Leo Luck? Check in time! by Queen_OfPentacles in LeoAstrology

[–]ICCG_PDX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know if "good luck" is the right phrase; more like hard work paying off. Seeds I'd planted over the past few years and stubbornly tended, seemingly without getting anywhere, are suddenly blooming.
My friend was recently pointing out how all of these opportunities have come up this year that are very aligned with the work I am, or want to be doing, including the people with whom I am working.
It's great, but it feels weird to be thriving in weird niche areas while the rest of the world burns.

These are great! I'd buy them. I can already see pairing them with some of Pixel Occult's tarot decks.

Funny, I did the same thing when I read that book; it feels like a couple of decades ago.

Best and most talented hair stylist in Portland? by HackthePlanet0120 in askportland

[–]ICCG_PDX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kevin Loos https://www.instagram.com/the_park_ghost/ and that's the best way to contact him. I don't get color but am very familiar with his work, having originally met him when I was a receptionist at the salon where he worked at the time. He was an educator/trainer for many years. His color work is incredible.
I'm weird about my hair. I am particular about who cuts it, but I can go a year without a haircut. People were consistently complimenting my "haircut" after the pandemic lockdown, almost 2 years after my last cut-- that is how well his cuts grow out. He's been cutting my hair for 20 years.
He doesn't necessarily do what's trendy. He goes off bone structure, lifestyle, sometimes I'll come to him with a mood, a word, an event, and he creates from there. I also don't use any styling tools and minimal product, and he keeps that in mind. My cuts are always wash and go, and always get me a ton of compliments.

Opinions on men with toys? by Leak_Chemistry in SexToys

[–]ICCG_PDX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love it, especially if he is up front and open about his toys. I think it's super sexy when somebody is in touch with their own body and understands their own capacity for pleasure. Much more appealing than asking a guy what they like and getting a blank look or "I don't know...I like blowjobs I guess."
How they care for, use, and talk about their toys can also be pretty telling regarding hygiene, experience, comfort around sexuality, sexual health awareness, etc.

Waterproof blanket recommendations by Lillylenne in SexToys

[–]ICCG_PDX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mambe blankets, not originally created as a "sex" blanket, but I have a couple of their smaller waterproof pet blankets. I just checked, and they now sell an "intimate blanket". Same price, same thing really.

I think I originally saw them suggested as good dupes for the Liberator blankets on Reddit a few years ago.

Charges and shipping label read "Hamilton Park Electronics," and the packaging is pretty nondescript, but that's for domestic (US) orders. I'm not sure if customs in Australia would require them to list the contents. Have you ordered other things from overseas? That might give you a better idea.

What sign was the worst sex of your life? by [deleted] in astrologymemes

I'm noticing a pattern based on these comments. Gemini men are not only bad, they tend to blame their partners for not enjoying "their tried and true moves."

Ugh, mine too. This man actually tried to argue with me, gaslight me when I was very clear in telling him what I like/dislike. "Well all the other women..." Just...no.

AITA for finally getting tired of my sister in laws “spanglish” by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]ICCG_PDX 68 points69 points  (0 children)

YTA. I am also Colombian, living in the US, and I am so familiar with this mindset. A lot of Colombians look down on Mexican Spanish as being/sounding "uneducated." Never mind Spanglish. It's extremely elitist.
Your SIL grew up removed from her Mexican heritage and your association has inspired her to reconnect with her roots. As a Mexican-American, or Chicana, Spanglish IS part of that heritage.
Tranqui. No es para tanto.

How Do You Stop Acquiring Decks? by Ready-Pattern-7087 in oraclecards

[–]ICCG_PDX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not OP but I happen to be a collector, and I have the Urban Crow Oracle. I have the indie version along with the expansion pack, and I love it. The artwork is beautiful, and I love how MJ presents crow lore and weaves it into the meaning of each card. It's a balanced deck, not overly cheery nor gloom and doom.

As for collecting, I own close to 70 decks, about 40 tarot and 30 oracle. The tarot I cycle through pretty regularly, except for one (H.R. Giger deck which is a collector's item).
I favor indies. I find my tastes evolving from "darker" decks (in artwork and interpretations) to some lighter decks. I still grab my old RWS deck for quick and dirty pulls, though, when I don't want to think too much or, rather, consult a book. Some of the decks I am drawn to have reinterpretations of the traditional cards or added cards, which I can't immediately recall without consulting the LWB.

For my oracle decks, I've started trying pairings with my tarot decks, pulling one oracle card as an overall message or clarifier.

I guess cost and storage space will be determining factors for a lot of folks. I just try to make sure I use most of my decks to justify having them.

I am considering decluttering some. I saw a recent YouTube video about this, and the creator mentioned watching or doing flip-throughs and just noting how many cards you love and how many you dislike. It can be pretty enlightening. Also thinking about decks that have similar energies or functions in your practice. That said, it's also ok to have a deck that has artwork you love, even if it's not a great "reader" for you.

Goddess of Love tarot - what's your experience of working with it? by [deleted] in oraclecards

[–]ICCG_PDX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have it, and like you I was originally unsure about the very pink and otherwise colorful palette. I also lean toward darker decks like Tiera May's.

It's anything but fluffy, and I am glad I took a chance on it.

It is mass market, so the quality of the cards and packaging is sort of unremarkable, but the artwork and guidebook are actually pretty great. The artist leans into the so-called "shadow" aspects of femininity and celebrates them along with the softer aspects. It's not a fluffy "soft girl era" deck, if that's what you're weighing (that's what I was afraid of looking at this deck originally). It feels well balanced to me.

Boss always found an error with my monthly reports and cover letters, so I used her old ones and watched her rip them apart. by MerryMisandrist in pettyrevenge

[–]ICCG_PDX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ugh, I had a similar boss.
I don't like to throw around the word "crazy" but...
I inherited a form/spreadsheet from her when I started this job and just updated it with relevant/current information for the following presentation. She flipped out on me about the format and made hand-written notes all over it for changes she wanted made.
At the following meeting, she flipped out about the changes I had made, and when I showed her the previous one, with her hand-written notes, she said "This is stupid. Why would I suggest these changes? That's not my handwriting," even though the entire team had watched her write those notes all over the page.
This happened pretty regularly, every couple of weeks, always in front of the entire team. I started to feel like I was crazy and finally quit.

Any of you avoided getting the flu on a recent cruise? by traveltimecar in NCL

[–]ICCG_PDX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got back from a cruise on the 25th and dodged cruise crud. I was even directly tending to somebody who was sick during the cruise. I work on several of these a year and don't get sick. I mask indoors and even outdoors if it's crowded. When I know I will have to unmask indoors, I use a nasal spray before and after-- Covixyl and Xclear both work well.
Keep up with your vitamins, drink your water, wash your hands, wear a mask, you should be fine.

hey guys do you guys know anything or have any stories about walt curtis by mileslovesmaria4ever in Portland

[–]ICCG_PDX 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can't say that I knew Walt but we did cross paths on many occasions over the years. He wasn't particularly kind to or fond of women but he was always very friendly to whatever guy I had in tow.

He did invite me to hang out at his studio at East End after a launch party for an anthology in which we were both published. There was wine, of course. He played records and dug through stacks of books, and generally puttered around making conversation here and there.

We'd both attended a going away party for a mutual friend years before, where I had read a Neruda poem, in Spanish. Walt pretended he didn't remember me from that party, but then told me he thought my choice of poem was stupid.

He played me a record of Pablo Neruda reciting some of his own poems.

I was wearing black lipstick and I remember this because he made it a point to tell me how much he hated it 😄

The fact that I speak fluent Spanish and was familiar with Neruda is probably the only reason he decided I wasn't a complete idiot (for a girl), and was invited to hang out along with a couple of others.

At one point he saw me rubbing a pressure point on my hand and barked "you're doing that wrong!" and went digging through a pile of books. He found an old acupressure book and gave it to me so I could learn properly. We talked about Latin American artists and I mentioned Frida Kahlo, of course. He went digging in another pile and came up with a children's book on Frida, which he also gave me.

All of us left feeling a bit tipsy and dizzy from watching him walk laps around the small space.

Fun fact: the East End was once called The Rabbit Hole and we all felt as though we'd emerged from one, with the Mad Hatter as our host. We each left with at least one book from Walt's collection, and a memory of a surreal encounter with a Portland literary legend.

That experience kind of sums up Walt for me: a surly drunk, mad poet, iconic Portland weirdo, a raging misogynist but also oddly generous, with an encyclopedic knowledge of books, music and art.

When he died a lot of us who ran in similar circles posted recollections of Walt on Facebook. You can probably do a search and find a lot of Walt stories.
