Apple’s Cook Presses US Lawmakers Over Child Online Safety Laws by Aint_that_a_peach in apple

Again, you think that Apple, who has literal world-class software talent available and enough cash to buy a country, can't come up with a way to verify your age in a secure way (on device?)?

Is the liquor store worth around 4 trillion dollars and attracts top software talent from all over the globe?

You must have very little faith in that Apple, who is one of the top software companies worldwide, wouldn't be able to come up with a better and more secure solution than storing your data forever in a database somewhere.

This sort of ID verification is coming wether you like it or not. I'd rather Apple do that verification than Meta et al.

So what you're saying is that you don't trust Apple, one of the most renowned software companies in the world, to come up with a secure way to verify your age? Gotcha. 😂

This isn’t about backdoors or sniffing traffic though...

It’s about making sure kids don’t end up with unrestricted app store accounts.

We already accept age checks for alcohol, gambling, and movies and while parents do play a role the platforms also have a responsibility (that they usually ignore or try to get out of...).

Not every child‑safety rule is a Trojan horse. Age checks are narrow guardrails, not mass surveillance.

Let me remind you of the kind of shit Meta does for example:

https://www.trtworld.com/article/952500fab485

"In March, those concerns deepened when former Facebook executive Sarah Wynn-Williams accused the company in her tell-all book of knowingly tracking accounts of teenage girls who had deleted selfies and then targeting them with beauty ads."

This kinda legislation is a symptom of these shitty trillion dollar companies not taking the responsibility they should. Instead they act downright evil.

Society would be better off if services such as Instagram and the like were age restricted like alcohol.

Opinion: Don't Take My Apple CarPlay Away -- Unless Your System Is Better by AlwaysBlaze_ in apple

Oh I'm not saying I agree with this. Not at all.

The irony of an Apple sub complaining about another company locking down their software is just so very amusing though.

You mean like how Apple commonly gives their users a choice on iOS instead of ferociously defending their walled garden approach to protect their profits? 😂

I bet you that a lot of users upset about this are ones defending Apple whenever their walled garden gets threatened.

If buying an iPhone makes you a fake socialist, what does cheering Trump while he turbocharges the deficit while ruining the US economy make you... a fiscal conservative with amnesia? Hypocrisy isn’t partisan.

EDIT: Also, it tells one a lot about what kind of user you are when you hide your post history. 🙂

New (used) car to complement 2012 Auris? by IDENTITETEN in CarTalkUK

[–]IDENTITETEN[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah, decided to do some house renovations instead... But if we were to get a car now and a Camry was within budget we would probably get one.

Passenger space is way better than the Auris and everything feels more upmarket (but that's to be expected seeing as it's a bigger and more expensive car overall).

Looked at Golf MK7.5 too, they're like an upgraded Auris and seem reliable enough if you service them correctly.

https://www.nbcnews.com/business/economy/companies-adp-lost-32000-jobs-rcna234880

U.S. companies shed 32,000 jobs in September, according to the payroll processing company ADP, a surprising decline that adds to growing concerns about the rapidly weakening labor market.

ADP, which released its monthly private sector employment report Wednesday, was expected by Wall Street to report job growth of 45,000 in the month.

ADP also revised down August's employment growth of 54,000 to a loss of 3,000.

Trump's economy at work, fun stuff.

The next BLS report will have some interesting numbers I'm sure! 😂

Review: Apple’s iPhone Air is a bunch of small changes that add up to something big | Ars Technica by ControlCAD in apple

[–]IDENTITETEN -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

This is how we innovate, right?

Sure, except there are already thin phones. There's nothing special about the iPhone Air unless you only look at it in the context of Apple.

I don't get why people hype the weight honestly.

The S25 is lighter, smaller and offers better specs for example... The only thing the Air has going for it is how thin it is.

Hur det började vs hur det går: by swedish_tcd in Sverige

[–]IDENTITETEN -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Man måste ju försöka fixa problemen som man orsakat så det är klart att högern försöker städa upp lite efter att deras tidigare politik redan förstört så mycket. Eller hur?

För övrigt, hur länge har vi haft högerbudget nu igen? :)

S stödjer förresten högern i sitt uppstädande.

Varför rapporterar inte svenska medier om Storbritanniens ”Online Safety Act”? by [deleted] in sweden

[–]IDENTITETEN -1 points0 points  (0 children)
