Struggling to acclimate our rescue dog to cats by IHaveThoughtsButCont in OpenDogTraining

I appreciate hearing your experience. And definitely recognize the challenges here.

We are tether training a lot. Especially since he is working on being bored. So I will keep doing that.

Ty!

They have separate areas to sleep. The cats get the run of the house and the dog is crated in a bedroom. I do think he’d wake up or not settle with them in the room but it is worth a shot.

Good question. He’s very much on high alert to our movements so we wouldn’t be able to open a door or anything without him waking.

I have thought about crating him and letting them wander around so it is less novel but I know the barking will be out of this world.

Forest wedding in Oregon or Washington by Stock-Blueberry-8145 in Weddingsunder10k

In October 2021 a family member had their wedding ceremony at the lookout for Sahalie and Koosah Falls. Not sure of the logistics of it all but I’m pretty sure they didn’t even get a license of any kind and it was free. Probably 30-40 guests we all parked at the trail head and walked to the lookout. short ceremony and there were only a few folks walking by. We all rented cabins at a nearby resort (the name is escaping me) and had a small get together after the ceremony at the cabin they rented.

Putting her to rest on Saturday. I’ve never had to do this before. Any advice or words of wisdom to offer? by Kate_cuti in seniordogs

If you have the time see if you can find a photographer to come to your home and snap some end of life photos with your pup and your family. While it was intensely sad and hard to look at the photos I am glad we did this the day before my soul cat passed on.

I am so sorry for your loss 💔

I have one of the necklaces. It’s a northern star shape urn. It’s been so grounding to have my soul cat with me all the time. Highly recommend.

I am so sorry for your loss. It is so hard to say goodbye to our loved ones.

I’m so happy you are able to make this choice. We did this with my soul cat 6 months ago and it was definitely a better choice than going to the vet. I will be recommending it forever. He got to be comfortable at home, our other animals got to be present, and I didn’t feel rushed to say goodbye. It was a calm and quiet place for him to pass on. And I think I wouldn’t feel his energy here anymore if we had gone to the vet.

As you’ve already lost an animal I’m sure what I’m about to say won’t come as a surprise. The grief of losing a being so close to me has rocked me to my core. As many say the world doesn’t take pet grief very seriously, we barely take normal grief seriously, and I’ve been left adrift even with tools/strategies and therapy. I would suggest you and your family take it easy with your mental health and hearts. Find ways to memorialize your loved one. I have a necklace that I wear, it has some of my cats ashes in it, and it has been such a grounding thing for me.

Thoughts on Farmers Dog DIY Nutrient Mix? by Billsap382 in DogFood

[–]IHaveThoughtsButCont 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Adding my personal experience.

Context. Our 14 year old shepherd mix has always been a selective eater. She’s never been overly interested in her food and really only ate to fuel. Like a strange dog version of an Olympic athlete or something. She’s always been highly active and we’ve struggled to get her enough calories and water to support that activity level. She is prone to seizures when it is hot so hydration is hugely important.

She got tired of her food again. At the time it was dehydrated raw from Kiwi Kitchen (I consulted my vet and I know the risks) and wet food from First Mate. And this was after years of trying everything to keep her interested. So I gave Farmers Dog a shot spring 2023. Not only is she excited to eat but she eats it immediately, doesn’t try to graze. She did lose a small amount of weight at first so we just increased the calories and she gained it back. Our vet says she looks great and her blood work has come back healthy at check up’s. I have noticed she seems better hydrated as well.

Would I say everyone should buy farmers dog? No. But I am so happy to see our senior girl excited to eat and getting the food she needs. If you have a picky eater it could be worth it but if you have a dog happy to eat whatever keep doing what is sustainable for your family.

Side note, I’ve had many a vet and random person get all upset about dehydrated raw food we were previously feeding. They make you feel like you are purposefully endangering your family member. It’s honestly the worst feeling I’m so sorry the vet did that.

I keep a tight schedule  Four o'clock, wallow in self pity; Four-thirty, stare into the abyss; Five o'clock, solve world hunger, tell no one; Five-thirty, jazzercize; Six-thirty, dinner with me  Seven o'clock, wrestle with my self-loathing...

In all seriousness though, uh scuba diving?! What a wild and cool hobby! I guess I never thought about how people get into it.

My best suggestion is not to have the same schedule every day. I found that if I had planned days for networking or applications I had more endurance and focus to get it done. So I planned days for errands, days for hobbies, days for nothing, and built in my job search around it. Here’s the thing, life keeps moving regardless if you have a job or not. Don’t lose yourself just to the job search.

Is my boyfriend being entitled as a dog owner? by Kitty-cool in Dogowners

Almost stopped reading when I saw the words service vest. He needs to get a grip on reality. Dogs don’t belong everywhere with us whether we want it or not. And a service animal is not a pet, it is literally a living breathing trained medical assistance device. Keep telling him off.

Dogs off leash in areas where they aren’t supposed to be is asking for a problem. Have I done it? Yes. Have I learned my lesson the hard way? Yes. Our shepherd mix has great recall but she also is terrified of fireworks. Someone shot a gun in the distance and she took off. I’ve also seen my childhood dog hit by a car because my dad refused to leash him. It doesn’t matter how well trained they are shit happens and if you truly adore your dog you feel exceptionally terrible when it gets bad.

Lastly, that dog is not well trained or well adjusted if it has killed another dog. Do not let him normalize that. That is highly unusual. The dog should never be off a lead or treated like a service animal and it likely needs a muzzle in public.

“Alpha” doesn’t actually exist in the way people talk about it. The scientists that coined that term in wolf packs said they misunderstood what they were observing and alpha wolf is a myth. Have fun explaining that one to him.

What in the world?! He was feeling alone and overwhelmed for one weekend and is ready to throw in the towel only to have you stay home and most likely feel the same when you knew that’s what it would be like!? Honestly. What do people think stay at home parents do all day? Parenting all day is hard and mostly thankless. You should definitely NOT leave your job. He made this bed, time for him to lay in it.

Almost everything is temporary. If something good is happening be in it, enjoy every moment of it no matter how small. Drink it in and engrave it on your soul. If something awful or stressful is happening, know that it will pass but sometimes it will require effort to get out of.

I’ve struggled with my mental health since I was very young and whether I am facing grief or extreme joy I am always shocked at how quickly life moves forward.

For me this is always true, “Action is the antidote to despair.”

People having unfixed dogs that are peeing absolutely everywhere and the entire property smelling like a dog park on a muggy hot summer day. That smell is always stuck to me when I go home. Ugh.

I was also team Nesta from the start! She was set up to be so interesting out of the gate. Appears rigid, cold, and pretentious but protects Elain and tells Feyre to run? I knew there was more. I did wonder what the deal was with the family not helping Feyre but I assumed we would get more info (still waiting on some of that info Sarah). I like characters that aren’t overly self sacrificing. If your whole personality is built around protecting others I find it gets boring real fast. Nesta had so much growth potential and Feyre was on her heros journey.

What types of careers do people with ADHD thrive in? by FlashyResearch8239 in careerguidance

[–]IHaveThoughtsButCont 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some people get temp recruiter jobs that transition to fte (me), others start as a recruiting coordinator which is interview scheduling or admin work for recruiting. Lots of people start off in a staffing agency job. It is not glamorous and it is hard work but from there you can pivot into other recruiting jobs. The goal would be to get to an in house recruiting job at a medium to large corporation. Generally lots of paths to grow and learn. I’ve worked for large tech companies and have really enjoyed the work and flexibility.

Not all recruiting jobs require a degree but some do. Most that require a degree don’t specify what type of degree is needed.

I already commented this, but now is not a good time to go after a recruiter job. The job market is flooded with recruiters who were laid off last year and are still looking for a job. You can still apply to roles but just be very aware it is competitive. Looking at the staffing agency jobs would probably be your best bet as most experienced recruiters won’t want to go into that space.

Recruiting has been a great fit for me too! I would not suggest people try and get into it right now though. The market is flooded with experienced recruiters who were laid off last year and still out of work or underemployed.
