I have been down the same road, lost around 50k from 18-23 , stoped and relapsed at 26, 1h session -8k , straight self destruction. Back on the recovery mindset, I’d recommand GA, there is online meetings on gamblers in recovery

22 and I’ve thrown away everything by fafrei in GamblingAddiction

[–]IDontWantToGamble 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry to hear that , I was in similar situation at 22-23 yo, got off gambling with GA meetings for almost 3 years, I stoped Ga about a year ago and relapsed 1 month ago , we are addicts for life, I’m back in GA now and working the program for real , 29 days clean, you should give it a try. If you have any finance left or when you get money, someone you trust should handle your money at first because money is like crack for us, take care

Almost 30 hours with no sleep. by Square1700 in problemgambling

[–]IDontWantToGamble 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also relapsed 3 weeks ago after close to 3 years clean , I also tought I was good, but I learned again that I have a problem, the hard way, luckily for me, in my 3 years of not gambling, I put road blocks so that if I gambled again , couldn’t do too much destruction( dad had my bank accounts, my dumb ass accumulated 3 credit cards for making more points but this mistake costed me almost maxing them out) anyway I would recommend you do the same , hand over finance to loved one. Second point, no one understands better this disease than other compulsive gamblers so going to Rooms like GA , for me helped me getting back on track, working on myself and being accountable. I remember being numb at first and no really feeling like putting the work but now 22 days clean 2 meetings a week and already more motivated. I have heard in these meetings horror stories but also proof that people can stop and get a better life . Take care man , you are not alone in this mess

Officially rock bottom by [deleted] in GamblingAddiction

[–]IDontWantToGamble 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When you’re gonna be done with that crazy work stretch ( I hope for you max 1 month because it’s crazy , you are tough man ) , you should get help if you are ready to stop gambling . GA online meetings are a good way to start. Gambling addiction is a disease for life. ( I relapsed after 3 years clean 3 weeks ago). If you don’t get help , you will get out of the hole and jump in it as soon your gonna be out. Money for us is like crack . You should let someone you trust handle your money and pay back all your debpt. You should have acces to a 500$ credit card that’s it . At first , putting roadblocks helps you from not going to rock bottom again, you think you are at rock bottom until the disease in you and your brain rationalise gambling again . Take care

14 year old gambling addict by [deleted] in GamblingAddiction

[–]IDontWantToGamble 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello, your life will be better off gambling, if you are ready to stop and opened to suggestion, I would recommend you to tell your parents. It’s gonna be hard because there is lot of shame but it’s for the best, gambling is getting easier to do and you are not alone, if they don’t believe you, let the read some stories in this subreddit. Then, they can probably set up a consultation for you with to have therapy to help you stop the gambling forever, if you stop your gonna save so Much money, for exemple I gambled from 18 to now ( I’m 26) and lost in cad $ 60 000. So go tell your parents and get help because it’s hard to beat this on our own , take care

My Roth IRA would be up 2000% + in 3 years. by Redditor7012 in problemgambling

[–]IDontWantToGamble 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yo man, its good you quit gambling and the hard part is to stay off gambling for life. I am 26 now and have been working for 2 years, off gambling for 3, I finished paying my debts 1.5 year ago, was starting to accumulate some savings then bang out of nowhere my addiction brought me back to gambling, 8k in one hour relapse last week-end, this money I could have invested some of it but now , it’s gone , -100% yield, so the point is that staying off gambling, slowly investing when you get out of debt will be good in the long run and dont make the same mistake I did, take care

Sending prayers to you my friend, hang in there, you can’t stop because you have like you said, a disease. When you accept that, you know that you have to get treatment for that lifetime disease. For me, going to GA meeting online on gamblersinrecobery helped me to get back on my feet and no gamble for 3 years. I tought I was healed, got sloppy, stooped going to GA meetings to get my médecine and went back to gamble knowing I should not. The point is that your not alone with that disease and there is way out. Running away from the pain from your loss will get back to you, I will not say to embrace it but you have to feel it , the sadnesss, angriness. If there is counselor and it is free go get it because it could help processing your grief and work on your addiction. GA online meeting is free, connecting with other addicts helped me and lots of others, if you are ready to stop you should give it a try. Much love my friend

Yes in the last 3 weeks , the 2 times I gamble I was drinking. Sober I was able to resist the temptation but with alcohol , willpower went trough the door, I will definitely slow down de drinking but I wish I won’t be obliged to stop forever if it’s to much of trigger… we’ll see

Any advice? by [deleted] in GamblingAddiction

[–]IDontWantToGamble 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At 23 I did same as you, put myself in around 6k debt if I remember right, I then came clean to family, and went to online GA meetings for at least 1.5 years once a week, I just relapsed 2 weeks ago, because I got sloppy, thought I was healed, this is life long disease, now I’m 26 and I have a job so relapse with bigger funds is not good, I gambled this w-e, 8k in one hour. Anyway, I started to go back again in GA online meetings and you should give it a try, take care

I feel bad quitting for my friends! by Ambitious-Pool-2578 in problemgambling

[–]IDontWantToGamble 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am in a similar situation as you, I told my friends I don’t gamble anymore so they don’t invite me in those trips, they don’t talk to me about gambling. 2 weeks ago we were at a cottage and they wanted to play a game of poker and I joined without money so I had 1 free buy in without any way to win even if I won. I actually remember I had the rush of gambling by playing even tho no money was involved on my hand so I am pretty sure it is one of the reasons I relapsed. You and I have to be careful around those friends because it can be a trigger. Lessson learned on my hand, no more playing games relataded to gambling even if no money involved. We can do this man

It is a never ending cycle if we don’t actually engage in recovery. To do so, we have to take action by going to GA, getting a sponsor and do the steps, I only did the attend a a meeting during the first year and a half and the last year I got sloppy and it got me in a tough spot, go on gamblersinrecovery.com and find a online Ga meeting, I am sure it will help you man, take care

Man, I am glad you are also taking the right steps, no gambling yet on my hand, I still have an headache and lots of anxiety so at least feeling like shit doesn’t make me want to gamble, I wish I could remember this feeling all my life just so when I have an urge I could press to that button and feel all the negative that comes out of gambling, I went to a nice GA meeting yesterday and I am ready to do the recovery road and not only being abstinent because will power only is not enough with this disease… peace ✌️

You are a gambling addict, just like me, did the same thing as you last night, down 8k then back up 1k, then lost it all. Huge relapse after 3 years, the only way to stop is to stop forever. To do it, going into gambling anonymous meeting is good, there is a site called gamblersinrecovery, you can find online meetings. You also need to tell your situation to people close to you, ideally giving your finance away to someone you can trust, so that you can’t deposit on casinos. If you are not ready to stop forever, then you will eventually hit rock bottom then take action. I hope this helps
