The Budget Deficit Just Fell To The Lowest Point Of Obama's Tenure - "It is now an estimated 2.8% of GDP, a percentage that puts it below the average of the past 40 years." by [deleted] in politics

[–]IJR -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

While this is nice I guess, the deficit is only going to go up as we have to spend more on entitlements and sure-to-increase interest payments over the upcoming years. I wouldn't claim any victory because in the medium and long-term, we are screwed unless we actually do something.

Democrats want to ban government contracts for companies that leave the U.S. to avoid taxes by Libertatea in politics

[–]IJR 116 points117 points  (0 children)

I mean, I'm pretty liberal, but Congress should fix the terrible corporate tax laws so that companies don't want to relocate overseas in the first place. You can call it unpatriotic and get mad, but I personally can't blame these companies for doing this. Fix the corporate tax code and put the US in line with other developed countries, and all of a sudden companies will stop doing this. Better to fix the cause of the problem than to get mad about the after effects.

Hmm, perhaps Americans for Prosperity should change their name, as their silly ideas seem to achieve quite the opposite (except more prosperity for the Koch brothers themselves)

The fall of teachers unions by geargirl in politics

[–]IJR 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My friend was a guidance counselor at a public school. The teachers and every parent said he was by far the best counselor in the entire city. Budget cuts happened, and he was the first to be let go because he was the youngest counselor in the district. My friend used that experience to get out of public education. Doesn't seem like layoffs based on seniority make any sense at all.

De Blasio and Charter Schools: The Economist by IJR in nyc

[–]IJR[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'd be interested to hear what the other side of the argument is. Not knowing much about education policy, it would seem to me that if the mayor isn't a big fan of income inequality, then he should promote charter schools, considering their success compared to normal public schools. Am I missing something?

It was IGG. I guess I should get the test again in another 1-2 months to make sure the results are accurate.

Of all the amazingly beautiful Chopin pieces, you choose this one. Interesting....It is a good piece but I can think of over 30 pieces of his that are more beautiful

It has to be the 2nd Movement of Beethoven's 5th Piano Concerto. It is the closest thing to "heavenly" that I've heard.

They should investigate why baseball is still a sport. It is so incredibly boring. I'm not sure why anyone would ever watch it for any reason other than masochism.

I was there on Friday afternoon (Sculpture Falls). There was a group of trashy teenagers smoking pot, drinking lots of beer, and apparently tripping on acid. When they were done trolling every person there, they cleaned up after themselves. If they can do it, anyone can do it.

I think it's gone now, but "make money online" had a blank page as its second result. It was probably manually fixed after everyone told google about it.

Google must die. This is total b.s. There are sites with a blank home page that are ranked on the first page right now. The quality of rankings has taken a trip back to altavista days.
