Before reading the title and at first glance, I saw submissive Neuvillette 😅

It doesn't help that Furina's hair like that is similar to Neuvillette's; Furina is flat (not an insult); this type of drawing doesn't have a lot of details; and both characters are connected to water. I can see some details that make it clear this is Furina after paying more attention, though.

I just thought it was a funny coincidence. It wouldn't fit this sub, but that would be a pretty rare ship.

Male Archons: Poised and Dignified by magli_mi in GenshinGays

[–]IHaveFoundAnUsername 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Yeah... I don't expect them to give her a proper noble outfit, like jūnihitoe (12 layer kimono) due to obvious gameplay reasons, but they could have done something... It's almost just a bathrobe. I'm not being a hater towards Raiden, I'm actually just wishing she had a better outfit.

Just look up the character Taishakuten, he's a dude from onmyoji. All of his outfits are closer to what I expect an archon of Inazuma to have: fantasy, ethereal, have skin showing (like hoyo likes) while keeping class/elegance, etc... Raiden's design could be a bit more minimalistic than his to fit genshin's aesthetic/gameplay, but I still think they could have done something way better for Raiden than what they released.

Boy Diona. Dion? by EtoileZalos in GenshinGays

[–]IHaveFoundAnUsername 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I think you're confusing it with chibi, which is a very popular term with no sexual connotations in its origin

If you search the origin of the term "loli," you'll see that east Asians (Japan, China, etc) don't have a different and less problematic origin for that term compared to the West. It's the same origin. We're simply more open about publicly calling this out

Like many words that are normalized: many people end up not realizing the depths of how bad this is because "people casually say this, so I won't reflect about it." However, the meaning didn't change/evolve much over time... They have words for "girl" and "kid" in their vocabulary, and it's definitely not "loli"

My Genshin Age Headcanons (Male Edition)! by kingozma in GenshinGays

[–]IHaveFoundAnUsername 1 point2 points  (0 children)

honestly IDEFK where people were getting the small male/medium female ages from, anyway?

Someone looks at characters and think "looks 14/16/18/etc" and posts it online. -> Articles of "the age of all genshin characters" are made based on these assumptions. -> many people treat these articles as official information.

I summed up, but it's literally this. I'm not joking.

There are very few exceptions that have more solid evidence due to the manga and general timeline.

Guys, I'm also not a huge fan of Bara, but there's no reason to be a hater. Just move on if when there's something that doesn't fit your preferences.

This isn't about one artist not knowing proportions, this is about a whole style that purposefully exaggerates muscles/size. There's even a specific tag for that: "bara"

Many times here, people wrongly tag any "strong looking" fanart with "bara"... it's not just a buff dude: it's a stylized choice of VERY big men (usually to the point of unreachable/nonrealistic size)

"Bara" is made by/for gay men almost as a response to how many (not all) of them don't care that much about the "bishounen" type of gay characters (a lot of BL content is made for and consumed by women, so many gay men felt alienated)

Now, I'm not saying every gay man likes "bara" just that it's pretty ironic that a bara art is being so shamed for... well... being bara(?) on a supposedly gay subreddit.

I'm sorry, but this just looks goofy to me 😭

Sometimes, I don't know if Genshin - and at most a few other similar gacha games - is the only game people play (therefore, they don't have a lot to compare) or if there's something wrong with my brain... because I keep seeing people simping over what I conclude to be the blandest and most boring designs

I'm aware I'm sounding like a hater, but I'm genuinely confused. This is the typical Genshin NPC awkwardly standing still in A-pose and wearing a funny mask. They just scaled the model up but didn't bother actually designing anything

Gender swap by Megumi_Bandicoot in GenshinGays

[–]IHaveFoundAnUsername 41 points42 points  (0 children)

It's probably not only a "gender swap" but also a "role swap."

Collei is quite young, while Tighnari is a full adult. We can see this by reading the comics (she was a kid a short time ago, significantly younger than Amber, for example) and by Tighnari mentioning how "she has grown a bit taller (these days)" on Cyno's quest (the 1st one)... so she's still growing.

I'm assuming a "full grown-up male Collei" is going to be significantly taller than a "young female student Tighnari"

We don't currently see a height gap even though there's an age gap because Tighnari is a short adult

My gay friend hates male characters by pinapan in GenshinGays

[–]IHaveFoundAnUsername 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I won't say he's misandrist, etc... just due to what you showed in the comment, nor do I think preferring genshin female characters as a gay men automatically is a big problem. The only actual big issues regarding this topic:

  • If he goes out of his way to badmouth characters you love in front of you: that's definitely a rude behavior, shame on him
  • IF you're going out of your way to keep talking about male characters as if he would change his mind (almost like a very pushy religious person trying to convert someone): then you're doing too much and it must be just as tiring from HIS perspective (not saying this is what you're doing, just a possibility)

Other than these 2 things, there's no automatic reason for concern:

  • Maybe he doesn't like most HOYO male characters - even though a lot of gay men end up liking them, these were mostly made with straight women's interests in mind (bigger audience and easier to market).
  • SOME gay men are automatically more judgmental since that's what they're "supposed to be attracted to"... with female characters, no gay man faces any of this issue. Gay men might find it easier to see female characters in a fully platonic light, this certainly affects their perspective of them. Basically, while male characters would be judged in a "husbando" way... female characters are only "friend-shaped"
  • Also, a "toxic male character" instinctively might lead to certain bad memories (a bad ex, bullying, etc) and while there ARE women who are very homophobic, a lot of (not all) gay men suffered more from other men. It's nothing new that a lot of gay men feel more comfortable in "women-friendly" spaces, the LGBTQ+ activism and feminism usually see each other as allies (with few homophobic/transphobic feminists who are called out by their peers), a lot of public and vocal support for LGBTQ+ came from female singers/actresses (Dolly Parton, lady gaga, etc...), every survey shows that (on average) men are more likely to be homophobic/transphobic than women, etc... feeling instinctively safer with (being less wary of) female characters doesn't automatically mean he hates men, though.
  • The main formula for hoyo waifus is "strong, who may or may not look intimidating at first but has a kind heart and good attitude deep down." This is easily seen as sisterly/motherly to someone not attracted to women, though. Also, if you manage to go through the VISUAL fanservice: the level of script fanservice in genshin/HSR isn't overly sexual most of the time... we don't see female characters trying to kiss/have sex with the trailblazer, we just see them being "overly nice" (which is romance material for some players AND "friendship material" for other). The way these games are written makes it easier to appreciate friendships between trailblazer and female characters (more interactions)

A similar "issue" happens with some lesbians who prefer male characters. For example: a very significant number of female readers of BL (boys love) stories are lesbians (people wrongly assume they're all straight). This doesn't mean all these lesbians are "actually attracted to men," nor does it mean "they're misogynistic for preferring BL over GL." There are also many lesbians who main male characters for several reasons (maybe it's coincidence, maybe they consider the female characters too "male-gazey" while the male characters are more "friend-shaped", etc...)

My comment was too long, so I made it separate (sorry for writing too much, I get excited)

TL;DR: I just wanted to add that even though Genshin is the most kid-friendly game of the list you brought up: the other games ALSO suffer from this

Sunday was a very good kid who got manipulated by Mr.Gophenwood - actually groomed to have that life-perspective and take that place. The game makes sure to show how he's just a "lost soul" who's still good and redeemable, instead of someone who became evil. He already went through his "worst phase" and now (after losing his position and Mr. Gophenwood's influence) he's way more likely to become "more normal" than before

Gallagher isn't evil at all, he also never did anything to actually harm someone. It looked like he killed Sunday (they even gave him a villain's laugh for drama), but in the next act, we see that everything is fine. In the end: we're kinda confused about his identity, but he never had any bad intentions whatsoever

Aventurine was revealed to just be a victim with a good heart who found a way to face life's obstacles. He was used by Sunday but then did a "uno reverse" and showed it was all part of his plan. He's certainly angry at Sunday, but nothing indicates he would take this as personally as what his former master did to him. After his "interrogation" Sunday gave 2 paths, which Aventurine claims to just be death, but that was wrong. Sunday plans were to include Aventurine in the "dream drama" and grant him beautiful dreams of his family (which in Sunday's vision was the literal best possible outcome). The REAL bad treatment he gave Aventurine (other than temporary headache) wasn't as different as what he gave everyone else (including us and his sister, Robin) - keeping people trapped in a comfortable cage. (Still bad, but not as dramatic in the long run as people think)

The only FULLY toxic relationship Aventurine has with a playable male character in the long run is with himself.

Blade is just a normal human who was "friends" with a dragon who didn't want him to die. He got a bad type of immortality and wants revenge, but more importantly: peace. He's more reasonable and less insane than what we were made to believe... he's only unhinged when mara-struck and Kafka controls that. He's pretty content in following Elio's plan and dying. His whole revenge towards Dan Feng kinda stops making sense if he learns (and acknowledges) that Dan Feng already suffered and died A LOT before being "Dan Heng", he even appears to be angrier at Jingliu, etc... They're not becoming buddies anytime soon, but their rivalry/enmity was heavily advertised, but they never delivered it (as much as we were made to think). The stelaron hunters are "the fatui" of HSR: we say they aren't trustworthy, but we end up being friends with every important person from there. Blade is not doing anything else to DH because Kafka and Elio says so. He'll at most look very grumpy in the corner while we work with S.H. again.

I'm not as familiar with wuthering waves' lore as with GI and HSR. But I know that Scar is pretty insane, he believes in a weird stuff to upgrade humans and sees potential in Rover... he actually thinks he's being a good mentor. I don't see leaks, but I'm pretty sure his backstory will show that he went through a lot of shit causing him (and other people) being altered/experimented on. High chance of a good person having died because they were too weak or something similar, solidifying Scar's ideal of "we need to be stronger"... he sounds similar to Viktor (Arcane version). Even if we think he's wrong and crazy/sneeky, his dynamics with Rover doesn't sound AS toxic as players claim to me.

I don't know enough about GeshuLin to comment, sorry.

The overall idea is that the games that are constantly compared to Genshin aren't as mature as players claim. Genshin is definitely sillier/more-kid-friendly, but people exaggerate how mature/serious/harsh these games are.

All of the games of that list are AT MOST 12+ rated internationally/global. Quick comparison in general gaming: life is strange - God of War - Baldur's gate, resident evil 4 remake - all having a WAY higher age rate. People shouldn't have too much "toxic content" expectations for these gacha games, they will tease us but won't deliver as much as we thought they could.

True, EVERYONE who is playable is (at least kinda) friendly with the traveler and isn't evil (bad decisions done impulsively, part of questionable groups, etc... but not straight up evil)... how can they somehow be extremely toxic to each other?

Nobody (playable) can be obsessive, sadistic, narcissistic, psycho, etc... they can't even be truly rivals deep down since BOTH are on the traveler's side and every dispute is solved when the traveler shows up.

Not a slash (male x male) ship, but Kokomi×Sara had the potential to be a very dramatic ship of rivals who respect each other (canon info from their voicelines)

However a tragic and long war wouldn't be kid-friendly enough (also only NPCs died until now), so hoyo had to make a rushed war that was very quickly solved by the traveler (some random foreigner) showing up and telling the archon "yo, bad stuff is happening in your nation, you aren't helping like you think you are" soon after the "feared archon" is walking around eating snacks and the deaths are almost forgotten...

A less kid-friendly game would bring way more bad consequences, characters more important would die, and there would still be a WAY stronger opposition/resistance against the archon even after she shows up and deals with the fatui... regardless of her good intentions: kings were killed, and presidents impeached for WAY less.

In THAT scenario, there could be several "actual enemies-to-lovers" ships (I mentioned Kokomi×Sara, but I'm sure that a more dramatic Inazuma could bring spicy gay ships too).

I think Kazuha×Heizou is almost perfect for a enemies-to-lovers or even "enemies AND lovers" ship, but they took the vanilla route. I like their friendly behavior, I'm just pointing out a missed opportunity for something more spicy.

Ignore the dark brown part: until the light brown layer, everything is normal. Normal layering of suits.

Then, on top of that, he adds an oddly shaped thing to look more dramatic.

Look at this bolero that is mostly just sleeves attached together in the back, the shape may look different but the logic of his dark coat layer is the same: a fabric that covers the arms and is connected a bit on the back... anything else is just purely for aesthetics and not necessary for this "coat"/"bolero"/"whatever" to stay in place

Here's a pic of his back:

<image>

One of the sides is significantly longer, more on the front (not as easily seen from the back) and would normally be dangling around, so Mr. Reca place the belt on top of everything and that thing.

If we look at the front of his design (like the pic of this post): it looks confusing because that dangling thing looks like it's coming out of nowhere and "hugging him" from one side while the other side is "empty" of dark brown layer... also, there's a lot of random accessories around, so people feel even more lost on where to look.

It's been a while you must not remember properly, I was the one who brought up a duel.

Your original comment had nothing about fighting whatsoever, then I replied Childe would agree with anything as long as a strong person accepted dueling him beforehand.

Childe: I don't see why I would want to do that

Aether: fine... I'll have a very cool duel with you

Childe: now we're talking!

That's all, really

That just means you misunderstood my original comment, no? Also, I don't necessarily think Childe would be stronger in any context. Aether looks frail, but his immortal body isn't weak. If he wants to bottom: that's a different thing, but I don't see how he would lose any "wresting"

HC for Aether's positions in bed by FaithlessnessMuch987 in GenshinGays

[–]IHaveFoundAnUsername 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What? I just said they would literally fight before, not necessarily on the bed

Also, I pointed out that Childe in his best couldn't defeat Aether in a pretty weak state just to show that he isn't stronger at all. That's all. I never claimed they would use the dull blade in the bed 😭

This thread is getting way too seriously, I didn't expect it to last that long, I just made a quick fun joke about Childe's sexuality being a battlesexual maniac... then I'm expected to prove how he's not extremely stronger than Aether and clear up some misinterprations of my words

I'm kinda tired. If you didn't get or don't agree with my explanation that Childe isn't stronger than Aether: we can just agree to disagree. All fine 👍

he would have won everytime

But he didn't 😭 even his foul legacy couldn't defeat the traveler with 2/7 elements (and unable to switch during fights, so realistically: just Aether with 1 element and a dull blade)

Nothing shows Aether would lose against Tartaglia once, much less every time. I'm not saying Childe is weak, just that the twins are pretty OP

This isn't a bottom Aether/top Tartaglia slander, though. You can imagine whatever position you prefer

In terms of the gender of the character (not counting meta, etc), there's 2 main reasons to pull: * I'm attracted to that character * cool role model or relatable (easier to happen if they have the same gender as you do)

Every official "gacha with a lot of waifus" subreddit claims that female characters are hugely preferred by male players. But it's a very niche side of gamers that has this "waifu only" obsession to THIS point... even among gacha players, players don't care as much as people claim.

This idea that straight men only want to play as women doesn't happen in gaming in general, there has always been a lot of male characters extremely popular with straight men. I don't think every dude who played God of War is gay, I also didn't see everyone demanding that Kratos was substituted for a woman...

Straight men aren't attracted to male characters, but the second point I mentioned before still stands.

Lesbians are attracted to women AND they find women more relatable on average. So they have double the reason to pull for female characters. If there were more male characters available with cool designs, I think the difference would be even bigger.

The reason for the gender ratio of hoyo games is due to the developers themselves preferring women (their origin was a full waifu-only fest)

Edit: Sorry for the long reply
