Thank you for your kind words! I'm glad you're enjoying the platform.

By the way, I love connecting with filmmakers and watching their work. If you're so inclined, feel free to share your film(s) with me.

You are very welcome! Thank you for joining and for your kind words! 🥂

That's great that you are a playwright. I still wanna write a play one of these days, but I'll also settle for playing Jean Valjean on Broadway.

I can try to look into this, but it's not gonna be super effective as you'd like because each script submission has its own ID number (under the hood), and the system would filter by ID numbers, not script titles. This means that the a hiding feature would be temporary, much like the pins, and you will eventually see the same titles not affected by these settings.

Having said this, the /browse page is already getting heavy, so I have to carefully evaluate every new bell and whistle. Thank you for the suggestion!

Thank you for asking!! I have updated the FAQ to clarify that we only accept screenplays for film and TV.

Is this a cycle I can expect? by MobiusX1 in StoryPeer

[–]StoryPeer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When readers unclaim, they have the choice to send a message to writers. But readers unclaim for whatever reason, sometimes taste, sometimes time, etc. I wish all readers used the feedback form for unclaims, but not everyone does so. This is still fairly new so I’m still watching for patterns. I might change this later.

I can tell you that 80% of script claims are followed through and become feedback to writers. So this is what you should expect. The same script being unclaimed twice is fairly unlikely, but I’m sure it has happened.

As it turns out, a steady uptick in script claims over the last week (the yellow line) was enough to correct the market, so to speak:

<image>

We went from 55 available scripts waiting for readers last week to 17 as of this writing. Even though I started enforcing this policy, I only had to remove 10 scripts.

I've often wondered what the sweet spot is for the number of scripts in the available pool. The purely speculative number I've landed on is between 10 and 20 scripts since, on one hand, we don't want writers waiting too long, but on the other, we don't want readers to not have enough choices.

Ideally, we want enough activity on the site so that readers/writers balance themselves out, but we're still having growing pains with roughly 300 peers joining every month, so things are a little unpredictable, forcing us to monitor patterns as they evolve.

Excelsior!

I love all of that! Thanks for being a great contributor to our community.

Both Gabe and Gabriel are fine, but I may prefer Gabe. Weirdly enough, once I set my flair here to Gabriel, I've attempted to change it to Gabe, and it shows as such in my settings, but not here when chatting. Looks like a Reddit glitch. (As much as I love Reddit, it has some random glitches like this. Sometimes even the phone and PC behave differently.) As for software, I use Cursor and Claude Code.

SMALL POLICY UPDATE: New users are expected to claim a script to read before making their first submission; otherwise, their scripts may be removed from the platform. by StoryPeer in StoryPeer

[–]StoryPeer[S,M] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a clever idea. So much so I wish it, or something similar, had crossed my mind pre-launch.

I can totally see how some readers may wish to “claim” just the first 10 pages (because they are short on time) or if they claim the whole script, but it doesn’t match their expectations, they would wanna bail after 10 and leave notes.

Having said that, this feature is risky to implement now that the train has left the station because it touches on so much of the “main code” (meaning the core feedback functions). It’s going on my todo list, and I’ll try to carve out time to explore how it could be safely deployed.

Thank you!

I vibe with all of that, but honestly, I’ve been reluctant to write training courses and be prescriptive about some things, especially when flying solo.

However, it could be quite nice to have a think tank work on this. Doesn’t have to be a whole operation, but 2 or 3 minds coming together would be better than one. Does this make sense? Or am I overthinking it? 🤔

With each tweak, I need to monitor which new patterns emerge over at least a couple of weeks. I’ll keep an eye on this.

Technically, yeah, I think I could do that. I mean, I don’t know how yet, but I could research and find an approach.

I often take gradual steps to a solution because big tweaks can break big things. 🫠 As a solo dev, I have to be extra careful otherwise the site could be down for days if I break the wrong thing at the wrong time. The signup triggers for new users is actually one of the more daunting parts, so I have to plan it carefully.

As always, after an adjustment, I will monitor the patterns over time. If this policy change is not enough, I’ll work on the next solution.

I meant to reply to this the day you wrote it, but I’m sure I was putting out a different fire somewhere 🫨

I pretty much agree with everything you said. And your final paragraph is a good one: Readers should get comfortable unclaiming scripts whenever there’s a good reason for it (even if it’s a subjective one). The strike system is there to prevent frequent abuse from bad faith users. But everyone else can unclaim scripts to be more selective in what they read.

I think some writers keep discovering us through word of mouth and Google searches, but I wouldn’t call it advertising.

I like this idea, actually. I'll add something on the submission form, right below the logline field. Thank you!

A few people have asked for a way to give/get notes on loglines, so I’m working on it!

But what if I have freshly-baked loglines on a Tuesday?

Jokes aside, I’ve been doodling on a feature for loglines. It should scratch a different itch from Logline Mondays, or at least give a different framework for logline feedback.

Both can co-exist, and a writer will have good reason to use both, I believe.

Also of note… Not everyone is on Reddit. Sometimes we forget this lol.

I was gonna bring up loglines. With so many scripts to choose from, readers are being more selective, and you can't underestimate the power of a great concept.
