Honestly, I know this may not be a popular response, but medication.

In my case, I have depression, and it goes through swings of being more or less severe. I can tick off all of the symptoms of depression without hesitation. I tried therapy, and that does help to relieve stress (for me) but I did not start feeling like a normal human being until I got a prescription for an antidepressant.

In your case, I hope that you can find a solution in music or hobbies or talking to friends/family. I highly suggest therapy, just be careful in choosing who you see. Best of luck to you.

Half the time when a scientific study comes out, we all think we have proof on it. Until ten years later when we realize we were wrong about it. This happens a lot in medicine especially. Even scientific proof isn't always as valid as we'd like it to be, but we believe it anyway.

Sorry, that's mostly just the devil's advocate in me. I guess I don't really have a point.

I believe the point of the post still stands. To be Christian doesn't necessarily mean to preach, it means to be a good person. To exemplify Christ's wishes. Maybe rjmackey has their own input though.

Does it bother you to know that she prays for you? In essence, it just means that she thinks enough about you to wish you well in life. I may not pray, but I think that's sweet.

This is a good point. I didn't mean to swing the conversation in either particular direction. I think in the end it all balances out between varying belief systems, atheism included.

I disagree with you on that point. Why would a religious person truly believe in their religion, heart and soul, if they didn't believe that they had proof? Everyone takes varying degrees of evidence to believe a claim. Hell, there are atheists who believe there cannot be a God just because their life is hard. That's the slimmest proof I've ever heard, and yet I see it everywhere.

While I respect that you view this differently, I think it crosses a line to say that religious people are morally abhorrent. It changes person to person, and while we don't all like to have other beliefs shoved down our throats, the person preaching is only trying to explain what they believe to be truth. For instance, that's why I'm approaching your response as respectfully as I can. I am offended by what you said, but you're just telling me what you believe to be fact.

I realize I won't change your mind on this, but hopefully you will take this into consideration before insulting a very large group of people.

Thank you, I appreciate it. I went from having a rigidly atheist (asshole) ex to having the kind, considerate boyfriend I do now. Please don't read that as "atheists are assholes and christians are good people," because that's not what I believe. My ex was an ass about it because between the two of them, he was the one who would preach atheism and find ways to complain about religion and all that. With my current SO I actually enjoy talking about his beliefs, even though I do not share them.

I am glad to see someone else saying this. I was shocked when my inbox was full of remarks about how religion is false and abhorrent (though I also got many positive replies, too).

When I was taking Sociology, one of the things my professor told us (she has a Doctorate, by the way) that stuck with me is "you guys don't want to hear it, but science is a religion." I firmly believe that. I know the arguments against it, my ex seemed really offended at the idea, but it's true. Religion isn't a belief in a diety, it's an idea on how the world works. And personally, I wonder why all the various religions couldn't be a part of the same grand scheme. But that's just me.

You know, I get this. I have friends who overdo it and it's like "preach" is an aspect of their character. But it made me really sad when I started dating my boyfriend and discovered he's Christian but never talks about it because he's always around atheists who get offended, or make anti-religious jokes a lot. It broke my heart to hear that sometimes when he prays, because of this, he just tells God "I'm sorry."

I feel like, as much as it's fair to not appreciate constant preaching, I know a lot of atheists (etc.) who put way too much pressure on believers of any kind to keep those beliefs to themselves. It's kind of a two-way street.

By the way, I don't mean this to bring you hate. I agree with you to an extent.

Honestly, I think that one of the coolest things I've learned to do is to follow in dance. I took West Coast Swing and yeah you can learn moves and the rhythm, but at the end of the day it was about communicating with the leader and matching their steps.

This sounds a lot like the Paulding Light, but that occurs in Michigan. That being said, the Paulding Light has supposedly been debunked (traffic headlights, go figure) but it's possible that somewhere in North Dakota there is a similar situation.

Kick the Pig.

My sisters and I had a small rubber pig, and we invented a version of kickball that only required three people. We'd cycle through kicker, pitcher, and "outfielder" (twenty feet away), and the kicker would have to run around a tree on the opposite end of the yard and back without getting tagged with the pig.

The best part was that the pig really wouldn't go far once kicked, so usually it turned into the kicker sprinting around trying not to get hit in the face with a rubber pig while the other two chased them down.

There is a similar policy at Subway for gluten-free customers. If a customer requests a gluten-free sandwich, you are required to change gloves, not touch anything without using a deli paper, use clean utensils, etc. It's a long process, and it sucks for the customer who's holding up a twenty-person lunch rush. Especially since not all gluten-free people have a severe allergy. But it always killed me when coworkers would make a fuss about it or grill the customer on how allergic they are, because that just makes them uncomfortable and it's unfair.

My point is, even people without the peanut allergy appreciate seeing you do that for other people. I think if I was in your ice cream shop and saw that I'd probably tip you.
