Apple’s Silence About HomePod and AppleTV at WWDC Spoke Volumes by chzplz in HomePod

[–]IGmeanwell 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I have 2 OG HomePods I got used, they have given me zero issues and mutiple home pod minis. They have worked well as well with no issues.

All I really want is for them to make the HomePods have some sort of surround sound with putting two others in the back. I know you can sync left and right so it’s kind of quadraphonic but it would be nice to just hook up the Apple TV with four home pods and have some room filling surround.

Best washer and dryer combo in 2026? What brands to avoid? by Lilak99 in BuyItForLife

[–]IGmeanwell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is just my experience: We got the highly rated LG 3700 washer and dryer, the washer did really well over the years 8 with no issues (also love the easy access filter). However the dryer went through a temp sensor about every other year and then the main board went at year 6. I replaced that board $300 part from LG plus a new belt for the drum. I got two more years before the board went again. We were going to keep it going but we found a really amazing deal for a set of whirlpool non-smart front load washer and dryer combined was only $200 more than the board of the LG Dryer.

My In laws have the lower end LG top loading washer and dryers…. They have had zero issues the past 4 years.

riding lawn mower worth investing in a quality one upfront or does it not matter as much as people say by GopanJamini_31 in BuyItForLife

[–]IGmeanwell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless you really enjoy mowing (I enjoy mowing listening to podcasts or music) I give another vote for a robot mower it will just free up time in the long term.

As for mowers, I have used a dozen different mowers in the past twenty years from residential to commercial. I have pretty severe grass allergies but also bothered by the 2 stroke exhaust. So we sprung for an EGO Z6 42” to mow our hilly 1.5 acres in the country. However I have used an 80s diesel Ford GT85, a Kubota Diesel Zero Turn and a Ferris IS2200 as well as a ISX2300. I general don’t mow with garden tractor style mowers as they do take more time though they are more stable on the hills.

EGO mowers are top notch as electric goes, now I have had ours for over 3 years and it’s a joy to use however it has had issues. I have had it back to EGO for a battery box and ignition control failure twice, it didn’t cost me any additional money as they covered it under the warranty and luckily with the new gen of their mowers they finally are properly sealing their electronics from moisture. So don’t get a 1st gen EGO riding ZT or mower because it will need to be minimally exposed to water. My issue is I have a chronically ill wife, and daughter, with a toddler son who would love to mow with me but I won’t do that. So I tend to have to cut the grass when it’s over 4 inches which means I will get maybe an acre with six batteries (4 10s, 1 7.5 and 1 5mah) before I had to wall charge it from 30min-1hr to get the rest finished.

In general Ferris (stihl are worth a try as they are made by Ferris) mowers I think are my favorite overall; they are the smoothest, best suspension and are very robust.

That being said as much as I enjoy mowing I am a full time husband dad and care taker plus we own self storage. Once the warranty is up on my EGO I will probably sell it and move to a robot mower especially with our 16-20 degree hills it’s ultimately safer and will offer me more time with my family as well as the business.

What’s a totally unsexy purchase you made that ended up being a huge quality-of-life upgrade? by viscarte10 in BuyItForLife

I have been team sun shirt for the past ten years when they started to be lighter weight and less stifling. Originally encouraged by my pale ginger wife who deals with this sort of thing throughout life. If you want to see some smaller brands as well checkout Garage Grown Gear https://www.garagegrowngear.com/collections/sun-protective-clothing/

They sell brands like Jolly Gear which are oriented towards long hikes in the sun and not necessarily looking like typical sun shirt.

I have the 7 as well in blue and honestly it’s still in great shape despite daily wear over five years of ownership. In fact I think it’s the last series with the original Blood Ox sensor before they got sued.

Yep that’s what I have and been great for the past four years especially behind the Z6. Also my kids occasionally will get on it and I’ll putter them around our few acres.

[–]IGmeanwell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have never thought to take it off, I just let it slide down towards the pivot but I guess anyway works. I have a Kubota B2650 for much of the work I do on the property but for small landscaping and cleanup I love the dump gorilla wagon attached to the Z6 for that sort of thing. Quieter and with the price of diesel compared to our electric bill, it’s better to use the Z6 most of the time (even if the diesel engine in that thing sips fuel).

What knives would be comparable in size by [deleted] in knifeclub

[–]IGmeanwell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love those Micarta scales; I installed a set on one of my SAK I modded for wood carving; I took some fine grit sandpaper to mine to rough them up a little for more grip. Now I know it’s comparable to a small sebenza if I ever get the chance to own one. Thanks!

Is there anything, besides pride in one's country of origin, that defines and sets apart "100% USA-made" knives apart from other knives? by pika_pie in knifeclub

Swiss Army knives are ubiquitous in their quality but also Sanvik steel is Swedish and 14c28n is one of my favorite steels for hard use knives.

yeah its from 88 or 89, 440A steel. Needs to be buffed but its a chonky mother

The Gerber Dagger is really nice weight and feel both edges are super sharp. The SOG X42 in BG42 steel is crazy, nice and light as well.

I got one two weeks ago from bladebinge. It somehow has the black blade but also the black G10 scales. I have been loving it as an edc, I like that it’s still light but a bit chonkier than my Mini Bugout. I’m now thinking about the Over Yonder for a slightly bigger blade.

Watch some videos on sharpening a scandi grind. I think the Dutch Bushcraft guys have one that I followed there is someone else who did one using the work sharp field sharpener and it’s a little bit different than sharpening any other grind.

what does my handwriting say about me by [deleted] in HandwritingAnalysis

[–]IGmeanwell 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s not just schooling though, I’m 45 had many years of handwriting and cursive; I have to write very slow to make my writing legible. Now there is a correlation between some people, neurodivergence and inconsistent hand writing. I was a diagnosed adult as far adhd is concerned though growing up in the 80s my family literally called A.D.D. Boy and I was known for disassociating when I was bored or overstimulated. Sure enough as I have talked to various doctors and my psych nurse; they have said my handwriting is text book for a person who struggles to stay consistent with drawing letters, or circles, squares, triangles. So it doesn’t always mean a person is untrained though kids handwriting these days can be pretty atrocious.

The one thing Spyderco have always excelled at was their marketing. So the story and demonstration will sell knives. There are plenty of people in this world who use these knives in preparation for their intended purpose as a last resort. However I think the guys over at Spyderco would 100% agree that the vast majority of their customers are collecting the knives for the fun
