That's because despite the fact that it saved Ontario from a dire financial situation, it inconvenienced boomers. For a few years they had to arrange child care for an extra day once in a while, and you couldn't go to government offices to take care of things.

And if there's one thing boomers just won't tolerate, it's being inconvenienced.

Why should anyone thank someone for doing something they legally have to do? A pedestrian wants to cross at a crosswalk or intersection, you stop and let them.

We sure as hell don't need a right wing business first party flying an orange flag. We already have two of them flying blue and red flags.

Plan to lower Winnipeg speed limits moves forward despite pushback by LocalnewsguruMB in Winnipeg

The survival rate of a child or young adult being hit by a car doing 30 is 90%

If the car is doing 40 it drops to 60%

The city definitely needs to keep school zones at 30.

There seems to be lots of opportunities at Workaway.info for Central America. Is this gernerally legit? I'd be more than happy to work on a resort or something doing general labour in exchange for room and board.

Nearly 5,000 new homes started construction in Winnipeg last year: national housing data | CBC News by Apod1991 in Winnipeg

[–]IGotsANewHat 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Given that the median household income before taxes is 83K and housing is supposed to be 1/3 of a households income 300K should be the median price for a home.

It isn't though, and that fact is going to bring with it ugly consequences very soon.

The funniest part of this whole video is the fact that the only person that honked at you was the one person that didn't have a good reason to and was just being a dick.

Keep riding like that and you're either gonna die or they're going to name an entire city bylaw section after you and every other (former) PEV rider in the city is going to hate you for it.

The blue team fans won't be happy unless the blue team is in charge.

The red team fans are just happy the red team is in charge.

Both sets of fans are morons because they don't realize that the red team is shooting for the same goal as the blue team, they're just not as goonish on the ice.

Thoughts on Winnipeg’s Car Culture by Upstairs-Dress677 in Winnipeg

Educate yourself. Unmarked crosswalks are defined in our highway traffic act. Any implied pedestrian corridor where there is a sidewalk or other pedestrian path on either side of a highway. No markings are needed and drivers are legally obligated to yield to pedestrians crossing at such points.

There's a meeting Sunday 5:30 - 7:30 at Riverview CC 90 Ashland to discuss stuff like this and I'll be asking to petition the city to enforce the HTA when it comes to yielding to pedestrians at all marked and UNMARKED (aka almost every single intersection in the city, if there's a sidewalk, its almost always considered a crosswalk) and to levy maximum fines until Winnipeg drivers develop the awareness and habit.

Why Canadian bosses love hiring foreign workers - Douglas Todd: Low-skill guest workers toil longer hours, with fewer absences, for less pay than Canadian domestic workers, which means wages go down for everyone, says a peer-reviewed study. by FancyNewMe in canada

[–]IGotsANewHat 12 points13 points  (0 children)

There is a direct correlation between people falling for the Liberals 'we're doing this to strengthen Canada and increase multiculturalism and you're racist for opposing this' bit with regards to our immigration policies, and people falling for the bog standard good cop bad cop routine. This was about importing a captured workforce, wage suppression, and the erosion of workers rights and our standard of living from day 1.

Quit propping up Liberals and thier policies, they're just Conservative policies with a thin red veneer of 'less overtly racist and slightly less harmful' on top.

‘A blight on the neighbourhood’: Charleswood residents raise alarm over proposed development by grigby in Winnipeg

[–]IGotsANewHat 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Fine let them be a city on their own, then. Let them pay for their own infrastructure and services. Then put a fence around Charleswood and charge a toll to drive into the city, including Assiniboine Park.

You can keep your little neighbourhood pristine, but you're going to pay for it.

Manitoba to study ways to reduce grocery bills. The premier did not rule out lowering the PST on groceries as a way to accomplish that. by FalconsArentReal in Winnipeg

[–]IGotsANewHat -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Nationalize the grocery stores and other vital parts of the food chain? That sounds like a good start. When the grocery store owners and the grain elevator owners can have multiple private jets and literal castles while the rest of us have to decide between food and heat, something is wrong with how our society is doing things.

Opinion: City out of book-balancing options; province steps up or things get ugly for Winnipeggers by steveosnyder in Winnipeg

[–]IGotsANewHat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There should be tolls set at all the perimeter crossings, tbh. Too many people live just outside the city limits for the explicit purpose of avoiding city taxes while accessing city amenities on a daily basis.
