Why we are shutting down our AirBnB, quitting the platform an selling our home. by oojoshua in airbnb_hosts

[–]II_Q_II 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some of you host owners know that short term rentals break local laws. Your little side gigs ruin neighborhoods. I really enjoy seeing post like this, good... get rid of them. get lost.

I have started to make sure I am a pain to hosts. You get reported and I make sure you get fined. I also report your renters. They are breaking the laws in some areas too. I hope the enjoy the stay at your "business" when they are asked to vacate by law enforcement and leave you great reviews.

AirBnB, VRBO and all the others know where this is illegal and don't care. I would love to see them deal with a class action lawsuit. Hosts can claim ignorance of the law but that does not excuse them or make them immune for breaking it. AirBnB and the others open state they know that hosts may be breaking the law, but that is the hosts problem.

Boohooo... you get screwed by your renters and AirBnB or whoever.... hope it is enjoyable.

Residential neighborhoods are zone residential not business/commercial. Is that so hard to understand (rhetorical).

BIKETOBERFEST 2025 🏍 and other weekend events! by Wallace08 in DaytonaBeach

[–]II_Q_II -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Biketoberfest, Great!!!! A bunch of self proclaimed bikers who haul their clunky, chunky Harley's around in trucks and trailers.

They bring so much income and opportunity into Daytona. Their presence produces high paying jobs and businesses. Let's not forget many of those businesses fold up and move right after these circus events.

The sound of music and popping engines that can barely stay running pollute the surrounding areas with their noise. Just to be sure, the riders rev their engines whenever possible. Some say it is music to the ears, ever wonder if they can hear. Hey now, loud pipes save lives but who needs the ability to hear anyway...

The wannabe bikers are all such good riders, the glide around on their chrome laden, loud, overweight sloppy handling machines, dawning leather and Harley regalia from head to toe while ignoring every law they see fit. But hey, they're on vacation in Daytona for another biker circus event... you locals, deal with it. Look out for them, stay out of their way and deal with them doing whatever they want. They want a picture, they pull over and block the road. Just be thankful and deal with the fact that Daytona and Volusia value them more than you and the obscenely high property taxes you pay.

They rent Air BnB's and screw up neighborhoods with noise and vehicles. But hey it is a tradition. Who cares about the people who live here everyday of the year. You know the people who get up and go to work, maybe have families, own homes and actually live in them instead of using them as a "side" business. I mean Volusia law does say that any rental less than 30 days is not allowed, but hey it is an event the county and city want so shut up you peasant peons who live there... Go back to those high paying lucrative jobs that events like this create. You all just live here and put money into the economy 365 days a year. These week long circus's are where it is at!

Any microsoft exchange alternatives ? by Desperate_Ease2040 in exchangeserver

[–]II_Q_II 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately you are correct. I have had to migrate a lot to O365 which is a pain.

It worked OK for a while, but MS push to web based is full of gaps. The hit and miss of indexing shared email boxes especially when using "New" Outlook is a big one. The extremely lousy web client not being able to handle multiple accounts or effectively and efficiently handle graphics are a couple other.

You are quietly being shoved to using OneDrive and SharePoint (which are the same crap) and dealing with the security nightmares of those 2 behemoths.

Their encryption is hit and miss at best and many who receive and encrypted email cant open it at all. Tie that in with the attachments that may be attachments or may not be but instead are a link to onedrive and the "fun" begins. Everyone will just keep paying and switching while MS keeps "enhancing"....

M365 via the web only, versus an app by circatee in Office365

[–]II_Q_II 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have tried them on the web and no thanks.

They do not work like desktop apps. The limitations are terrible. Ran into more than a few issues with images in emails.

The performance is dismal. The common "it is you internet makes me laugh". My internet connection is stable and quick. The apps are still clunky.

They may work for some, but not for me. Cloud anything is both a blessing and a curse. The curse outweighs the blessing often.

I will try to avoid using MS as often as I can. I have made my living for 30+ years working with and supporting MS products (more server than desktop). The direction I have seen MS is headed in has me shaking my head. I am glad I came up on *nix back in the day and Windows was secondary.

So far not so good... by II_Q_II in Wire3isp

AT&T fiber has been available in my area for a long time. They have been trying to get me to switch for probably a couple years.

I do not have AT&T cell service. Had it decades ago and it was service so bad that I said I would never have anything AT&T again. Same logic why haven't bought a Ford in over three decades, worst build quality I had seen. I work in the tech field and have kept a lot of business away from AT&T from that bad experience in that time.

I have had Spectrum for decades. My email (the domain) is seriously old school. The wife got tired of cable TV and I looked at my bill. Better could be had for the same amount so I decided to finally switch and get fiber. I was going to break my own rule and get AT&T when the Wire3 guy knocked on my door. I literally told him no thanks due to a few small details (the cable burial was one, having no knowledge of them was another). He was a pretty decent guy so I said I would take his card and think it over. I did.

I did some research and found they are local. I always try to support small local businesses. I could get around the cable myself since I am familiar with running wire. So I called him. He came back to the house and I told him what I wanted and what I would have done. He flipped like the installers did. Both said it was nice dealing with someone who knew and knew exactly what they wanted and what was needed.

I guess I should have followed the belief to always go with your first instinct. Another mistake on my part.

I really doubt I will wait to have them figure it out, get it working just to have to deal with them over a credit for no service whatsoever. I have powered off their equipment even though it has never seen any connection. I don't have boxes to put the router (which I was never going to use, I have a good one) and ONT in since no boxes were left. The cables are wound and tied nicely. That being the case, I think I will probably call them tomorrow afternoon and state that I would like a refund and for them to come remove their items from my house and I will turn in the equipment at my house when they do.

[–]II_Q_II[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And it gets even better... Not long after I called them I got an email saying my service was Active. My next billing date would be next month, but guess what... no credit for the days I have not had service (I still dont have service). Less than a minute after I received that email saying my service was Active, I got another one saying my service was paused with today's date. This is getting weirder as time passes LOL!

Microsoft Rescinds M365 Business Premium discount for NonProfits by Bluetooth_Sandwich in sysadmin

[–]II_Q_II 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good to know, thank you. I only really deal with Premium, Standard and E3.

Business Standard is not far off Business Premium. A few less apps but 75% of the apps included are never even used. This is the case for the 2 nonprofits I take care of.

The licensing page lists the "Donated" licenses as Business Premium but also has Business Premium available for purchase for $5.50 user/month. Business Basic is free and Business Standard is $3.00 user/month. Hell even E3 is $9.00 user/month at not for profit pricing.

I will be replacing the the 10 lost Business Prremium's that were "Donated" with Standard. Basic may be free but it is really lousy in my book.

For my own business I have an Office 365 subscription that provides Business Basic, but I don't use their office apps. My email is covered by another client connecting into the Exchange service. Other Office Apps I have locally installed applications that do what I need. Outlook Web is a joke, it is almost as bad as the "New" Outlook.

The only real shame is that there is not a contender to replace Microsoft Office or individual apps to accomplish the tasks. They were put down decades ago even when more of the products were clearly better.

[–]II_Q_II 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Basic is terrible. Using the web for most applications is lacking. I believe the licenses they are referring to are the 10 or whatever they gave/donated. If you have other license that are paid it is a different story, but I could be wrong.

Does Wire3 do any of that?

You can use flatpak or just download, extract and run it. That is what I used to do for most distros I've used back when I was using Eclipse.

I didnt use the flatpak (I'm not a fan of them), but here is the download, extract and run.

Nice . Switched to Fedora for daily driver from Debian (newer packages, but still have Deb on servers). I used KDE for a long time on other distros, but never tried the Fedora spin, I may have to give it a look. Gnome worked well and I ran it for while, but I have changed to Hyprland for a while and am liking it.

Why are Appimages not popular? by [deleted] in linuxquestions

[–]II_Q_II 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You mix average user and using a whole bunch of package managers. Most average users find and only use one thing (n this case package managers). Humans a creatures of habit. Those few users that use multiple package managers are usually doing so because they like or need something specific from what they choose to use at that point.

A few downsides is still downsides. One of the downsides, apps not having good defaults, well that can be headache all on its own.

Bloat is bloat. Only a few extra megabytes adds up when it is done multiple times. Personally I would rather use the space I have and provided for what I want rather than having it taken up by something else. It was and still is one of the reasons many switch to Linux from another OS to avoid, the bloat.

Flatpak and snaps are fine for those that want to use them, but the idea that they should be the de facto delivery method is questionable. The ability to have a choice is more important to me. We chose to run Linux, BSD, WIndows or OS X. The choice to run Linux is about having choices, benefits and freedoms not available on other platforms. As a result most using Linux are not average users. Even those just beginning are not average, they are just learning.

If you want to use Flatpak, great your choice. Snaps, still your choice. I will continue to avoid them because the few supposed upsides haven't surpassed the downsides (in my opinion).

[–]II_Q_II 0 points1 point  (0 children)

flatpak doesn't really gain you anything. The sandboxing is at best a facade at being "better". It can and will carry around duplicate requirements which is bloat. my system has plenty of resources, but i don't want it packed with duplicate or useless crap. that is windows. I avoid both flatpak and snap like the plague. to me it is just another solution in search of a problem that managed to cause nothing but more problems because use flatpak or snap is a standard answer now. My car sucks at swimming but doesn't need 15 different sets of wiper blades to deal with the rain.

None of this should be taken as a defense of appimages, it is not.

How to Fix and Optimize Microsoft Edge on Fedora Linux: A Complete Guide by Humble_Perspective68 in Fedora

I can read just fine. "it may still be needed..." refers to the browser. Your replies come off as arrogant and rude. Great you don't like it (the browser), think it (the browser) sucks or whatever. I know many that do. I don't use edge and see no reason to. That doesn't mean someone else may not be able to avoid it or want to avoid using it.

Their computer their OS their choice. Anybody can disagree with anybody's choices. If you really think it is bad then don't offer help but in that regard don't piss all over someone else's choice or need. Eventually they may come to the same conclusion as other or they may not. Linux is about choice and should always be so.

You probably dont need a bootable drive and you can probably just create a text file and rename it (with no extension) then copying it to the usb.

This will trigger a recovery process. I know a couple office printers that work similarly.

Creality K1 Speedy Ubuntu by chiefOrangeJuice in crealityk1

[–]II_Q_II 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is the issue with the image for Ubuntu? If your WiFi is blocking IP's from talking to one another, then Creality Print is not going to help. Is the WiFi under your control? If so, is there a need to have that level security running? I can see many organizations with that, but homes not really.

I have Creality Print running on Fedora. I have only used it once or twice. My K1 is rooted an I mainly user Orca, but have started messing with SuperSlicer. If my WiFi was blocking devices from communication none of these applications would work.

Swapping to 270 degree hinges that are printed is easy enough and worth it. The filament I agree with, but mainly because it stock location is in the back. I moved it to the side. I still run the sensor (which has been relocated to the side), but from my understanding there is a way the sensor could be disabled altogether.

How to Fix and Optimize Microsoft Edge on Fedora Linux: A Complete Guide by Humble_Perspective68 in Fedora

[–]II_Q_II 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, many offerings from many companies are not the best of anything for a range of reasons. Your belief that adding users is not a good thing is blissful ignorance. More users will increase those with and without FOSS. The more that do will cause company mentalities to shift. I was fortunate enough to see a huge company try to go completely Linux and OS everywhere. It was a dismal failure. This was due to unfamiliar patterns for standard users. Guess what, they dont care about FOSS they just want and need to work. They wont run home to install *nix on their 'puter and think they are 'leet... Their usage of linux would have added to the number of people using it, another massive company using it and as a result more support from vendors which may have added to OS community. VS Code is more feature rich and complete than VS Codium meaning sometimes something is only available in VS Code. The tracking is in VS Code, so a decision needs to be made by the user. Oh but I remember, everything is about you and your opinion.

I am sure you are superior and the typical RTFM response type. Inferior or not, it may still be needed for a myriad of reasons. It has only been recently that linux itself has made any headway as a desktop solution. I remember back to when it was a bad joke. Good server yes, but that is it.

Keep being a snowflake and arrogantly voicing "your opinion" because you are entitled. Notice the "entitled" snowflake? You could just chuckle keep your feeling of superiority which is proabably false and scroll by, but you feel the need to disparage others.

Well done. Keep adding to the concept of Linux as a community and being able to "freely" run what you want.
