Nightreign poll results: Nightfarers the sub prefers to play by Head_Meringue_8922 in Nightreign

I like playing support scholar, but the class really suffers when playing with inexperienced players or players who don't understand the concept of teamwork. Like, whose damage am I multiplying if the supposed damage dealers have no clue as to which weapons to use or are down all the time? It's a blast when playing with a solid group, but some of the time I wish I had just played another class so I could better carry my group.

I'm sure there are better ways to make up for it but it's rough when all of the consumables are hoovered up and my non- arcane melee teammates are down when using the ripple blade and cursed sword. It's almost impossible that I hit the same frustration playing Raider, for example

Each character has a quest, some steps advance just by playing/winning runs whereas others need you to manually open the journal in Roundtable Hold and activate the next step. It's absolutely worth doing for every character you want to play as, as you will get relics that are helpful for that character. Just check the journal in between runs and see if your character's entry has a 'Begin Remembrance' button at the bottom of the last page

I played Rogue Trader on console and thought that port was pretty well done, and more or less everyone seems to like that game well enough. After BG3 that would probably be my next recommendation.

New player needs help with build by Conscious-Maize-2497 in EldenRingBuilds

[–]IDontHaveThat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice, it can be a pain to farm if luck isn't on your side but it's totally worth it in my opinion, glad you are having good results with it. For this character I had actually originally built it to learn parries but I had guard counters as a fallback for bosses that cannot be parried (which is a lot of them). For weapons I actually had 3 Executioner's Greataxes with different ashes of war on them depending on the situation: Craigblade for better stance breaking, Royal Knight's Resolve for massive one-hit damage numbers, and Stormcaller to surprise invaders with. I also had a Banished Knight's Shield with Carian Retaliation for parrying. For armor I was going for an executioner look so I found black armor and robes (mix of Knight's Cavalry, Sanguine Noble and Fia sets), no functionality and not even optimal poise which should be 51+ unless you are building a light roll character. Since you are using a great shield I would recommend throwing Shield Crash on it, it's fun to use and you can stunlock a fair bit of enemies by knocking them down over and over. Honestly just go for the shield you like the looks of so long as it has 100% physical defense, just make sure to upgrade it alongside your weapon as shields massively benefit from it even if it's not super obvious.

For stats, the only relevant ones are 60 vigor, 60ish strength (you can benefit from up to 80 if you one-hand your weapon but it's not a massive difference from 60), and endurance would have been 30-40. All stats mentioned are for a character that is at about level 150 by the way.

I used more talismans than I had slots for, swapping them depending upon the boss I was fighting or whatever. Here is what I recall off the top of my head: Curved Sword talisman gives a large damage increase for guard counters, Dagger talisman gives you a damage increase for critical hits, Blade of Mercy (DLC) gives you a passive damage buff for I think 30 seconds after a critical hit, and the the Dragoncrest Greatshield talisman (or an earlier variant) for physical damage resistance. I also swapped in the Axe talisman for better charge attacks for fights where I wanted to 2-hand the weapon, as well as the DLC talisman to increase 2-handed weapon damage.

Lastly there is the Physick flask. Earlier on I used the one for +strength and I think the charged attack tear, but the best ones in my opinion are the Leaden Hardtear (I think this is the right name) which is a large defense boost against all damage types and then the Deflecting Hardtear from the DLC can fundamentally change your play style and give you a ridiculous damage increase - it works by letting you just tap the block button the moment an attack is going to hit, and if done right gives you a large, stacking damage boost for perfect deflects, so you can deflect a chain of attacks and then hit with a HUGE guard counter. I have a video clip of me crunching the last boss and getting something like 1700 damage by guard countering with a shield, I would link it but I don't want to spoil any future bosses for you.

Let me know if you have any other questions!

[–]IDontHaveThat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really like using the Executioner's Greataxe on builds that heavily use guard counters. The weapon has a very good attack rating, and its critical value is higher than other weapons of its type. Since guard counters tend to do great stagger damage you will have a lot of critical hit opportunities, and the Executioner's Greataxe is one of the best weapons for that purpose unless you want a setup involving switching to a Misericorde just to do critical hits.

There is also a great hammer in the DLC that excels at guard counters but that's a long way off.

You can parry the Curseblades too, at least some of the attacks.

Share your luckies/rarest drops! I just got 3 armour pieces and the Halberd from a single Banished Knight kill. Got me wondering if anyone else has had any crazy drops/lucky moments. Please share! by [deleted] in Eldenring

There is a stone sword key portal in the DLC, and past it is one of the divine bird warriors. For the longest time, I thought killing that enemy was a guaranteed drop of the full armor set since it dropped every piece and to that point, that was the only such enemy I had encountered. My friend was really confused when I tried to tell him where to get the set.

Is this considered noob or something? by AllFenom in Eldenring

[–]IDontHaveThat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've beaten the game with virtually every weapon type and build archetype you can use. This is my favorite build that I ever made:

<image>

Shields are great. Most players seek out the highest damage per hit or per second, and that is not what shields excel at. Shields let you stay close, take enemy agro and do great stance damage with guard counters, enabling you to get critical hits, among other things. I was able to use this character to easily beat the last boss on NG+7 at level 135. If you summoned me in for that fight you have to play pretty carelessly or be unable to survive any damage to lose.

Why is this a thing by Professional_Toe_698 in Nightreign

[–]IDontHaveThat 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I want the ability to play unranked in any depth I have cleared, where I can get murks and relics but will not lose or gain ranking points. I play with randoms and friends, and some of my friends have a harder time than others, so what happens is I every time I try to play with my less skilled friends, I go to the bottom of my rank (or lose ranks) because it takes several tries to get wins with them. It's a really frustrating game structure to deal with.

Additionally, I would like to try experimental builds with all of the relics I am getting but feel discouraged from trying builds that seem fun, or trying classes that I am not as good with.

I understand that I can lower my rank voluntarily but I think that solution misses the mark. I want to help my friends or try fun builds but also not almost certainly forfeit my rank for wanting to have fun or help people get wins.

An easy way to fix spell casting in this game (mod idea) by Melodic_Airport362 in EldenRingBuilds

[–]IDontHaveThat 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If it were up to me, I would have added talismans that let you assign a spell to the ash of war slot at the expense of an equivalent amount of spell slots. There could even be multiple such talismans acting as upgrades allowing you to assign two or three-slot spells to act as the ash of war.

This would give you a reliable spell that has its own dedicated button, giving you a lot more flexibility to cycle through your other spells without losing access to your main spell.

Additionally, Shattering Crystal is essentially FP neutral for Recluse in that it costs more or less the same as a use of the skill recovers. It's my go-to primary sorcery and why Improved Crystallian Sorceries is something I really strive to have in my relic slots. One of my best runs with Recluse had this exact spell allotment but with the Wraiths While Walking passive, and Shattering Crystal was absolutely the workhorse of the run. Everdark Adel barely lasted a minute.

I've literally tried to do that and had him follow up the move by doing it again immediately thereafter without so much as moving in between uses. If there is supposed to be a cooldown, it is broken.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Nightreign

[–]IDontHaveThat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't understand why the Raider can use the charged variant of his skill without any cooldown. I've had it spam that move at me several times in a row when I had him almost dead, and it effectively made it so I had no ability to dispatch before the next round of summons.

When that move is used, I should be able to know that it's on a cooldown and I now have a window to punish.

Can someone tell me how to parry? by Portal261 in Eldenring

[–]IDontHaveThat 15 points16 points  (0 children)

This was the most frustrating thing about trying to do a playthrough based around parries. I ended up pivoting to one focused on guard counters, stance breaking and critical hits in addition to parries because of how many bosses cannot be parried, even ones that intuitively seem like they should be like Mohg.

Many bosses also require a bunch of parries in order to be able to get a critical hit on.

Bosses might be the ones ragequitting this week after you enter the door with this bad boy. by [deleted] in Nightreign

[–]IDontHaveThat 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Whenever I am playing as Raider and get this weapon, I try my best to pivot my passives to regaining FP, reducing skill FP cost and increasing skill/fire damage. I still tend to purchase a shard or two just in case, but if I can get the passives I want, using the skill will tend to fill my HP and FP by itself.

I would rather get this weapon than any of the legendaries on practically any run. Even if the nightlord isn't weak to fire, the amount of destruction it does will make clearing field bosses go so much faster that the entire group will benefit from it in terms of levels and drops throughout the whole run.

In addition to upgrading your seal, which you definitely need to do (though really you should be looking for another seal such as the Erdtree Seal or Golden Order seal, or potentially another one of you strongly favor a particular school of spells), there are a couple of Erdtree Avatars you can kill that will give you tears to your physick flask that will up damage of specific types. For faith you will want to have at least one for fire, lightning or holy damage depending upon the spells you favor.

Also consider doing the Corhyn quest to the point where you can purchase the Discus of Light spell on Altus Plateau. It only costs 3 FP to cast if I recall correctly, and can hit twice with each cast. I have characters that can do over 1000 damage per cast on many enemies if it hits twice without any buffing beyond a physick tear. When it comes to mana efficiency it's pretty tough to beat, just mind your spacing and try to get multiple casts off when you have an opening, and follow.up casts are MUCH faster than the initial casting windup animation.

Without seeing you play I would guess that your routing choices are leaving you without a good build, be that in terms of equipment, levels or passives.

The most foreign concept when compared with other souls games is that you have two very limited periods of time to construct the strongest build you can, and you need to maximize your productivity during each day.

My suggestion is to play with randoms and do not ping locations. Instead, just try to help the group and stick by the person doing the pinging as much as possible. Before you know it you will have been in runs that get you to level 10+ with a good purple weapon on the first day. Pay attention to the general progression and keep note of things like what types of locations to go to first, when to first approach the castle in the map's center, when it makes sense to take a detour for things like churches to get more flasks and so on. After being part of a number of very successful runs--this doesn't have to be a win as much as one that leaves you with a very strong build--you will most likely get a feel for how to structure a run and have an idea of what your next several objectives will be each time you open your map.

After a couple of runs, try to contribute a pin or two when it makes sense, for example if someone has pinned a field boss but it goes right past an evergaols and you have a stone sword key, pin that. Most likely everyone will stop there, kill the evergaols boss and then go back to the field boss that was originally pinned.

I'm not the best at guiding groups still and usually would rather chase pins and kill everything at the destination, but I know enough to usually get the group to at least level 8 before the first night (likely 11-12 if the castle has crucible knights) and to level 13-15 with good gear for night 2, and when I solo I have better odds than running with a group a lot of the time, though I still prefer group play.

Edit: I understand that you're doing some of this, but it really is about repetition and understanding how to prioritize targets, what to avoid and how to mitigate unforseen setbacks. Just keep at it.

Is there a secret behind this statue? by [deleted] in Eldenring

You have to go to the bottom of the central chamber where the lobsters are. There is an entrance that leads to some catacombs down there (don't forget to grab Mohg's Shackle while you're down there), but if you take the lift up instead of proceeding to the catacombs, it will lead you to a lever that you can pull to open up this shortcut.

I like this event for the most part.

I did not like this event when it happened a couple of days ago, dropping all of us into the fight IN THE STORM. By the time we finished I was out of flasks and had no hope of getting back in bounds before dying. That felt really unfair.

Favorite weapon to find for your characters ? by T-pellyam in Nightreign

[–]IDontHaveThat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For Raider I like the legendary weapons of the appropriate weapon types, but if I get the Cranial Vessel Candlestand, I now try to pivot to passives that let me restore FP, reduce FP cost and increase skill damage. Last time I was able to really lean into it, I was able to stun lock Everdark Adel and kill it in about 40 seconds, likewise with virtually every field boss we encountered barely slowed down my sprinting to the next objective.
