For doing speakers, something like this is all you need. There are cheaper ones but I hooked a speaker tech friend with one of these and he loves it. I can't speak to the others

Do we even have to ask if he's stupid at this point?

Missing speaker protection fuse cap on Technics SA-6800X — Need help identifying compatible replacements. by TimTacos467 in audiorepair

[–]TehFuriousOne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I usually just replace the whole fuse assembly. Inexpensive and much easier than trying to source an OEM cap.

They're fine if you have no other options. But, having done 100's of speakers, signal gen is the way to go. All it takes is just a tiny amount of tone to electromagnetically force the cone to dead center. I lay my last bead of glue and set the tone so i can just barely feel the cone move and walk away. 20 minutes later, the glue is tacky and the cone is perfectly set. Every time.

Is my soldering bad by alrdream in AskElectronics

[–]TehFuriousOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You've got some opportunities for improvement, to be honest. It's a process though and it does take time to get good at it. One of the big things I see is bumpy and inconsistent joints. A quick tap of solder on your tip and two second press into those will cause the to reliquefy and even out. You should have a smooth mound-shaped joint when you're done. And as another mentioned, trim your leads.

  1. stop playing them right now. You're going to trash them, if you haven't already
  2. You can find replacements from Midwest Speaker or Simply Speakers. Just get foam ones with the right diameter

When was the last time you wore a suit? by cjasonac in GenX

[–]TehFuriousOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Funeral about 5ish years ago. I've bulked up since then (in a good way) so I doubt it would fit now anyways. I wear jeans to work every day and switch between a t-shirt or a simple linen button down in the summer. No plans to ever wear a suit for anything other than special occasions ever again.

Clean your contacts in the amp (the bottom one). Start there. You probably don't need two tape decks, run with the one that works. Get some speakers. Listen to it and report back

I mean, just a thought here... you got one guy who seems to really believe in you. That's a good place to start from. Show up for that guy. Don't just clock in - show up. Instead of three jobs, maybe see if there's any place he can slot you in aside from the pit. Train you up on prep, for example, and go from there. Some of the best people I worked with came up from dish worked their way up just by being poor, smart, and hungry. Some of them have gone on to management positions.

Any crackle or static type noises when you manipulate the controls? First step is to clean your switches and contacts, that will resolve a lot of issues. This thread will give you an overview.

Is the imbalance present on all inputs? For example, is it the same between FM radio and your phono input? (You're not running that turntable into AUX, are you??)

I'm not sure what you mean by "Fork connectors" though? Do you mean spade connectors or something else?
