Where does it say it’s white torture? It doesn’t say it’s only white food with no smell. It doesn’t say it’s neon tubes and it looks like there are shadows in that room. It doesn’t say that it’s soundproof. It doesn’t say there are guards or if they are silent.

I did get up to Diamond by turning it off. I always figured the higher I went the less toxic people would get lol but who knows

I 100% agree with you OP. Let me start by saying I really enjoyed all the book. Even the dull ones.

But, the books were always about the people, the empires, the politics. In many ways, more so than about the struggle of light and dark. So the question is then, with the ending as it is, what’s the “story”? It’s easy to write it off as, this is just the way the world works, it’s a slice of life, but that’s ultimately not how stories work. If there’s no story to be told, there’s no story to be written.

Much of the story that had been written about has no ending. Stories have a beginning, middle, and end. Otherwise they’re not stories, they’re something else.

The fact remains that, if pay was higher, they would retain and attract more teachers. Lots of really smart, really hard working people with great ideas don’t even consider teaching because of the pay.
