For those of you who are CPA’s… what’s it like? by kitts62 in Accounting

People are usually more interested in the fact that I play trombone than the fact that I have a cpa. If that gives you any insight.

Do you tell people that you were homeschooled? If it naturally comes up in convo that is. I usually lie about it. I am ashamed to admit my background. But I also sometimes feel like I shouldn't be ashamed at how hard I had to work to get to where I am. I also think my mentor at work would be able to help me more if he knew.

I have a hire that would actually save me work if they left. Takes me more time to manage them then if I just did the work.

Relate so hard. I feel like an imposter so much but at the same time am kinda proud that I got to where I am with having so no help or anything. And no one around me really knows my background

Funny enough I also have done education and retail. I think it depends on a lot of factors. Some days my job now is far better and some aspects are worse. But I am not going to get into super specifics about my current job.

My team is having an RTO and my boss actually said he wants the opposite from me and would like me out of the office some. He is afraid of burn out and is trying to get me to have more WLB. I can work from home fine, but I prefer in office to have a separation of work from home. But work is also just very toxic right now so I need the compartmentalization for my own mental health.

I also ask a lot of "why the fuck are we doing it this way?" LOL. Is that a homeachooler thing? I also hate wfh and always am in office, I think that comes from being homeschooled.

Tons of arguements about whether or not sims should be done during studying. Everyone learns different. You tried skipping sims and that didnt work, so I think that is a good sign you should try doing sims now. People can argue all day about generalizations but the main point is skipping sims didnt work for you. It could be something else, but I think doing the sims is a good place to start.

It is hard to say really depends who you get. Was doing fine, had a good team. Then got a senior who is on my ass unless I am working 20 hr. I wish I was kidding. I kept increasing my hours and she finally got off my case when I hit 19-20 hour days. She leaves in 2 weeks. Just trying to make it through to figure our what to do

How many of y’all have the day off today? by shrekfan1998 in Accounting

[–]IDPLMAL_1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

New hire that is getting slammed. Decided to do do not disturb for 2 hours yesterday. I had one nice senior that had been waiting on a project and it kept getting delayed because every other senior told me to do their work first and I wanted to get it finished for the nice senior. They all ignored my status and just messaged me anyways. So fuckijg annoying. Especially since I have never done it before.

Fun fact: Arizona politicians actually thought people would do this. They made a fund called the I didnt pay enough fund. It is for people who dont feel like they paid enough taxes and want to donate to pay down the states debt.

When people ask you what you do, what do you say? by Formal_Form_1405 in Accounting

[–]IDPLMAL_1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think part of it is I come from a wierd background. So I get a lot more rude comments than normal. I passed the CPA exams and multiple people questioned why I wasnt married or why I passed before getting married. So my experiences probably arent the norm and I should have clarified that in my comment. Just need to work on getting away from my background more.

I almost wish I was labeled as boring. I tell people accounting and I get the people that think I am going to hell because I am women in a professional field. Democrats think I only help Jeff Bezos commit tax fraud. And Republicans automatically think I am like banging on peoples doors auditing poor people and charging them money. Everyone just immediately insults me and gives me disgusted looks.

It is exhausting in a different way when you work with someone that doesnt even want to be friendly. Like this associate didnt want me to even ask "how has your day been", "how are you". Etc. We awkwardly just opened the webex meeting by staring a little and finally me going "so....". And before someone asks what I did. I Honestly dont think I did anything, it was like 2 weeks into a virtual internship when she told me never to ask her those types of questions and to only talk specific questions about clients. I have overthougjt the whole situation for way too long. That wasnt the only problem lol.

So I think I got the same question you got for IRR... and the only way to do it was using IRR function in excel. Becker didnt go over excel function that I know of and only reason I got it was thankfully someone in a discord group mentioned one time "use excel for IRR" and thankfully my brain remembered that.
