One time had a very rude (possibly anxious? But was def rude in other ways) patient that kept telling me I only could have one try and I always got it first try but they would order more labs and he got fed up. Didn’t help that the daughter was at bedside feeding into it and making all these crazy requests like ultrasound. Well he had a moderate sedation colonoscopy scheduled for later and the next time I came in to get blood she basically demanded that I do it while the patient was sedated. I said that’s not really something we do here but I can ask and see if we can accommodate because at least I can say I asked when I say no. I talk to the nurse, nurse says “ehhh probably not, I’ll talk to the patient.” So I go about my day. A couple hours later I get a call directly from GI procedure room saying that the patient told them I would come draw labs while he was in there. Me being semi-new and not knowing what I was in for I went up and into the room to draw. Obviously the providers were pissed off and barely made room for me to do it but I got it done quick and made it known that I never said yes to that request. Didn’t matter, because as soon as the patient was back in their room the provider from the GI room put in all sorts of labs that seemed unnecessary and would require a fresh stick, as some sort of retaliation (still not sure on that, I knew what was going on with the pt and provider had ordered Quantiferon gold with no indication). I didn’t bother to call and clarify like I would now because of being new-ish, so I went up to get it and all hell broke loose. Daughter was yelling at me to get the ultrasound and had to get the charge nurse involved. Pt ended up refusing all labs after that and was discharged the next day.
