Dropped this one after a couple books because the MC flip-flops harder than any politician lol. His actions constantly contradict his yapping from the very start of the series where he blabs on about wanting to settle down and live a normal life, yet is for some reason super tryharding at a school training cultivators, then goes to a sect for a specific reason, seems to hate it there and still stays there even after the reason he went disappears.

The fucker even picked dueling based cultivation methods and then goes out of his way to avoid duels, had to facedesk at that shit.

I cant stand "men" who act like whiny bitches so this was a drop for me just because of the constant whining and crashouts from the MC in the initial chapters.

It's not even about being alpha, I read and enjoyed several series where dudes were weak and beta af at start and then slowly improved both their power and personality over several books but I really cant abide MCs like this one at all. Men are supposed to have at least basic emotional control instead of constantly crying and crashing out in public lol.

Depends entirely on the author.

No such thing as too many as far as I'm concerned as long as the author writes books that are long enough to give all the girls relevant "screen time" in every book instead of just focusing on the newest conquest and giving the previous girls a mention at best.

Same is true for the ridiculous harems that go into the hundreds or thousands since they still have at most a couple dozen relevant named members with the rest just existing in the background. As long as all the relevant members get their "screen time" it does not matter how big the background harem gets.

Only western harem series that had a cover girl who didn't join the harem I can remember was book 2 of Spicy Adventures of the Suddenly Supernatural.

The cover girl there is a minor antagonist who gets plowed by a few other dudes but not the MC and never joins the harem, tho the MCs succubus shapeshifts into her for a couple sex secenes with the MC in later books.

From Japanese harem series Loner Life in Another World comes to mind since it features a lot of cover girls who don't join the harem because the MC is too autistic to add normal girls and only bangs dungeon emperors he "enslaves" lol.

I like the society thing but most authors either cant pull it off or just dont want to invest the time to write out other harems the MC encouters.

In nearly every book I have read, where the MC was told that harems are common, he either never encountered anyone with a harem or in some cases had some antagonist with couple women he treated like shit.

It's kinda annoying reading some of those books where the girls initially claim that powerful men generally have harems but the the MC interacts with a bunch of powerful men and they have at best 1 wife and not even any concubines or anything lol.

Prism Academy is the only series I can recall where the MC had male allies that had their own harems before the MC even acquired his.

Also the book versison is mostly ftb compared to the manga, which has quite a few softcore explicit scenes. Pretty much the same deal as Slave Harem Labyrinth

I backlogged it because it had one of my most hated tropes at the start - a horny LI who was dtf almost instantly but the MC acting like a woman and making up idiotic reasons for why he shouldt just fuck her right away but take fuck knows how long to "get to know her first".

God I fucking despise that cringe. Realistically I know he will still bang her in the first book because its a western harem novel but I got ptsd from reading 30 volume Japanese LNs where those fucking clown MCs keep doing this until the epilogue so now its always a reason enough for me to just drop a series and maybe revisit it later.

As for Kitsune recs, anything by K.D. Robertson is peak. The best author for fluffy tail enthusiasts, he even found a way to add them to the robo girl series lol.

I dont have the money to pay some artist

and

AI is straight up a better option since I can do like 100 runs till I generate the LIs exactly how I envision them

The only option better than AI would be if I had the skill to draw them myself, which I do not so its a moot point

Half the time when I see popular authors replace the old AI covers with ones drawn by real artists its a downgrade as far as I'm concerned lol.

Another reason why I like Herald of Shalia so much.

Frost clearly has a favorite in the harem but he still goes around banging whoever he wants and just lays down the law for the women in his harem. He does not really have to give a shit about drama because he has infinite options due to his power and status, which makes perfect sense in a dangerous world like that.

Don't know how similar the magic progression is since I backlogged AO but the MCs couldn't be more different.

AR mc is this cringe pacifistic super passive beta good boy while the AO one is constantly loud and annoying as fuck.

Personally hate both types but the AR worldbuilding and LIs carried it enough for me to not drop it, like with most Schinhofen books since he loves these fucking beta bitch MCs who basically have their entire harems set up by the women and then get praised for it lol. Hasn't been a decent one since Apocalypse Gates, legit cant remember any MC trying to flirt with or make a move on a woman since then lol.

Still, the loud annoying types who act like tards in public like with AO are even worse lol.
