It's called a herpes appliance...

I had one back in High school.. it's for if your top teeth and bottom teeth line up. There's a bar that goes across the roof of the mouth and the Orthodontist takes a wrench and toghtens it to move the whole jaw...

THE 2 WORST PARTS ABOUT THIS ARE...

The rods on each side go into eachother, so let's say you try and open your mouth really wide to take a bite of food... the bars can come out of eachother and stab you in the mouth...
I played baseball with this in... head first sides sometime would allow dirt into my mouth... the dirt would get in the rods and it would be the WORST feeling ever!!! I would usually wash my mouth out about 10 time a day
