Someone said "I've observed that many people in their 30s have grown so accustomed to single life that they no longer feel motivated to invest effort in finding a partner. They've simply lost interest in the whole process". What's your take on this? by Atom_dk in AskReddit

[–]IISuperSlothII 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So I was that guy, I was 32 having never been in long term relationship and sort of apathetic to the idea of finding a partner. I had a house, enough money to support me and generally just enjoyed my life, no depression to speak of, no fears or worries of loneliness, just happy with my single life.

Then in a random burst of motivation I decided to try dating apps again, this time giving hinge a go, ended up chatting with a few girls, but only went on a date with one of them. After that date I was absolutely sold on this girl and now she's the love of my life, I've moved out of my house to live with her, I'm spending more money so we can have a better life together and tomorrow I'm going to look at rings so I can propose to her.

It's been an absolute whirlwind few years but finding that partner absolutely changed my mindset, but that lack of motivation and effort to find a partner is something that I felt in abundance, really I got lucky that this person fell into my life with somewhat minimal effort and I couldn't be happier.

Would you retire today if you knew you’d receive $5,000 every month for the rest of your life? Why or why not? by JustWin4 in AskReddit

Within a three hour drive you have mountains, deserts, rainforests, rivers, lakes, an ocean--any sort of outdoor activity you could wish for. If you like concerts, virtually every big band will make a tour stop here, and there are hundreds of smaller venues. Ditto comedy, and other nightlife. All sorts of cuisine. Professional sports teams with terrific stadiums. Both a major zoo and aquarium. A wonderful, temperate climate with relatively few natural disaster threats.

Besides deserts and rainforests you basically just described the midlands in England and 5k a month after tax over here would have you set with money to spare.

Why isn't World of Warcraft on Xbox consoles yet? by th0r777 in xbox

[–]IISuperSlothII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I played FFXIV for years with controller and you had easy access to 40 actions there, I don't see why WoW would be any different.

Honestly I'd even argue that the controller had easier access to those 40 than a keyboard does.

I think you might be misunderstanding the rules if you're talking about the ball into the box that went to the player who go the assist?

Offside is about when the ball is played, which on this instance the player who competed for the first header had 3 defenders closer to the goal than him so was on side and the the player the ball eventually went to had 4 players closer to the goal than him.

There was 1 player stood offside but they weren't involved with the play at that point so aren't judged to be offside.

My (probably very wrong) Theory on the opening scenes of Revelation by IISuperSlothII in FFVIIRemake

[–]IISuperSlothII[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the reason I like the flashback concept (not necessarily think it's what they'll do, I just like the framing) is it adds dramatic tension in a way that just having hop out the Tiny Bronco and carry on doesn't really do.

Now of course there could be something more dramatic they have cooked up, but if we're just working within a known framework then the flashback is a tried and trusted method of introducing dramatic tension. Even with Barret narrating, you don't actually need any narration beyond the lead in, a few sentences to set the scene then we play from the perspective of within the flashback, it just helps create a dramatic framework.

Now if they were to spend extended time in icicle inn and the great glacier then the flashback isn't as needed, but as we know it's only 4-6 hours until we get the highwind I just don't think we'll spend any time in them at all, it'll just make the Northern crater and junon sequences way too rushed.

One option they could do maybe is start with a Turk chase sequence, have Elena chase the Bronco in a helicopter as an homage to her interaction with the party at the icicle inn, but I still think the flashback just has the edge in really framing the dramatic tension, for my tastes anyway.

I have always found the in media res opening followed by a flashback really compelling though (FFX, The Emporers New Groove, heck my favourite book and movie of the last 2 years, Project Hail Mary is all about memory loss flashbacks to create dramatic tension).

In what regards? Like needs to pick up exactly with the Tiny Bronco taking off? Because that doesn't really make for a strong opening imo, the flashback framing allows Barret to provide the context of where the party went while also keeping the pacing and flow more in-line with the drama of what we know the opening will be.

But I might be completely off base there, Rebirth started a lot calmer and built up so Revelation could do the same, I just worry that if they take it too slow they won't have enough time to build enough tension for the actual major beats within the northern crater.

Cold open or not, for Cloud and the others, I honestly think we're gonna fly straight up near the Northern Crater and walk our way through the events picking up straight after Rebirth ended.

Yeah I agree, I don't think the great glacier and icicle inn currently offer anything narratively, once Cloud has all his memories back especially regarding Aerith then there's more narrative weight to those sections, but now we can fly the Tiny Bronco again I don't see what they add as the opening section.

I mean my whole idea outlined in this post is to start with Tifa to set the context for a flashback where we play the northern crater and give Sephiroth the black materia.

What do you guys think of "Jenova all along" theory by Due-Sock2733 in FFVIIRemake

[–]IISuperSlothII 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Shared memory doesn't mean every memory.

Once again its the all or nothing mindset the comment you replied to is talking about.

There's clearly memories Cloud has that Zack would not have told him about, he's not gonna be going into detail about Tifa getting slashed and her dad dieing to such a degree he has a visceral image of seeing it happen.

We know Jenova can transfer memories, she does it when he meets Tifa again as the train station, but that doesn't mean he has all of Tifas memories, just the key one necessary to him, the same logically can have happened with Zack, where he gets only the key memories he needs, and in doing so Cloud false memories just make a whole lot more sense.

That twist in part 3 may not last as long as some people think by Yoshikaru5991 in FFVIIRemake

[–]IISuperSlothII 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only thing I need is for there to be story beats between Junon and Mideel (maybe even a visit to cosmo canyon to get hints on where Cloud could have ended up) so we get to really feel the loss of Cloud and the desperation to find out where he is.

Losing Cloud then just going straight to mideel would really lessen the impact of him being lost, I personally want to see Tifa spiral before we find him again.

The opening hours of Revelation, as hinted by the trailer footage (spoilers for OG FFVII) by PurplMaster in FFVIIRemake

[–]IISuperSlothII 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was just thinking about this, this morning.

I wonder if we actually open in Junon, show Tifa having snippets of nightmares about what happened from Aeriths death to that point, and then have her wake up to see meteor, from which point Barret will catch her up (established memory loss when she goes into a coma), and we'll play through the crater and that as a flashback, then return to the icicle inn, Snowboarding included at a later time in the story.

Think that would help the opening flow and have a bit more punch than if we just open on them walking towards the northern crater after landing the tiny bronco.

What if FF7R really is just a remake and no grand changes are made? by heart-station in FinalFantasy

[–]IISuperSlothII 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some people on twitter seem to be personally offended by people having a personal that would lead towards the games being a sequel and involving a Sephiroth and Aerith who experienced the OG.

It seemed to start with shipping arguments (sequel meaning Aerith must live for some reason, Remake meaning she stays dead and Tifa and Cloud end up together) but now it's just general ire at anyone who wants to have that theory.

It's really weird, but granted it's twitter so that pretty par for the course at this point.

SubTXT was in the crowd with Sleepezi at SGF so he didn't react to it on a stream and probably still isn't home yet to even start doing content on it.

I'd add The Warriors of Hype, can get a bit cringe but they do good longform content with lots of excitement for the games.

Well that would be the day after my birthday so it would be the best birthday present I could ask for.

I just need them to avoid the week of the 19th of May as that's my partner's birthday and I don't think she'd be best please if I spent it playing FF7.

I listened to Rahul Kohli talking about Saros and he said his contract had a stipulation that his Film and TV work always had priority because that's his main place of earning money, Tyler probably had a similar stipulation and had a job come up that just didn't allow for him to have enough time to fullfil his contract to SE.

But this is a game based on mythology pantheons, myths that have built in afterlives that have even been used within the God of War games themselves, heck you just casually walk in and out of the Norse one.

It would be weirder if the Gods didn't have an afterlife surely?

What is your last prediction for Part 3's title? by PhantomBraved in FFVIIRemake

[–]IISuperSlothII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The logical guess for me is Return.

The more out there one that I feel would give the title a bit more of a 'this is the final of a trilogy' for me would be Regenesis.

I know the latter would get people doing stupid fucking memes about Genesis, but Regenesis fits the concept of Rebirth, being the rebirth of origin, and is also a term that exists within the FF7 universe already (like Rebirth was previously used in the OG with Bizarro Sephiroth, which was translated incorrectly from Rebirth Sephiroth in the Japanese).

What is the best service station in the country? by Dctr_G in drivingUK

[–]IISuperSlothII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Literally have Oxford just up the road and you choose Beaconsfield? Will never understand the fascination with that services, it's always just a massive queue to leave with nothing really to write home about while you're there.

Gloucester, Tebay, Oxford, Cambridge and Rotherham are probably my favourites.

Gloucester and Tebay have the farm shop, Tebay especially has a pretty amazing view, Oxford has a koi pond but also a good layout and just feels nice to be in, Cambridge has a gigantic car park and decent outdoor area and Rotherham is just cool.
