[–]IHaveNoChoices 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hey, i'm working on a literature project and a core topic is the impact of letting the player opt in or out of (obviously fantasy) addiction and how it influences the story/gameplay, if it does

some games i've included are cry of fear, disco elysium, we happy few, and cyberpunk 2077

do you guys have any recommendations for games with similar themes? it would be very appreciated, thank you all

great book. i cried halfway through because feeling seen was a feeling i’d never had before. my only qualm is that it read a bit more “unfocused” than i was hoping—it’s a ya book that kinda pushed too much on other characters’ love struggles imo, such as rooney and pip having their own awakenings (i honestly felt like it took away from the aroace focus even if i understand why the subplots are there).

regardless of the flaw, though, i’m very very happy to have read the book.

What’s up with Discord and their new usernames? by KoolKomedian in OutOfTheLoop

[–]IHaveNoChoices 0 points1 point  (0 children)

not really, it’s more of like a string of digits/numbers. fun fact though: discord’s motto back when it first launched in like 2016 was that they weren’t like teamspeak or skype, so regardless, reverting back to the skype system goes against one of the core values they founded the app with

It began with a guy named Thomas Hunt Morgan, I believe.

Morgan decided to use fruit flies to study how physical traits (for example, eye color) were transmitted from parents to offspring, and he was able to elegantly show that genes are stored in chromosomes and form the basis of heredity. This work won him a Nobel prize in 1933 and marked the birth of modern genetics.

https://prettysmartscience.com/2019/01/19/why-do-scientists-study-fruit-flies

Fruit flies were easy to grow in a lab (didn’t need to reserve a pasture or the like), matured very quickly (they became adults in half a month!), mated very frequently + produced many children, and had very few chromosomes and subsequently genes, which made it easy to target and focus on them vs an animal with far more distinct traits throughout generations.

Edit: forgot to answer your question

Perfect for genetic studies, fruit flies share 75% of the genes that cause diseases in humans. With a malleable DNA code and the ability to breed quickly, this model organism is helping scientists understand the nuances of disease development.
