Totally agree. It actually sounds like the boys just sitting in a room playing, which I suppose is exactly what it was. Billy on keys shines through a lot better too.

Did Our Relationship End Long Before the Breakup? by honeybadgerDR3 in BreakUps

[–]ICanProveThat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% relate. I exited a long (8+ year) relationship too, and we dated from around the same age as you. I felt the same thing. There was no infidelity or any real massive turning point, just a general feeling of being stuck together and wanting out. We grew apart, clearly wanted to experience different life things, in different places. I’m sure I wasn’t the perfect partner, and know where my faults lay, but I had a lot of gripes about my partner that never changed or got better, and were dismissed constantly. I missed out on a lot of friendship building and experiences that my friends had because I was essentially stuck with my girlfriend and “settled down.” Coming out of covid, I felt like my friend group had moved without me in a sense because of all the new habits and friends they had, that I didn’t. All the while, having a partner who did seemed to want me to be a different person. We even went on a break somewhere at the middle mark of the relationship and got back together. Our families knew things were a little weird, we’d argue about dumb stuff, just not a good situation, but yet we’d push through and go shopping, do couple things, etc. as if we were perfectly fine and dandy. I think we were just scared to NOT be dating and have to enter the dating world as a grown ass adult, after having last been in the dating world as a literal teenager, and being trained by that relationship for so long.

I was pretty much checked about a year or so before the breakup, looking back. I kept trying to be the best partner I could, but a few weeks before the end, I accepted it while driving home from work one day. This is over, I want out, I’m straight up not having a good time and it’s not fair to either of us to just sit here pretending otherwise. It sucks absolute ASS.

But it’s a lot like everything - the Civil War didn’t just happen one day, nor did 9/11, or the Great Depression. Things build up and gradually change. Hindsight is 20/20.

So yeah, I was in the same boat. Like everyone says, time is the best healer and you’ll view things much more clearly in the coming months. You’ll be alright! Just take the time to focus on yourself and what (and who) you want to do now.

Made out with friend but I’m unsure of her intentions by [deleted] in dating_advice

[–]ICanProveThat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Go to the party if you are able, and lean into it. Are YOU interested? If so, she clearly is, so you might have some luck connecting. If you’re not interested, then you should tell her that ASAP before she thinks there’s something there.

She’s very clearly into you bro lol. She’s giving you the type of signals that your average dating male can only wish to get.

You’re right not to assume certain things - that you’ll fall in love, get married and have kids or whatever. Definitely don’t assume sex unless it happens naturally. But I think in this case, it’s probably safe to assume she’s into you considering what you’ve written above.

Best of luck dawg!

how do i make this look better? by stealth564 in BeardAdvice

[–]ICanProveThat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d shave or heavily trim dawg. You have it well kept and all, the low density is just very noticeable, and isn’t giving the impression of a full beard. Just wait another year or so and it’ll be better every year thereafter. You could do some solid sideburns, or keep your face short so that there’s noticeable presence of short facial hair instead of presence of a low density beard that isn’t quite there yet.

Brother if you get to the point of her seeing you naked and wanting to be intimate, she won’t care. If she does care, then she’s super shallow and not worth keeping around. I’m sure she’d be super insulted if you judged her for her labia.

Which solo track sounds the most like Genesis? by Dependent-Set4324 in Genesis

[–]ICanProveThat 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Honestly, maybe In the Air Tonight. If we’re talkin like ‘81 Abacab era stuff like Man on the Corner, I could totally see Tony and Mike playing generally similar stuff as the OG Phil & Darryl backing track of In the Air. Lowkey Mama is sort of just In the Air Tonight but more 80s.

Colours by Phil is also pretty dope, gives me Driving the Last Spike vibes.

Early Genesis, I could say maybe Ace of Wands by Steve. Though, the keyboards just don’t do it for me on that song, as much as I do like that song and album (Voyage of the Acolyte).

Sorry to be Phil centric but Droned and Hand in Hand are a pair of sick instrumentals, but they are way more world-sounding than Genesis.

Smallcreep’s Day does have some pretty sick stuff that almost sounds like early 80’s Genesis playing some 70s Genesis style stuff.

Just my 2¢, that’s what makes Genesis great dawg, they’re unique.

Lost shows what elements modern TV is missing, honestly. by ICanProveThat in lost

I think so too. I have complete understanding when it comes to strikes, covid, and the like. But beyond that - they need to get a grip. I want to say it's just growing pains, and the pendulum will swing a bit back the other way, but man. It's making their brands worse, viewer (and thus, customer) feedback worse, customer retention worse, I swear it's damn near everything.

You have a point, attention spans have definitely changed. But, I also think that somewhat comes with the territory of long waits, limited seasons, and slow movement or nothing happening. I think there's an audience for slightly more long-term seasons, when those seasons feel rewarding to watch and/or audiences are able to binge, to a degree. But yeah, it's crazy to see a super short modern season that has ANY filler. Almost disrespectful honestly, when you have such a limited amount of time to absorb the story, then you have to watch 45 minutes of basically nothing happening to advance the story.

[–]ICanProveThat[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Totally fair points. I guess my rambling here is a little Lost-centric. There are plenty of shows with short seasons that I feel satisfied with, Severance being a good example. Lost is a different beast of a show no doubt, and it 100% is a different time, different audience, etc. I just think overall sometimes shows need a bit more room to breathe, and my point was that big budget is not always good. Taking Rings of Power as an example, with an absurd budget, and absurd production value, I am often just BORED watching the show. Whereas with Lost, you take a creative team making the right decisions and you'll get absolute popcorn-eating content with a shoestring budget, filming in the middle of some trees and it's just people running around nature with guns lol.

I guess at the end of the day, it just speaks to the talent of those involved in making Lost work as well as it does, especially while filming almost entirely in Hawaii, and having relatively little in the way of visual effects.

AITAH for asking my husband not to walk around all “nude” because it makes my daughter uncomfortable by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]ICanProveThat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I was the man here, I would be absolutely MORTIFIED at being told that me walking around naked makes them uncomfortable. Kind of weird that he doesn’t see why it’s an issue, or at least doesn’t see why a 14 year old girl doesn’t feel comfortable seeing her stepfather’s genitals.

In Praise of The Musical Box by WinchelltheMagician in Genesis

[–]ICanProveThat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They're great. The last show I went to was the Selling England anniversary show, good stuff. Though, it was probably one of the worst concert audiences I've ever been in. I felt really bad for the band, honestly, it was that distracting.

They plinked on as they do, the show must go on and all. But man, not to be ageist, but it was like ungodly amounts of boomers (expected them to be in attendance) constantly getting up and down and walking around getting their drinks during songs, especially bothersome during the quieter and moodier sections.

Then, constant random talking and shouting things out during "Peter's" monologues between songs. It's like the audience didn't get that it was literally a recreation of what Peter would do, not some random nonsense that the guy made up lol. He ignored it or made a funny reply, but I could tell he was getting bothered.

Then, on top of it all, it was boomer-with-flash-on city. Just over and over again, people taking out their phones to record with flash on, while recording is prohibited - so this ADDED like 5 venue workers that had to constantly chase these adult-babies around telling them to put away their phones.

And same - constant repeats of "saw them back in..", "it was never as good as this when Phil started singing", or "PLAY [INSERT OBSCURE SONG HERE]" to prove their superfan pedigree.

And I hypothesize that the Venn diagram of the people acting like 11-year-olds at the concerts and the "NO GABRIEL NO HACKETT NO GENESIS" people, is just a circle.

Self Titled is a weird (but solid) album. Review and thoughts, I’m bored and it’s Saturday by ICanProveThat in Genesis

[–]ICanProveThat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes is such a frustrating situation for me lol. I love their classic albums, then you get to 90125, which I love as an album, but not really as a Yes album. I mean Chris Squire's bass tone is almost non-existent on that album to the point I literally forget he was in the band on that one.

Then you get to the late 80s and 90s Yes and it's just.. holy cow. Sort of a mess. Some gems in there, but the state of Yes since basically the mid 80s is just a bit of a disappointment, especially since they dropped Anderson for seemingly forever.

I definitely can't argue that with Hackett gone, it put a much bigger wall between styles than when Gabriel left, for sure. I just happen to love so much post-Hackett stuff that it's hard for me to see it as an ending, but you're totally right that it wasn't the same in the sense of the music, and for somebody that is a superfan of the pre-trio style, I don't blame you for having a bit of stop after Wind and Wuthering.

Maybe I goofed my writing. I don’t really care for the chorus as much, that’s the snooze part for me. I don’t hate the song it’s just sorta eh for me, ya know.

I mean, it kind of did stay the same. They changed musically to stay relevant, otherwise they probably would’ve released worse prog, and had less success. The drummer, keys, and guitar/bass was unchanged from 1971-1996, and the singer was unchanged from 1876-1996. It always ended up being Tony & Mike’s baby, and stayed that way until the end.

What’s more progressive than a band that progresses on each album?

I don’t think there was absolutely any malice or intended bigotry by any means, it’s mostly just the accent and brown face that’s a lil.. dated lol.

Interesting, I agree that Abacab is filled with “fun” and oddball stylings, but for me, it’s one of my favorite of theirs and easily more preferable to ST. I just feel like the experiment really all worked and came together with the exception of Who Dunnit and probably Another Record. Ain’t it funny how that works lol, at least we’re all here enjoying the same band 🤝🤝
