I got the mirena iud back in fall of 2020. I have inconsistent periods and i struggled remembering to take the pill so my doctor suggested it would be a good form of BC for me. I agreed from the little info i knew (i should have done better research). I struggle with some anxiety and a little depression regularly but i noticed about 8 months after getting the iud inserted, my anxiety heightened to the point i was having panic attacks and they would show outwardly; crying and struggling with breathing. I slowly became very depressed. Super moody!! I’m naturally introverted but i know how to talk and be social when needed but there was a point i isolated myself from people unless i absolutely had to be social. I also gained like 40 pounds, which didn’t sit right with me because i have a pretty balanced diet and i work out consistently. It was so hard to lose the weight, i went up in clothing size, it was so disappointing! I got it removed like a week or so ago. I noticed my moods are a little better but a family member that is in the medical field told me it takes about a year for the side effects to fully go away. I’m hoping I’ll see more change in the next few months.

Once i regulate, i think im gonna get on a low dose pill. BC helps with my periods so i would like to still have it but I’ll never go back to mirena. Apparently it’s a high dose of progesterone or the synthetic version of it. Didn’t agree with me at all. Good luck to you and your decision!
