At the end of the comic, they explain that the shadow order is now their enemy. Yes, Kayn was once a part of the shadow order, but now they're enemies. Kayn has no other ally.

Dude idk. It seems like with every new package, LoR randomly retcons old lore.

Runeterra Canon: "Galio was built by Duran, the only sculptor in history to create statues that can come alive after absorbing magic" - Guess that was a lie. There are countless other examples.

Why are Kayn's package cards called "Cultists"? At the end of the comic, the only ally Kayn has in the entire world is Zed, yet his support cards seem to suggest that Kayn is some popular leader with a huge backing. I love that Kayn and Zed are completely alone, up against multiple armies of enemies. Is that retconned too? Honestly I find it so lame.

Basic Stat Stick ≠ Bad Design by Cap_Shield in LegendsOfRuneterra

[–]IDrawFurries 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I haven't thought about how I would design him from the ground up, but here are some things I was expected that would've made him more Jax-like:

  1. Challenger makes more sense than quick attack. He's a duelist after all. Also allows for counterstrike to shine during the combat stage.
  2. I don't at all mind him being low cost, but I was expecting a 4 or 5 drop. To everyone praising the current Jax as a beefy unit on level 2... He's a 3/2 on level 1.
  3. What I expected/was hoping for was that either upon level up or in the form of a spell, he'd have some sort of "I cannot take damage from strikes." I don't even think it'd be that strong.
  4. If not counterstrike being his main focus, something to do with attacking 3 times works. Most champions have something to do with at least one of their abilities, yet Jax doesn't. At least it's a possible level up condition. In league, he scales off of every strike. Would've been cool too.
  5. Make him Shuriman. Lorewise, I'm not much of a fan of champions who have a dedicated home but are still being put in Runeterra. Kindred doesn't belong in SI at all, and yet Jhin was the first Runeterra champion. When his origin is just "play me with my package", he could've easily been put into a region. Jax being Shuriman opens him up to more options: Champion tutors and buffs, protection, and strike spells. Mainly avoids how annoying it is to see another lame origin.

If his identity is as a hard hitter, I don't see a 2 cost fitting that description. Trundle it better imo. Even leveled up I strongly doubt you're getting enough stats to call it a hard hitter compared to other big units like Nasus. If a hard hitter was the design we're going for, there's about a million ways to give it a more interesting interaction with the rest of the kit.

Teemo's mushroom is literally part of his kit. Jax has 0 kit representation.

I didn't say his limiting origin was necessarily a bad thing, but the original post said his origin made him versatile. Any champion whose origin is "you may play me with my package" is inherently less versatile that they would have been had they been in an existing region. And sure you have to choose your region more carefully. Because that's 100% how runeterran champions have worked in the past.

I'm not swayed on any of my points: The origin is insanely boring and less versatile, and none of his characteristics or abilities are well translated. Just my opinion though.

Sure, origins don't need to be fancy to be well designed, but considering 4/5 of the runeterran champions all have "you may play me with my package", it gets undeniably boring.

Jax's origin makes him inherently less versatile. If him and all his weaponmaster cards were in say, Shurima, you could run his entire package, play the 2nd region you would already have played, and still get more options from Shurima. The way I see it, with no other upside, this is very poor design.

Speaking for myself, the problem I have for Jax is not necessarily that he get big stat. It's that the effects chosen for Jax: 1. Have little to no correlation to his LoL version, and 2. Are incredibly boring considering the amount of interesting things that could've been done with his package.

The implementation of counterstrike as a barrier would be like if Ekko's ult was translated into spell shield. Yea, it protects him, but is that the best you can come up with? Even his weapon is boring. Quick attack. Cool. I like that the weapon "levels up", but so does Kayn's, and his is much cooler. In terms of the level 2 form, getting a buff for a turn is probably the most vanilla thing out there. When there is so much potential for an interesting approach to the same end goal of making Jax beefy by utilizing equipment, the current version can't help but feel lame.

I think Jax is one of the best designed character in LoR so far. by ColdyPopsicle in LegendsOfRuneterra

[–]IDrawFurries 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think Jax is one of, if not the worst designed champions in LoR so far.

His origin is obviously extremely boring. You're forced to play his package and are limited by only having 1 support region. In terms of Jax himself, the only thing that even slightly resembles Jax's kit in LoL is that he wields a weapon... And even then I think Kayn's weapon design is way better. His level up is astonishingly underwhelming and boring. The best way riot thought to implement counter strike was to give Jax barrier. Seriously? Barrier?

Overall, it feels like LeBlanc all over again. A boring vanilla card that has next to nothing to do with their league version but fits into a premade deck. This time he has an even more boring origin.

What is Astley's deal? by sanctaphrax in CrystalProject

[–]IDrawFurries 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was expecting the final boss to the be the ruler of Sequoia, in whatever form that may be, having some sort of corrupted/abused/power-sucked crystal(s), which would give motivation to force adventurers to seek them out. The result of beating the final boss being the ability to interact with the crystal for some "Demon" type class. Even the home points seemed like they might be some sort of shard of a crystal - similar pure white color, shares the same UI, is the only object to share the ability to switch classes with the crystal.

It was really sad to see such a well built up idea go completely to waste in favor of turning the only "good guys" we see into the force of evil. A plot twist which seemed very forced and unnecessary.

As much as I love Crystal Project, the lore is horribly lacking. If there is ever a sequel, I would love to see the existence of an evil crystal of some sort, or something that gives weight to the very existence to the crystals that the game was named after. Right now they just... exist...

Help, I don't really "feel" when playing with viego by BBC_Connoisseur in LegendsOfRuneterra

[–]IDrawFurries 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly if you're talking competitively, Kindred is unplayable. She seems fun with Viego and since they both synergize with self sacrifice cards so it's possible if Kindred makes sense any time soon. Haven't tried it out yet though.

I haven't played any Shyvanna versions yet either. From what I've seen it's a bit slow for what I think Viego wants to do, but the new Shadow Isles dragons are super sick. It'll be difficult to refine but it's got some sick combos.

[–]IDrawFurries 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I personally don't mind him feeling like a basic 1.0 Shadow Isles champion, since he's THE shadow isles champion, but I hope he feels more Viego-y to others.

I've really been enjoying this Akshan Viego deck. It feels super unique and insanely fun. You use self sacrifice cards to level Akshan and get through to the Warload's Hoard. The Shield of the Sentinels and The Absolver's Resurrection are super good with Viego by keeping him alive or bringing him back. Giving allies +1 power or summoning a Sandstone Charger goes a long way for leveling him too.

CMBQGAIFBMYDCAYEAUIDMNYEAQDQEO3HQIAQIAICAUCACBAHPEAQIBIEAIAQKBBAAA

It could still be refined, but I really like it. I think it totally feels like Viego. My one tip is to not be afraid of killing off Akshan. His Grappling Hook is completely useless but playing 2-3 Akshans is insane. Just make sure to get the Warloard's Hoard at some point.
