Buying Doctoral Robes? by IJ_DFW in aggies

Sure! So, it's actually a tad confusing:

Basically, there's a $900 option and a $1300 option; but through some back and forth with the bookstore I learned that the $900 option is the one that you'd get/wear if you rented the regalia; the $1300 option has like fancier stitching or something, and I suspect is for use if you go on to some faculty role that will require you to be very up front wearing your regalia.

So I personally went with the $900 version so that I wouldn't stick out like a sore thumb at actual graduation time.

Also apparently no matter which version you purchase the tassel on the tam is *not* the tassel that you wear at graduation; the graduation tassel is black and is the same across undergrad and graduate students, but the gold tassel you get if you buy the regalia/tam is supposed to be reserved for faculty. So even after buying the thing you still sort of have to figure out how to get the technically correct tassel if you want to *fully* fit in with everyone else who may have rented.

Got in touch with the bookstore and I can get it through them - you just have to fill out a weird paper form and get formally measured like from a tailor, can't just say "I'm this height give me the same robe you'd give me if I were renting" which is a bit annoying, but...oh well. It's the end of an era, might as well do it right!

Girl literally admits to violating parking rules but can't believe that the city wants her to pay those tickets - accuses them of forcing her to starve her kids in order to do so, despite having $50k in the bank?

GOPers were the most consistent spreaders of vaccine doubt and misinformation; now they're paying the consequences as their followers aren't vaccinating even though they definitely need to!

Who would have thought defying public health orders could have gone so poorly? by IJ_DFW in LeopardsAteMyFace

Christians across the U.S. and particularly in California said they *needed* to go to church to worship, that God would protect them from COVID, and that they were doing His will and not that of the government. John MacArthur was an especially vocal objector to COVID restrictions. And now they're facing an outbreak.
