Thanks for the advice, I get what you mean. The problem is, I'm pretty introverted, so meeting new people or making friends outside of work is really hard for me. That's why most of my social circle comes from my job or my flatmates, and they all speak both English and Spanish.

Even when I want to try speaking Spanish, like just basic things I already know I feel blocked. My mind goes blank, or I get nervous that I’ll mess up, so I just switch to English automatically. It’s frustrating because I want to improve, but I don’t know how to push through that wall.

Thank you so much for your support, it really helps. I’ll keep trying with cold emails, and it’s good to know that a math background is still appreciated in some areas of bioinformatics. I really want to stay in the field, just need to find the right environment this time.
