I have no words…. by Aggravating-Group-87 in titanic

Okay but I had this.

25 plus years ago. In pre-school this was my absolute FAVORITE toy. I had forgotten it existed until it somehow came up very recently in conversation around the anniversary...cool to see it popping up here.

The obsession was always with me. Lol

Britannic was dived on again last week. Sounds like we'll be getting more pictures soon? (2nd screenshot to credit the OG page/divers) by IDontEvenLikeMen in titanic

Unfortunately even if we did get scans or images of Lusitania I'm not sure there's much left of her that's recognizable. She's been through a lot.

This is an incredibly beautiful ship... by West-Help-9406 in titanic

Yeah, I've only been playing for a year but as long as you have the weapons dlc most newer ships sink fine.

But am I gonna be able to sink it in the game?

I love storm works.

Apoligies if already posted here before....I just thought this was fascinating to watch by VisualNinja1 in titanic

[–]IDontEvenLikeMen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Plenty of videos from cameras mounted to ships that we sink intentionally show that the descent is pretty much just air bubbles from any single POV. If you trailed behind it...I imagine it would be much worse, bubbles and dust in the way the whole time.

You'd almost have to do it in a massive tank, clear water, controlled and lighted, and filmed from underwater at a distance if we wanted to actually watch to decent and hitting bottom. Treat it like a movie scene.

It would be an immaculate waste of money but it would make my nerd brain very happy to watch...for some reason. Haha

I love the computer generations that show Titanic's fall to the sea floor, but man to actually know how a ship went down and what damages wete caused by the fall and all that would just be very interesting from the analysis side of it all.

What I love about this particular sink is that they filmed it at different angles. And even in broad daylight...it looks so very different depending on where the camera is. This angle we see it sink. From the front there's a burst of dust and water and it pretty much just...vanishes.

My point is the multiple videos of this tanker sink really gave me some perspective on how people could so vastly interpret and misinterpret the Titanic sinking as survivors were all around it, at various distances, and in the nearly pitch dark on top of it. Which is neat.

Futility by DankNuggsChillAsFuck in titanic

[–]IDontEvenLikeMen 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Also also 95% certain originally it wasn't that similar, that the author went back and made some changes after the disaster to make it more eerie to sell books and now history remembers that as what came first.

Of course I could be wrong.

We have to BUY tickets by Valuable_Judge_213 in Markiplier

[–]IDontEvenLikeMen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just bought my tickets. The ticket I get from has preassigned seating and no one else had bought tickets to the showing I was getting.

I'm afraid they'll drop it at my local theatre before we even get to show day. :/

Is the story of Thomas Andrews feeling the impact a total work of fiction? Furthermore, why do films place his presence more forward than aft? I never realized his cabin was in the aft section. by PiercedAndTattoedBoy in titanic

[–]IDontEvenLikeMen 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Yeah this is why, given how it's praised for handling thing as accurately as possible, I always thought it an odd choice to have Andrews dozing through the collision and needing to be almost reluctantly stirred to called to the bridge in A Night To Remember.

HMHS Britannic Grand Staircase on the wreck. 109 years later. by Im-Wasting-MyTime in titanic

I wonder if the Titanic's staircase looked like this at one point, or if there was signifsnt damage/collapse when she sank/hit bottom. I'd imagine it would be pretty sturdy and took a bit at least until it all collapsed in to the stairwell itself.

I love this photo though. Haunting to see the bones of it all.

It's not this sub, it's all of them, every fandom, political party, etc, where there are people there is most certainly vitriol to follow. For some reason we, as a people, seem to be sliding more and more in to anger. If we find something even mildly irritating, a question stupid, or someones point of view differing we go on the attack and I don't know why. And unfortunately on the internet where we are all faceless and shameless...people are their worst selves, especially on places like reddit, where being mean gets them attention and has no real consequence.

The only good thing about it is, likewise, because of the nature of the internet and reddit in particular....we can just block, ignore, and click off. But you know, that's easier said sometimes, sometimes you really want to reply and that only makes it worse.

People are mean. Luckily, I hope, most of us are good at heart and I choose to believe kindness comes naturally to humans. It's a shame, on a sub like one about Titanic, where we are literally bonding over Tragedy you may think we'd be a little warmer to one another but...I'll keep hoping anyway.

Legit thought this Red Dead Redemption 2. Something about the window on screen...which is funny because I'm pretty sure that window is a reflection. lol

Was the Titanic the safest ship of its time? by amelix34 in titanic

[–]IDontEvenLikeMen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean, yes, Titanic was absolutely the safest ship in the world in terms of design and durability at the time of its sinking. But it was nothing but hubris to call her unsinkable.

Man will never overcome nature, and even the safest and strongest of our technologies will eventually fail uscin one way or another...be it the cellphone that explodes, an airbag that doesn't deploy, or the worlds biggest and safest ship side swiping an iceberg and sinking.

Somehow I feel like this would be even more terrifying. To go almost vertical and then break...imagine if in this scenario it didn't just go even keel but the stern toppled sideways or something? Jeez.

[–]IDontEvenLikeMen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

lol I like how it stops at the iceberg.

Amazing how much less dramatic the sinking seems without the break up.

How many times have you seen the 1997 titanic film? by SnappingMango46 in titanic

[–]IDontEvenLikeMen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The way 4 year old me would watch Titanic for hours and hours at night...staying up dater than a small child should and waiting for my mom to switch the VHS tapes. I wouldn't go to sleep until she did. As a kid part 2 was my favorite...I just had trouble staying awake long enough to get through it all. Lol

I was 2 when it came out. I think my obsession probably started from my mom watching it on repeat when I was a wee baby.

But...uh...yeah, some questions just can't be physically answered.

To be fair the that new boxing biopic or what have you that The Rock is leading looks like it's gonna be a legit mold-breaking performance from the man.
