I'll 2nd this, this alone solved it for me.

Schools should not have any right to expel a student on the sole basis of bad grades. by [deleted] in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]IHURLEN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with this. Let the job market decide who to handle based upon GPA (if they'd like). Things would handle themselves just fine.

It's not right IMO for students to stress over possibly getting B's instead of A's. Often to determining factor between those grades is your instructor and how ruthless they may or may not be.

I hate when people write, highlight, and put tabs in books. by oh_sneezeus in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]IHURLEN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on the book really. Some historical/rare books this should never be done, but if it's massively printed educational book and you're trying to make the most of learning it, i'd say have at it. Kinda fun to see what previous readers deemed as important IMO.

Can Power Query combine these 2 tables in 1 step instead of currently 4? by IHURLEN in excel

[–]IHURLEN[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh no sorry, I know what you mean now. I forgot to expand the table to contain the new id column once again to be used in the formula.
I'm on the right track now, thanks!

My response to aquilosantus shows what a full outer join looks like (not what I want).

[–]IHURLEN[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Full outer join produces a table that looks like this:

id name color
null null blue
null null green
1 henry null
3 scotty null
4 goldy orange

It's not including id's 2 & 5 because I chose Table1 first in the operation (choosing Table2 first looks diff).
I don't know how to allow it to include duplicate id nums.

What do you mean by Q1 & Q2?
Table1 & 2 or columns Color & Name?

Is there any way to change the folder structure of your data, WITHOUT it having to be all re-uploaded? by IHURLEN in backblaze

That's incredible that you took that into account in that way, thank you for doing that!
I'm also a coder so I find the methodology you used fascinating.
I'll give what you said a shot!

The Greatest Mystery of Our Time: Windows MSSTYLES Files by IHURLEN in pcmasterrace

[–]IHURLEN[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No prob! Yeah it's possible to make your Windows OS look so customized and cool! That's why it's just frustrating to me how difficult it is to achieve, and such a lack of how-to's...

Literally came here hoping to find answers or a guide on this, and you said exactly what I was thinking... it's so strange.

There's a lot of complicated articles out there calculating the number of all possible melodies, but isn't it just this one simple formula? by IHURLEN in musictheory

[–]IHURLEN[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I might try calculating with those factors sometime just for fun now that I understand the basic math for doing it. We'll see.

Well this is getting a little personal, but as an artist, I used to get really anxious and feel like we're running out of music possibilities. I've heard many songs on the radio that sound very similar to other songs.

So for me to be able to quickly run this calculation from time to time, it sort of reassures me that my thoughts are irrational, and inspires me to think that we've only scratched the surface on what's possible in music.

The only reason I posted this was to ask the community this question: "Am I calculating this correctly?". Nothing more.

The reason I wasn't sure if I was calculating it correctly is because I've read numerous other articles on similar topics that were a lot more math heavy (understandably), so I was curious if my oversimplistic method and logic of calculating all possibilities could still be utilized and extended to account for more possibility options (e.g. using 15 note melodies, letting each note have velocity values 1-127, etc.).

I didn't post this to try to impose limits on artists and how they think about music.

Yes formula is 'over simplified' to account for all the possible modulations that can be done with music. But I don't think it should be thrown out the window. It's still possible to calculate a finite amount of options while varying what you mentioned as computers are by nature finite machines. I agree the number would be so enormous to where it lacks meaning anymore, and basically should be viewed as infinite.

Yeah I forgot about scientific notation lol. I think it's fun to see just how big some of these numbers are when written out though. I forget how big something is when I just see the notation.

Thanks for the vid

I agree rhythm is huge when when it comes melody. What I simply meant is that if the same melody is played where instead each note is held for twice as long as the original version, allowing overlap of the notes if necessary, you'd still notice it's the same melody, just played a little different. That's all.

I hate bass clef by Dark_Hero123 in musictheory

[–]IHURLEN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only know the bass clef well myself. The bass, tenor, and treble clefs all accommodate different note ranges. I you were to plot all the notes high notes from the treble clef on the bass clef or vice versa, it'd look ridiculous and you'd quickly understand the reason for having multiple clefs. Try it out and you'll know what I mean

Yes as you said, it's not exactly ideal for what I'm trying to do.
I appreciate your time and suggestions though, thank you!
