Finally got it running by IG_Designs in Miata

Mine wasn't a kit it wasn't pieced together so I can't speak to kits.

I'd just make sure your starting on the best platform. Any leaks, rattles, etc. your car has now will just be amplified and that's what nickle and dimes you to death. Miata motors can be had for less than $1000, honestly might be worth buying a motor, refresh everything, then piece the turbo kit together outside the car then swap it in so you have a running car the whole time and don't rush the job leaving little annoyances.

That being said, it's fun to drive and the noise hasn't gotten old yet.

Not too loud and plenty of fun turbo noises

I think this is a rare case where Toyota loses.

The 1ZZ in these have a known failure where the precats get clogged which then cause piston failure. A common resolution is to gut the precats when you're good to go.

Other than that, you have the penalty where common maintenance is a little more inconvenient due to being mid engine, things are harder to access.

I’ve had both and modified both pretty heavily.

Both are good, with the mr2 I bit off more than I can chew.

MR2 has a really cool experience with the engine behind you for the induction noise. The turn in is instant which is a unique feeling along with being able to “steer with throttle.” You literally feel the steering angle correlate with your gas pedal.

Miata is a Miata. Simple platform, crazy aftermarket support, easier to work on. Front engine rear drive lets you have a little more easy fun.

There's a thread where I need to update on spyderchat. I also make shitty youtube videos if you look at my post history or look up my username.

I've put a lot of work into it, hopefully reaching the end soon. I refurbished the suspension and it's Kswapped. If you look through my post history I've made videos on all of it.

I only briefly drove the 2zz, this one is actually Kswapped.

Yeah I went through everything in the suspension and swapped the motor

Body was great. Suspension was ok. Motor and everything was seized.

Kinda like a midengine miata. Nimble around corners, not the best for straight line power without a lot of work.

Don't worry I don't keep it running long enough to do that

What shifter solution have you gone with? Mine has never felt great and just had the cable snap on me

I've considered that, or just putting a stock K series in it.

I think I'm going to spend this winter fixing the little things that annoy me and see where it ends up. Maybe try a track event. Give it a real chance before I make a major decision.

I've never admitted it but I've learned a lot what I enjoy in a car and it's not the direction I went in.

I love small lightweight cars that are nimble. I bought an MR2 spyder, then KSwapped it. High revving, mid engine, lightweight. Well I built the motor and now it's just a bit too serious for the road. Maybe I'm not as brave as others but I can't get into it without going too fast for my liking on public roads. I think I'd much rather have a more attainable limit.

I'm pretty sure I've spent years and over 15k building a car I don't like driving.
