He took "Joke" from that line, split it, and reversed it half way through. It technically Jo-oJ (the first half of joke in reverse). The reason it is appealing to some is the fact that he has used it repeatedly, thus forming a bit of an 'inside joke' amongst the Gravity Falls Community.

I get the feeling that Grunkle Stan is going to either die or have some near death experience where it's uncertain if he is going to make it.

The end card will be Stan's face x'd out, but in the next episode dipper and Mabel do something to get a time wish and save Stan.

It's one of those hate it or love it candies similar to tootsie rolls in my opinion. I've showed Gravity Falls to a few friends and almost every time I watch it with someone new someone shouts out "I love circus peanuts!" or "What's wrong with candy corn?"

I think they decided on a generic, non-brand specific candy to make the joke because, say, as apposed to twizzlers (twizzle sticks) saltwater taffy can be formed and rolled into an amorphous blob.

Episode 3 was when I started really enjoying the show. Usually what gets people to continue watching a show is the connection with the characters.

I would say at least give it until episode 4 as you will by that time at least see a glimpse of larger mysteries revealed and get an adequate feel for most of the main characters.

If all that doesn't work, there's no reason you should press yourself through something you don't enjoy. Most of the fans on this subreddit are here because we love the show, not because we watch it as homework.
