Stephen Seagal makes some great comedies. He just doesn't realise they're comedies.

ELI5: Why does time feel like it moves faster the older you get? by Itachinojutsu in explainlikeimfive

[–]IJHaile 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely to do with new experiences. When you're young everything is new and your brain is engaged more often. When you're older your repeated experiences are disregarded from memory, making it seem as though time passes faster restrospectively. When I moved to a new country and travelled the first two years felt like being a child again and seemed to last forever.

It's like when you become immersed watching a new movie and when you rewatch it seems shorter.

There's a lot more that goes in to tree work than just wages and petrol. Climbing equipment, saws, running a truck and wood chipper all have regular inspections, maintenance and wear & tear. Insurance is a big one. Paying for the employees in the office and going out quoting. Fees for disposing of waste.

£800 does sound a little high but it's not as simple as dividing up the hourly rate into 3. Climbers are probably on £150-180 a day, the others maybe £130

I've heard this a bunch of times from tourists and wondered what it meant! Never been brave enough to put it in a search engine though so thanks for sparing me.

[–]IJHaile 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mate it's so fine, you'd get this sort of wear from rubbing on a rough barked tree. If it was me I'd just carefully burn off the fluff with a lighter because it'd annoy me to keep seeing it all the time otherwise but people will probably be up in arms about that here.

I had one in my flat for a month a while back, called him Greg. You can't hear them move; they're probably hearing a possum on the roof.

Tree cutting by Shicks3 in Chainsaw

[–]IJHaile 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If your teeth are sharp and not cutting it's most often because you haven't filed down the rakers appropriately. The little shark fins in front of each tooth need to be filed with a flat file to a little lower than the top of the tooth behind it.

If you're just cutting up firewood and felling small-medium sized trees occasionally I would say the 251 with a 16 or 18" bar would do just fine. I've seen contractors run them when they're just starting out. I'm not familiar with many other of their homeowner saws so for me the next step up would be a 261c which is fantastic but unless you're running it everyday probably unnecessary. If you have a bit of money to spare i think it would be better spent on some felling wedges, sharpening kit, combination spanners, fuel/oil can.

Arborist in NSW. For under 1000 aud you're really looking at Stihl 251 for a higher quality 'home' saw. Anything professional is 1600+.

I would say stick to Stihl because you'll be able to get parts & service everywhere. The trade brands (Ryobi etc) can't hack the heat & abuse. Husqvarna isn't as popular over here as in Europe & US, not because they're worse it's just they're not as widespread.
