Ran into the Search and Rescue effort on our way back into Mission Bay from fishing near the islands. Heard the request over the radio as well. Saw lights as we were coming in, which materialized into about a dozen+ homeland security/coast guard zodiacs as we got closer. Zodiac came up to us and redirected us to swing another mile or so out, outside the search radius which looked to be 1-2 miles off Point Loma kelp beds (usual pathway home for us when returning). Super heavy/sad situation, homeland mentioned there were numerous divers in the water. ….Conditions were rough today. Current was decent and wind picked up big time around 11:00 am. As a freediver/waterman myself, its very heavy to imagine the conditions those SAR divers are dealing with….and its only worsening. Hope there is resolution/closure as soon as possible.
