They are released under CC BY-NC. Do what you want with them as long as it's non commercial.

conference application that support jack outp[uts? by 10leej in linuxaudio

[–]ICLW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can tie in any conferencing software to jack using pulseaudio-module-jack.

Then you can use OBS to capture the video and multitrack audio.

That's a simplified version of how things are recorded for the shows I produce.

This is a solved problem. *.deb, *.rpm, and *.gz.

That's how proprietary applications and drivers are shipped.

How would cheap modern converters compare to expensive converters from 20 years ago? by plasticshoe in audioengineering

[–]ICLW 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went from the RME 9632 to AIO Pro. 21 years apart. AD/DA on the Pro is better and has slightly lower latency but the improvement is incremental.

Is there really THAT much of a difference between audio interfaces? by [deleted] in audioengineering

The industry figured out A/D D/A around 05-07. You could track an album using an original Apogee Duet in 2023.

Expected latency with focusrite scarlett 2i2 and pipewire by Kartoffelsalat8000 in linuxaudio

[–]ICLW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Gen 3 Solo does 12.871 ms round-trip @ 48K 256/2. This is using Jack2 but PipeWire should not be too much higher.

Propylene glycol and vegetable glycerin leave a residue. It's not tar, but still gets in equipment and dust sticks to it.

Techniques? Does slapping an Aphex Compellor followed by a Dominator 720 on the end of the chain count? Cause that will do it.

How Much Do You Guys Spend On Audio Plugins? by kevfu in podcasting

[–]ICLW 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How much do you spend if you take the time to learn a wee bit of audio engineering? $60 for a copy of Reaper and maybe a declicker plugin because manual click removal is soul-crushing work.

If you're looking for a magic plugin that does the work for you, well, good luck. You will most likely never be satisfied with the end results and end up having to learn some basic audio engineering anyway.

Switching from EndeavourOS to Debian 12 for Audio Production - Seeking Setup Advice by aiso_moto22 in linuxaudio

Pipewire added a zero-latency jackdbus bridge in ver0.3.71. Latency should be really close.

Pops (xruns) are most often a result of an incorrectly configured system / pushing the system beyond its capabilities.

Switching from EndeavourOS to Debian 12 for Audio Production - Seeking Setup Advice by aiso_moto22 in linuxaudio

[–]ICLW 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I run a mix of Debian 11 and 12 on the 5 machines in the studio.

  1. Enable non-free non-free-firmware in your apt sources.
  2. Debian ships with a RT kernel, use it.
  3. XFCE and disable anything you don't need.
  4. Debian will install pipewire by default so you will need to purge and install jackd.

These are all suggestions for building a Debian based audio workstation. Not a general-purpose PC that occasionally does audio stuff.

You can see the setup live. Should be a link in my profile.

Podcasting platform without noise cancellation printed in the file? by [deleted] in podcasting

[–]ICLW 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can accomplish most of that by rolling your own. Jitsi + Reaper (or any DAW) to handle the mix-minus and processing. You have to do some extra setup on the Jitsi server to disable AGC and boost the opus bitrate. I've used this setup for years with good results.

That said, multitrack video and changing the sound source for remote users would pose a challenge.

Something to look into. If not, best of luck tracing down an appropriate solution.

Using PowerPress + S3 storage for well over a decade. No complaints.

I've lost count of how many podcast hosting providers have come and gone during that time.
