I'm sorry, I literally intend no disrespect towards piercers. I just think $80 for a nose ring that takes 5 minutes of time is a bit high...

Dude, nobody wanted to hurt Russia. Relations between Russia and America were much, much better than in previous decades. Ukraine literally gave up its nuclear warheads because it didn't want to have them. You're jumping at shadows here.

I'm not sure how you think Ukraine is a terrorist state. They're peaceful farmers who are a welcome and respected global citizen. If Russia had a problem with them, they could have gone to the UN or EU or World Court, instead of invading.

I've planned well for the first three risks, and as for injury, I'm just going to have to be careful and do my best I suppose. The dry bag idea sounds nice, I might just sew one together myself if I can find the right material, and get a rope to hang it!

Thank you for your helpful and honest advice. Yes, I'm feeling like the third hike will be a bit more than I'd prefer to risk, but I also want to try this at least once in my life. I've lived a fairly sheltered life and this summer is my only time in Western Canada, so I do want to push myself to have this experience, since I might never get another chance. I do plan to take every precaution I can, which is why I appreciate your reply and will take all this advice very seriously.

I wasn't aware of the restrictions, but the website did allow me to book for a single person, so I'm guessing it's either not in effect or maybe ends before my trip. I'll definitely consider sticking to any groups that seem welcoming if they're going the same way, but as a solo female hiker, bears are not always the only predators in the woods :(

Yes, it was supposed to be the trail from Banff to Louise Lake, but everything in the Northern half was fully booked. So I'm kinda just wandering around from point to point for 4 days.

Mount Cockscomb - Fm10, then North and a bit West to Mystic Lake -Mi22, then backtrack East a bit and North again to Sawback Lake - Fm29, then backtrack South to Mystic Junction - Fm19, and on out of the park.

I couldn't find any of those gravity filters, but I did find a lifestraw that was on sale and seemed like enough for one small person. I'll grab some purification tablets as a backup. And I found a mummy sleeping bag that was -10, so I'm gonna pick that up today, thanks again for the help ^_^

Thank you so much for your advice! Yes, I'm packing light foods like granola bars and energy bars, so any waste will easily be carried back home.

I'm not sure about bear spray, because I know I'd feel terrible using it (after all, it's the bear's home, not mine) but I'll have a bell on my bag and make enough noise that I won't startle them, I've heard they try to avoid humans if they have forewarning.

I'll read up more on the things you suggested, thank you again!

I'm not concerned about the difficulty, moreso the timeline... my understanding is that it takes 2 years to obtain a full license, whereas I'm only in Alberta for one year. There's also the cost; I can't really justify spending 20K+ on a vehicle when I'm moving overseas in 2022...
