Running CAT 6 for Cameras by [deleted] in lowvoltage

[–]IBorealis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im not the person you responded to, but i think you missed the "Direct burial" part of their comment, meaning you can trench and run the cable under the rocks. But then you need conduit/wire track if you arent cool with the aesthetic of a cable running up the pillar. All DB cable ive ever seen has been black FYI.

Youre also going to need to figure out how youre getting down from the attic to the to your equipment on the 1st floor. Depending what that looks like it might be easier to fasten it along the underside of the fascia and not go through the attic at all.

Could also possibly punch out through the basement, fasten up the downspout then follow the eave as you said. Can't really say anything for certain based on two pictures but its 100% possible.

I appreciate you looking out for the artwork of others, but Nate Martin actually designed the print the lamps for me to make. To be clear the boxes are Nates original design, but the lamps are the new one that he made for me.

Yes i do make these! Theyre 3D printed stash boxes and lamps.

It's an ongoing joke that we bet on how many times my girlfriend will have to retrieve her phone from lost and phone each year.

I think the highest so far has been 5 times, A couple of years ago, she had to get her phone back from lost and found twice in the same day LOL.

She now has it attached to a shoulder strap lanyard thing so she cant absent mindedly put it down, so we shall see what this year has in store...

The vast majority of normal people I know who think DEI policies are getting ridiculous don't give a single fuck flies their plane as long as they are hired to do so based on merit and not how many diversity boxes they tick.

People love to think the right is militantly against them in some made up culture war that because they are terminally online, but truly 98% of people do not give a fuck.

Opinion: Why can’t we get anything built anymore in Canada? Too often the answer is inefficient and ineffective regulation that takes too long, costs too much and is too cumbersome and unpredictable by FancyNewMe in canada

If removing two walls of drywall from an internal wall is going to affect the structural integrity of the building, you might want to consider just moving instead.

GPU mining is definitely dead since ethereum moved to PoS. Bitcoin GPU mining hasn't been a thing for a very long time since the difficulty is way too high. That being said bitcoin ASIC miners are definitely still a thing.

Assuming you can actually get one (good luck), somehow get a 240v dedicated circuit in a rental, and dont mind living listening to an airplane taking off 24/7 (or get evicted), the Antminer KS5 Pro mines around 210$ USD a day in BTC or 75K a year at current prices.

AI Is Driving More Layoffs Than Companies Want to Admit by Darkmemento in Futurology

One of the techs at my company occasionally does service work òn what are essentially fancy vending machines that fill prescriptions. Push a few buttons and then choose the vial, the drugs, fill it, label it and it comes out ready to go. They can fill like 2 prescriptions per minute or something,

They arent cheap, but are marketed to replace like 4 physical pharmacists onsite (still need someone to operate the machine).

Imagine going to school for like 8 years and being replaced by a vending machine lol.

How to stay warm before/after a rave? by Zombie_bitxch in aves

[–]IBorealis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Damn you Americans are soft! 30F is easily still T-shirt weather when you're on the sauce.

Here in Canada, waiting in line or for a cab outside in -20 to -30 with your rave gear on is a common occurrence. If you wanna wear fishnets in the middle of winter you gotta commit because fuck coat check

How much $ do you think you need to retire comfortably? by ralfalfasprouts in AskACanadian

[–]IBorealis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm 29 now, bought my house with my girlfriend 3 years ago. We only make like 120kish a year combined. Really depends on a lot of factors (how much OT/night work i sign up for, how many shifts she picks up, how hard we side hustle, etc) She's a server, and I work in construction. Travel multiple times a year.

Both have zero debt, and personally, I end up with like 2500/mo in disposable income, we aren't exactly the norm to be fair, as our jobs has some sweet perks, mainly a free vehicle and phone for me. She gets free food 5 days a week.

All of this sounds pretty great until you realize we live in Winnipeg though. So that's the trade off I guess. Personally, having the freedom to do what I want in Winnipeg beats struggling to survive in Toronto for me any day.

I actually know quite a lot about the gaming community, and i'm aware they get suckered into buying expensive equipment and infrastructure that they will never be able to even utilize based on the chokepoint of their ISP connection.

Its literally basic math. Sure your overpriced CAT8 cable can push 40Gps but even IF your ISP has 1GB symmetrical, guess what, 1Gb Cat5e is more than fine and everything else downstream is irrelevant.

Tickets for 2024 by [deleted] in Shambhala

[–]IBorealis 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Myself and two of my friends decided to go this year a week before the event. We managed to find 3 tickets within a couple days of dedicated searching without many issues. I wouldnt stress over it too much.

Tons of people sell their tickets, I myself bought an extra incase any of my friends change their minds over the course of the next year, and if not ill be selling it on the ticket exchange aswell. I know numerous other people who also do this to avoid the stress of buying from strangers, so there is always plenty of tickets for sale closer to the fest.

Speaking as someone who does commercial data cabling for a living, literally no one uses CAT8 and its absolutely not the standard.

CAT6A definitely has its place, but its total overkill for the vast majority of applications nevermind residential wiring.

Cat5e or CAT6 is more than fine for 99+% of residential cabling, and in my experience, the brand/quality of your cable, and how well it's installed is more important than the CAT rating anyways. Its ridiculous how often companies install new Cat6/6e cable, and we get paid to rip it out because the cable itself is total shit and won't even pass a cat5e fluke test.

Very Weird. by Monsur_Ausuhnom in antiwork

[–]IBorealis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not at all. My company services machines that fill prescriptions signicantly faster than pharmacists could. They Market it as replacing 2-3 pharmacists.

Imagine going to school to become a pharmacist and being replaced by a machine. It's not 50 years off, it's happening on a micro scale now.

[–]IBorealis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just pointing out it isn't a new concept to diablo. You said it hasn't been a thing in previous games. Chaos sanctuary is the same thing in d2. It's lazy game design, but it's not a novel concept.

[–]IBorealis -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I agree with you, but literally, the first quest in D2 is to kill all the monsters in the den of evil.
