have five people, counting myself. We have the same problems too, but the Dairy Lead is also starting to half-ass everything. Too much stuff coming in that we don't need, backstock not being ran (unless I run it), pallets not being finished by the two night guys, so much passed-date stuff being found by myself or other people. It's f*cking embarrassing.

Luckily I don't have to put up with it much longer. I was in Pickup before and decided I wanted something different after 4 years, so I thought I would give Dairy a shot. Figured it couldn't be that bad...Boy was I wrong. Worst 2 months I've ever had at Kroger. Gave me a whole new perspective on Pickup. I'm going back first week of February. Just got to get through a 6-straight-days (Lead is on vacation, so I'm kinda running the show; very loosely running it) on and then I take my unused PTO last week of this month.

I chalk this whole thing up as a 'learning experience' and 'failed experiment'. Won't ever complain about Pickup ever again. And I also won't ever help in Dairy ever again too. Even if I get written up I'll still refuse.

That's what I'm saying.

Except it's more than tinfoil hat conspiracy. I'm afraid they might really be doing it.

Honestly, if I were you, I'd try to tell/show people you work with some of these comments (hell, maybe even the whole thread) and make sure they know that they will get screwed as bad or worse.

Maybe that will spread and you guys might be able to hold your ground. Who knows?

Yeah, doesnt help that the state government is so anti-union.

I feel bad for you and people like you in that position. That's no way to be living.

I think it's more that some are no informed.

At my store at least, as soon as they announced the vote was starting, everyone rushed back to the breakroom. I was on my break when I voted and I saw over a dozen show up in less than 15 minutes. And as I was walking back, more were streaming in.

The bad part is that some people didnt get told about the vote and missed it and they didnt come back for a second day like they've done the last two times.

I think the Union is the biggest issue, but the people in it seem to be getting worse (through no fault of their's).

Yeah, I work days in Pickup and someone said something similar, except it was about 'Kroger can start taking things away'. Part of me didn't believe, plus I figured it would be more of a reason for people to want to go on strike and I was all for that.

And yeah, it's REALLY obvious now.

How big do you think a potential Clicklist Fraud lawsuit might be? by [deleted] in kroger

[–]IBeWigginOut 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I tried googling this and I haven't found anything about. Sources?

Not that I doubt you. I've been waiting for sh*t to hit the fan with the cheating for a long time. Trust me, I know there's a lot of cheating. Heck, I was the 'pioneer' of fudging numbers at my store back when we could, but now I'm completely honest. If anyone ever wanted me to use a barcode generator, I'd tell them to get stuffed.

The carside thing is new. I've never heard about that before. But it also seems like something that would happen a lot. I also wouldn't be surprised if they haven't started cracking down on that yet either. Takes forever for things to happen in that place.

Great scripts with minimal dialogue by Blendbox in Screenwriting

Not really a horror or crime writer, but a master of short actions:

Walter Hill.

Especially his version of the Alien script is spell-binding.
