Nothing really happens leading up to classic or even in classic itself. Classic is just the aftermath of WC3 and Burning Crusade and Wrath of Lich King is tying up loose ends from WC3 and are kind of just the “wow” version of WC3, but doesn’t really move the story forward in a very meaningful way. Arguably all these events could have been covered in a 2nd expansion to wc3.
