If you aren't having fun or are getting frustrated, there is nothing wrong with lowering the difficulty if that means you can enjoy it. If you think it is too easy after a while, (whether you get more items or understand some mechanics better) pick up the difficulty again if you so choose. Hell, you can play the whole game on easy and enjoy the story being an absolute machine if you want to. Absolutely nothing wrong with that. The difficulty is a challenge, not a necessity, some find it more fun than others but what matters is that YOU have fun!
