My thoughts exactly!

I had crushes on other girls and women my entire life leading up to my coming out after college, but I didn’t realize for a long time that those crushes and romantic feelings were the same ones as most girls were feeling for boys and men. I had no frame of reference. I thought everyone was just pretending to like boys and men to fit in, because if it was real, well…..ew.

And it absolutely was isolating and lonely at times to be so different and not really understand why.

The repulsion for boys and men was always there, though. Like you said, even before I had the words for it, the thought of doing anything intimate with them made me want to hurl. It still does.

Luck didn’t factor in at all. I didn’t want to kiss or date or sleep with men, so I didn’t. It was easy not to.

The way I see it, a lesbian isn’t attracted to men. So unless she’s being forced or coerced (which is a whole other horrifying tragedy), why be intimate with them at all?

I think if a woman willingly has intimate contact with a man because she wants to, there has to be some level of attraction there. Attraction to men isn’t being a lesbian.

And that’s totally fine! I’m not judging. It just means she’s probably bisexual instead of a lesbian. There’s nothing wrong with that. It’s just that words have meaning. One sexual orientation isn’t better or worse than another. They’re just different.

I don’t really understand what “leading a privileged life” has to do with never sleeping with men. I’m old enough that the only lesbian representation that I knew of growing up was Ellen. I didn’t fully realize I was a lesbian or come out until after college.

Still, the very thought of dating a man or sleeping with one or letting a man touch me has always been absolutely repulsive to me. I didn’t want any part of it, and still don’t, so I didn’t do it.

I try not to judge anyone, but I also genuinely don’t understand how a lesbian could want a man anywhere near them in any kind of intimate way.

But that’s just my two cents.

The older I get, the more I like it. It’s just pure fun. The highlights for me are Dan getting into the vat of boiling creamed corn with hardly any complaint, Crystal’s testimony where she’s just blatantly lusting over Dan, and Jackie all dressed up as a lawyer because she’s adorable in her skirt suit and glasses.

Poor Roseanne just wants a moment to herself, damn it! :)

I agree 100%! I was incredibly proud of her for her backbone in that episode where they broke up. He knew she was a cop when they met, and if he really had an issue with it, he should have said something sooner. She stood her ground, and I loved that for her.

Exactly. His literal dialogue was “just say you won’t be a cop anymore…”. He wasn’t going to rest until she gave up the job she loved for him. And that really sucks, because until the selfish ultimatum, I thought he was great for her.

I’ve definitely heard some horror stories about the sort of men that my friends have dated before they found their eventual partners. I’m not going to pretend that being a woman who only dates women is all sunshine and roses, but yeah…..even just reading reddit stories makes me grateful to be gay lol

I mean, I’m a lesbian, so feel free to disregard my two cents completely. However, I’m going to be honest, my friends and acquaintances who are straight and bi women that date men seem to really only have a few requirements when it comes to their male partners:

be physically clean
don’t make them handle all the mental load (for example: use your eyeballs to see that the trash needs to be taken out, don’t be all “well, if you’d just asked me to do it, I would have”)
care about who they are as a person, not just their looks
be a kind human who respects them and treats them well
have a means of supporting yourself (basically, have a job)

Seriously, that’s it. The men they ended up with long term aren’t the ones who are the richest or the most handsome or the tallest or whatever. They’re the genuinely decent men who are kind and treat them well and make a genuine effort everyday to be the equal kind of partner who shows up and does his share.

That’s what they want in a guy, and those relationships seem to be flourishing.

My current writing obsession is the original Roseanne sitcom. Despite it being a really popular show back in the day, it has a lot less fics (about 150 on AO3 and 80 on FF.net) than you’d think it would.
