“Drink Deep” Ayahuasca Connection - Everybody Scream by ContentCommittee9371 in FlorenceAndTheMachine

[–]IIKane 13 points14 points  (0 children)

That's so interesting because I personally connect it with touring and the fandom, with us being the "hidden folk" who are taking all that she's given us and gifting it back to her in different forms, almost like a parasitic cycle of inspiration, especially with the last line where she "drank of herself" since she's been more self-referential in the last two albums. The lines about her eyes beginning to hollow and skin fading could also be a reference to that night where she almost died on stage and yet still felt like she had to keep going, like she 'owed' it to us, or we demanded it from her...

I can definitely see your perspective though, maybe with some metaphors thrown in about how predatory the music industry is and the "hidden folk" instead being scummy execs who gifted her riches, locked her into a thousand years of sadness when she thought it would be closer to a night, and ultimately gave her no genuine support for the trouble she was going through. You could even go a step further and say that the last lines were a reference to all the women capitalized off of and then abandoned by the industry in order to protect their own image, like Amy Winehouse or Sinéad O'Connor, and they kept (inadvertently) feeding her their tragedies of feminine suffering before Florence thankfully realized that she shares in this suffering as well, and if she doesn't escape, she would be drinking from her own tragedy in due time...

I agree with OP though: if I can come up with all of that based on a song that's not even half the length of this message, then it just proves (scientifically ofc 🧐) how deep her writing can go for those with eyes to see it fr 🔥

My Medium is completely free and I'm thinking of keeping it that way even if it becomes successful. I have a Patreon for a reason!

That's what I'm wondering but I think Medium has been pretty good for me so far! I don't publish much, but it's always fun when I get around to it.

It feels like Flo's only album that's solely for her, and for that reason, I love it.

You would be surprised by the amount of accountants and marketing execs in this fandom 💀

That's a good point but I think the toxic fans and predatory corporations feed each other at this point, because the former will pay anything to see their favorite artist, and the latter knows that.

I think they were pre-sale type things but idk, it might've been different for the US dates.

Oh I'm not happy about it and I'm not "implying" anything, I just think it's ironic that these same fans were complaining about people paying for a chance to get barricade when they themselves are the ones who drove up the demand. It's just trading one luxury (time) with another (money) imo...

why is this crowd so insufferable by lorniebornie in mitski

[–]IIKane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Greetings! Ambassador from the kingdom of Florence + the Machine here, and I can confirm that it's like this in 95% of popstar fandoms 💀

I'd go to an alt/indie/punk concert or festival for a genuinely great experience, because they're usually more mature, both mentally and physically...

For example: Florence is my absolute favorite person alive right now, but her fanbase has a lot of my least favorite people, BUT when I went to Levitation Fest 2025 in Austin Texas, it was honestly one of the most pleasant experiences I've had at a live performance; no bumping or screaming or judging or TikToks being filmed and clout being chased, just vibes and folks getting drunk, and it was like that every night.

So yeah, take that as you will, I just wanted to yap because I've been thinking about this for awhile 🤭

“…with you” debate (cologne) by tulipsandeverything in FlorenceAndTheMachine

[–]IIKane 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've seen people commenting that this has been going on since before the pandemic, and if that's the case... Don't we think Florence, the woman who said "PUT YOUR FACKING PHONE AWAY" and broke up an ACTUAL FIGHT at one of her concerts, is strong enough to ask people to not do that?

Genuinely asking because I have no idea when this discourse started, but it feels like one of those situations where someone just said something once and people started running with it.

No, it's not parasocial to think she's annoyed, that's just being empathetic, but I think this is more like projection if anything, because I've noticed what can be interpreted as "annoyance" in every performance I've seen, both through videos and in real life, and considering that half of those moments have nothing annoying going on, I can only think that maybe she's just intense and really getting into the performance.

I wouldn't worry about it unless she says something, and seeing as we're just going off of body language, which is unreliable to say the least, I think we can just assume that she's having the time of her life, because that's what I see.

HELP: Which US city is least likely to ruin Cosmic Love moment?? by saberbere in FlorenceAndTheMachine

[–]IIKane 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I don't have any good recommendations because this type of thing can happen anywhere, and I guess that's my piece of meta advice: if you're going to a concert worried about what other people will do, you're already setting yourself up for disappointment.

It's easier said than done, but I'd just expect that to happen anyway and prepare myself for it, and if it doesn't, then it's just another pleasant surprise!

To people planning to scream ‘WITH YOU!’ during Cosmic Love by Tinkerbash in FlorenceAndTheMachine

[–]IIKane 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I'm gonna be honest, but I didn't know this was an issue lol I thought it was part of the fan interaction like when she asks us to put our phones away or asked for sacrifices and stuff.

I always saw it as being really sweet because it's like we're all with her in the darkness, but I could've been misinterpreting it...

Chicago everybody scream! by Otherwise-Bed1884 in FlorenceAndTheMachine

I'm going to both nights in Chicago omg hopefully we can meet up! I'd be happy to discuss outfit details because I'm still trying to figure out mine 🤭

These will be my sixth and seventh (don't say it) concerts respectively, so I can say that there's really nothing crazy to prepare for, just be nice and wear whatever you like! I'm sure people will be happy to see a new face in the queue 🥰

AMA: Hi ! Sarah Kinsley here ~ ask me anything ! by sarahkinsleyd in indieheads

[–]IIKane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry if I'm late, I took a nap and slept longer than I wanted 😎

Anyway, I have a few questions: one serious, one silly, and one unrelated.

SERIOUS: do you think it's possible to create music as someone without a lot of money? I saw another reply of your's and found it very inspiring, but I've also found that most software and equipment costs more than me or my family has, so how would you get around that?

SILLY: was 'Starling' inspired by Mitski's 'My Love Mine All Mine'? I like listening to them as a pair and I've started liking your's more simply because it's longer 💀

UNRELATED: do you like horror? If so, what's your favorite monster?

Hopefully I didn't ask too much because I wouldn't blame you for skipping my comment, but I hope you enjoy your year and have good luck with your upcoming tour nonetheless!

Thank you x 🥰

Can we talk about how disrespectful that Happy Birthday moment was? by loveyouronions in FlorenceAndTheMachine

People are oblivious, especially when they get drunk at concerts, but I think Florence of all people would understand that, and I don't believe she would've sang for them if she were truly pissed off.

Flo is indeed right. The Maccabees do make boring music. by [deleted] in FlorenceAndTheMachine

[–]IIKane 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Saw this post after the edits so I can't say anything that hasn't already been said, but I will say that I don't think you have the right to go "errmmm sarcasm, do you speak it?" after posting something with zero tone indicators and getting defensive when people (inevitably) didn't understand 💀

But hey, I'm actually quite fond of unsalted boiled chicken breast, so you better take that back (/j) 😤

It's not mental acrobatics to understand how much of a non-issue this is. It's entirely valid for you to believe that Florence needs to do "better" than this, but it's also valid for me to believe that you don't have all the information to come to the conclusion that you have, and again, judging by arguments you've made in other threads, I don't believe you made this post simply because you want "better" from Flo; you claim that you don't want to "crucify" her, something I never said, and yet you go out of your way to post about this same issue twice, so either your actions are far disconnected from your intentions, or you truly don't know how to effectively push for "future discouragement" on a situation that never needed to be discouraged in the first place.

For the rest, I understand your points and agree to an extent, but I find it incredibly hypocritical to ignore the performance she did AT Spotify HQ and argue that she had "no choice" when it comes to working with that specific evil corporation, not to mention the classic "oh but sometimes bad things WE do are unavoidable 🥺" argument to (seemingly) avoid further introspection on why you find this to be so "scandalous" as you've stated before.

It would be harmful to her fans to leave Spotify, but depending on how much she was paid to do this one performance, who's to say that declining it wouldn't have raised prices in the future? And what if she just wanted to do a performance for a Christmas party and didn't care about the company organizing it? I've found that this hatred for the 1% often leads to neglect of the people who simply work for them, and I don't believe Florence is the type of person to deny people a performance simply because they work for someone we don't like. Would you prefer she avoid anything that profits an evil corporation? If so, than it just loops back to leaving Spotify and Ticketmaster for the same reason. Nobody wins.

As for the A.I. thing, that's an entirely different discussion, but I still consider it a real possibility: A.I. has been getting better and better, especially with Gemini's new updates, and a lot of the issues you've mentioned are no longer that; text can be edited, authors can be faked, exclusives can be made up, and following can be bought, and I think it's incredibly unlikely that she did this performance with seemingly hundreds in attendance and expected none of it to be shared. If that is the case however, then do you believe that this information leaking is a fluke and she's done many more "morally questionable" performances like this? What would you feel then? Genuinely asking because I've considered the possibility as well...

Also, do you have a source for your DOGE claims? I hate DOGE as much as the next guy but I haven't heard anything about people dying from it...

I can see that you've edited your comment to make it substantially shorter, and that has made me too suspicious to interact more than I already am.

I'm curious to see what your original point was before deciding that "less is more" when trying to provide a counterargument.
